Great cars, brilliant drives and expert buying tips. Modern Classics is the brand new magazine for fans who love hero cars from the ’80s, ’90s & ’00s.

There is an ever growing demand for a publication aimed at cars which are great to drive and exciting to own, but aren't yet ready to appear in mainstream classic mags. In Europe, they're known as 'youngtimers' – in the UK we call them 'modern classics'.

And that's where we come in. Modern Classics is the only magazine that exclusively celebrates the best cars from the 1980s, 1990s and the 2000s. We’ll show you how to buy, drive and enjoy these great future classics – or current

I say.

They could learn a lot from this forum, no? Especially the 'how to buy' part. Like the only way buying a Jag is sight unseen, then picking it up after dark, in the rain, in an unlit alley 300 miles from home and such stuff. Or going to buy a Sherpa van for an imminent house move/modern diesel estate and coming back with a Stag/CX. That's the way to do it.

Sounds really boring. I can't imagine they class Maestros as "hero cars".

On the plus side, hopefully it will keep some of the moderns out of PC. Who knows.

No thanks. Is it ok to judge a magazine by its cover? Looks like a Top Gear mag back copy.

I got excited when honest john launched the classics site, but now I can't remember the last time I went on it. Car stuff is mostly tedious, with the exception of right here. Until someone brings out 'Overlooked Underdog Monthly' and they do a 'benefits of brown' edition I probably won't bother with car mags.

Edit: having said that, they must have a readers letters page so a crisp £5 for the first autoshiter to get a fact* from the automotive facts thread published.

No "Win a Frog" competiton? Pfft.

It's... all right.  We'll know more by issue 3.  I hope they stop printing it on toilet paper, though.

EDIT: Brahn Sule's 560SEC, what he brought* from Nigel Mansell.  Nice.

I can see the problem straight away "We celebrate the best 90's 00's cars..."

The irony on here we celebrate the worst. Unless that is they are going to do a feature on someone rebuilding a 1998 Mondeo Aspen. It'll be all Clio Sports and MX5s

Yeah, the cover shot isn't really inspiring confidence with the Clio 172 and whatnot. I think I see a Saxo at the back but it'll be all the performance ones.

Still better than most mainstream mags, I suspect our perfect magazine would have a readership of twelve (and then they'd get passed around to save cash)

I'll give it three issues before folding.

db9 for 50k....ooookkkkkk *swerve*

Yeah... that could be a problem.  A bit 'aspirational', in all the wrong ways...

From the looks of the all important issue 1 cover- mainly performance cars. I will probably buy issue 1 just to eye up what the editoral team are about- it seems to be a flashback to evo magazine circa 2000. Will be interested to have a read all the same.

I'd like a Citroen ZX 1.9D automatic performance test please.

I don't think they were fitted with performance as standard, I believe it was an optional extra.

Looks awful.

0/271.

R34 GT-R - £25-40k

M5 - £18k

Focus - £8-12k

156 GTA - £9k

Boxster - £4-9k for early ones

R129 SL - £3-8k

Clio 182 - up to £4-5k

Corrado VR6 - £~4k

Not for us I don't think, nice idea though.

That said there appears to be a piece on BTCC homologation specials (hey Cavcraft!), and a piece on Xantia Activas...

"Lotus Elise S1. Amazing value to buy! Get in now!"

*rushes to Ebay*

Such value.

Not at all unattainable to most.

Must rush.

Why not buy two.

Thank you for the "top tip" £2.99 magazine.

How am I going to fit ten cases of plonc in that tomorrow before I get the train back?

They put the 3 door mk1 focus RS on the front, when they should put either an ST170 or a Ka on it.

Focus - £8-12k

As I say. ST170 prices from £0.7K to £1.6K

That "barn find" Cosworth was months and months ago and covered by all the motoring magazines at the time so Its not really new news.

Posted

Nothing on that cover, written or photographed, interests me in the slightest.   I bought half a dozen 1960s Motor Sport magazines at a boot sale last year for the same money.  I'm still reading those.....

There is already plenty of magazines out there for AS, just get a copy of Motor from 1980, what more could you possibly want ?

It'd be nice to bring Jalopy back, but it'd flop.

I'm involved (a little bit) with this one, doing what I always do, and I'll say this - give it time. Cover appeal is important, but the ethos behind it is sound and that will take time to really get underway. And if you think about it - is anyone going to produce an actual AS mag? Who'd support it financially? Communities like this exist thanks to internet - Jalopy folded when it had a chance and captive market! Now no-one needs to pay for that content, we give it away here and before now, for many AS people it would have been uk.rec.cars.*

There's a good chance at least two AS cars will show up in there, for starters ;)

I was wondering if you or Keith were gonna comment. At least people are discussing the magazine so as they say no publicity is bad publicity
