Yea it’s still here. Unsure if it’s working. The thermostat is definitely not.

Provided it's stuck open, which it will be, then an inline thermostat in the top hose is the solution. A Renault 5 item used to be the choice but now DMGRS sell them for about £10 to £15.

All 3 of my diesels had this and its an easy job, if a little time consuming to shove the thermostat down the top hose. Submerging the hose in hot water as you work it down is what I did .

Replacing the actual thermostat is a pig of a job and replacements rarely last.

  • HMC changed the title to HMC motors- NEW-reheated Indian takeaway

This was a bit spontaneous as it cropped up locally for not a lot of money about 3 hours ago. 12 months MOT and showing 25k - which may or may not be genuine.

Ive wanted to try one just to fill in exactly how dire they are. Oddly it sounds a bit like a pug 205/106 though the gears. The seats are HARD and the Steering is feel free and oddly light. It feels quite fast for what it is and needless to say it’s quite endearly sub par and I like it!

The moody night shots happened as I’ve just returned from collecting it.

Iirc these have a 80-odd bhp engine and weigh not much more than a crisp packet thanks to dire crash protection, so yeah, they go well! Looks ace, for what it is.

That's the nicest one I've seen... colour suits it. I saw keef Adams was selling his so when i saw this thread I presumed you'd bought that!

As Local shopping trollies these are absolutely fine, they were just overpriced for what they were. Missed opportunities are what MG Rover excelled at so its no surprise really.

did Tata ever sell their version over here????

no, Tata only sold the Loadbeta and Safari here, and nothing since. The Indica never made it to our shores.

edit: and the presumably extinct Tata Gurkha, which appears to be a Rancho-type car.

I think if anyone could find a Gurkha or Safari, they'd basically win Autoshite.

There used to be both in or around the village I was bought up in. Another memory was a competition at the Village Fête where one could win a metallic red Daewoo Leganza**

**Or whatever the Vauxhall Cavalier based one was called.

Sister in law had one new around 2004.Wasn't actually a bad car. Big for a small car, if you get my meaning. Think the engines were based on a Peugeot design, which might explain the sound.

I remember a rumour back when these were current that the engine was loosely based on an old Peugeot unit so that could explain the 205-ness.

Couple of daylight shots. In dire need of a wash, a bit of touch parking and a few localised touch-ins with what looks like chalkboard paint (!) But not bad overall. There’s a feel of low perceived quality but underlying robustness to these, or at least that’s what I’m hoping for.

  • HMC changed the title to HMC motors-reheated Indian tastes good?
  • HMC changed the title to HMC motors-NEW Cityrover

Decided the cityrover needed a quick jet wash.  Mould and farmyard muck has given way to paint. Actually quite a high quality paint finish to my suprise.

Fellow city car also papped. It somehow looks startled whilst the city rover looks quietly determined. It’s nose job is Peter Stevens whilst the basic body styling was by I.DE.A in the mid 90s.

Excellent. How do you find the gearchange? That and the truly awful column stalks were the only real bugbears for me. They're actually a rather bonny drive. As you say though, the steering is not great - very twitchy. Amusingly, that's one of the things Rover changed. I'd love to try an Indica to see how it compares.

You are recreating a loyal Rover buyers fleet circa 2004. Nice diesel estate in a sober colour for the golf club/angling/garden centre trips  and a little Metro for the wife.

‘Oh, they’ve stopped making Metros now have they? Better get one of these then’

  • HMC changed the title to HMC motors-NEW collection- what is it?

As a local Mk2 Caddy owner I hope it's the Inca so we can get them together for a photo shoot. Especially as they're both rare windowed vans.

I fear it may be another Rover 75 though.
