HMC- Smoking about in the Granada

HMC

Recommended Posts

Major concern that would have been a deal breaker for me, do you have a flower?

I do like the Beetle convertibles much more than I thought I would when I got mind. I have got used to sitting half way back along the car in the driver's seat, but never the brightness of the indictor repeaters on the end of the mirrors at night. It has spent the winter being my go to car with the roof up and now I want to fix the rear window back in the hood and go topless so I can hear what people are saying about me!

I do like the plate on yours much better than my 03 normal plate.

Good choice for a bit of variety.

  • HMC changed the title to HMC motors- Beetle (‘new’ as I’m poor)

I’ve neither the budget or the storage for classic beetle convertible. I did once drive a nice German registered one a decade or so ago to and from the beaulieu auto jumble. The rummage sale money I bought this “new” beetle for probably wouldn’t cover the price of a limited range classic beetle accessories, and instead I get the whole car, one which is immune from theft and free from care.

Cool, but the question is, as always: "What will happen to a toupée or flat cap when the speed exceeds 40 km/h? And will it turn all females to Kim Wilde?"

Q. What’s a £500 beetle TDI convertible like?

A. Has a noisy DMF, ropey roof covering and “patina” (if it was a classic VW convertible that phase would be a certainty in a scene taxed advert) or minor damage in plain English. But the roof does work and it’s a firm thumbs up from children of all ages...

That Beetle looks great value for £500.

I wonder why the values are so depressed?  I guess they made a lot of them and they’re quite hardy so many still remain.

We’ve somehow got sidetracked but did a few spots; those uplifting ones where the cars are actually used and enjoyed and parked on the street, not in dehumidified storage as part of a “portfolio”  etc.

  • HMC changed the title to HMC motors- roaming in a w210. In London.

Considering I gave £400 for a 53 beetle convertible in the same AS color but infinitely worse condition in every conceivable way, I'd say that was a bargain.

Incidentally mine goes in for a mot game of pass/fix/scrap this week with a possible roffle depending on the result.

After I suspect over 300 vehicles, I have now got a YELLOW car. With 3 cylinders and as many doors.

It’s had one family from new; piles of paperwork including the brochure etc. I wondered what elaborate term they might give to the colour. Something pretentious (it’s a Vw after all) Maybe a reference to impressionist artists? Nope. It’s listed as YELLOW.

I think it's a forum rule that @Jim Bell automatically gets first dibs on any smoll yellow cars.

Correct. Referring to my Autoshite handbook, rule 23 subsection (b-ii) it clearly says, and I quote:

"If it's yellow, Bell is your fellow."

Usually.

This little polo is a cheering little thing. It could be just the colour, but it is also it’s simplicity. Economy of doors and Cylinders (both 3) displacement and dimensions. Also of engineering as I learnt today it has no Dmf - just an old fashioned solid one.
Phew.

That is nice.  I quite fancy pottering around in a lupo for a bit.  It'd be perfect if it had a webasto.

Funnily enough I was looking for a yellow lupo (Partly inspired by @bunglebus) but the one I found was a good price but was quite far away and had “worn drivers door hinges” which put me off but I later read that is a thing on those.

Anyway rather predictably boredom set in .  It worked for a start. Plus I was looking at it being my only car until some business arrangements come to fruition. I’m eyeing up a bit more of a substantial classic purchase autumn time. Maybe a p4 rover. So man logic determined I needed a bigger car, as it was my only car (Perhaps like the e class merc I had recently sold ....)

Anyway continuing the odd number of cylinders themeI’ve moved from three to five.  It sounds a lot better (not hard) ; it’s a lot smoother (not hard) and also uses more fuel (also not hard) It also has exterior design by a man from Northumberland, even though it draws heavily from the Company’s very heavily Swedish corporate identity.....

2.5  5cyl 20v manual. It’s not a quick as it sounds, but it sounds amazing. So I will forgive it that.

This is the first 5cyl estate since my w123 300d. This is faster, less rusty, but equally in its own way a product of a distinct and individual design and engineering practice. But never mind that, it just sounds great!

About as tasteful as your nan having a tattoo of Cliff Richard across both of her tits and showing all the guys at the social club what a fan she is. On a regular basis.

Well bought!
