Well bought. Great cars. No cred, but sooooo useful, and even quite fun to drive.

Although exactly what my Dad did with his Y reg 1.6 beige base estate in 1983.  That and fit a cheap mono radio.

I had a mk1 Fiesta base and fitted reversing light, rear fog light, changed the dashboard and heater to get the side vents and fitted a thermo switch for the cooling fan that would run continually on the base, god knows why i did all that when i think back.

I can’t think of the phrase but something people always attribute to old houses and being but a mere custodian of things. Well done you’ve done everything you could I’d take comfort in that.

I reckon it'll be the base, the V6 was a bit of a flop.

Had four Doblos, but never a petrol one.,or a WAV conversion. They are useful things.Didn't like the second generation ones(2010 onwards),so changed to a second generation Kangoo which was a better load carrier and more economical, but slower.Looking forward to a trip down memory lane when we hear about it,as my last one,57 reg, went in 2011.

I can totally understand why your son is so distraught!😄 I would be too. Sorry!

We had those Doblo’s en masse at SSE for the smaller vans after they stopped buying Transit Connect’s. Istr they could suffer from exhaust gases somehow getting into the cabs. I can’t remember why though?

It's the diesels for that, they leak past the injectors seals. Common modern diesel problem

Maybe you could rub down the grill surround of the Doblo, paint it grey, then it can be a nice nod towards its predecessor on your fleet?

Or not.

How is insurance for the WAV converted Doblo?, A few Berlingos and Kangoos pop up near me and 90% of the time, they are (Annoyingly, for me because insurance bellends) WAV conversions.

Any time i get a quote for them, it's pretty much 'HAHAHAHAHAHA NOPE!' prices approaching, or into 4 figures. A non WAV example is more like £450 by comparison.

I can see why you bought this as it looks fantastic value and extremely practical but I totally empathise with your son. I hope he does not feel as bad as I did when my father replaced his 1600E with a Viva. Hopefully his disappointment and embarrassment are more in line with how I felt when my dad’s Cortina estate was replaced by a new mk3 Escort 1.3L. If my own experience is anything to go by as a child he may not have fully recovered from the disappointment in fifty years time 😂. If you take him to school or pick him up you may need to park up a side street and walk a few hundred yards. Seriously though I hope it serves you well and that your son quickly gets over it, tell him it is character building.

It was actually the insurance that made me pull the trigger. I was mindful that the Sierra was MOT exempt, tax exempt and on a classic policy - so nothing was ever going to be as cheap.  But the Doblo was £240 for the year on a regular policy. In 2025, that’s mega value.

Note to self. Never sell the Mundano. My 10 years are in Feb. Also outlasted my marriage m9.

Thanks for saving it 💓

Oh, that's where H264 FPL ended up!

was that owned by someone on here? I remember when Ceri went to collect my XM for me he was trying up the trip with collecting a blue Galant for someone else on here.  Would be a coincidence if both cars then ended up with Retroshite a few weeks apart

Shite entropy dictates that on a long enough timescale any pre-'99 vehicle will pass through @RetroShite's orbit.

Somehow seems appropriate next to a non-wrx Impreza.

My dad went from an Escort 1.6 Ghia estate to a base model, black bumper, windy window 1.2 Corsa C. Depressing doesn’t even cover it.

My dad went from a Sierra to a 1.4 base Astra. That’s a cut in your living standards to my mind.

My dad always said that about Fords and he also had a landcrab although this was in the 80s and it was rotten! He later bought brush painted Talbot Alpine then a brown Lada Riva so street cred wasn't high!
