I will try not to derail the thread too much, but Chris wanted information on the semaphore tower I visited on a walk this morning.
there were 14 plots of land bought ( 15 days after the battle of Waterloo) between 5 and 9 miles apart depending on the topography. Chatley Heath was by far the largest built and most were two storey. It’s 9miles as the signal is sent / crow flies to the admiralty. And 75 miles to Portsmouth.

it was fully operational in 1822 and messages took 15 mins to reach Portsmouth. Decommissioning was in 1847 after the railways and invention of the electric telegraph.

Home Riggs popham ship to ship code . England expects etc.

moveable arms on a mast signalling letters of the alphabet. Controlled by a gear system from inside the living quarters, with a sort of clock face indicating what the arms 100ft up were showing

I do have that 'contemplating my life choices' expression going on.

That's the perfect looking mk3 Spitfire right there. Lovely.

I have to thank @Zelandeth for doing the honours last night and collecting my Citroen BX from Hitchin on a Friday afternoon.

It had been to the  Chevronic Center, Citroen specialist to have its heater cables made to work, handbrake cables replaced and a rear hydraulic leak cured.

Now home in fine fettle it would be an obvious candidate for Shitefest 2024.

What’s the red car in the foreground? Is it the soft top version of the infamous Pistonheads car?

When should we have the next FoD?

I would like to organise a couple more weekends at FoD for 2023, when would you like them?

I am available:

 29/30th July

12/13 August

26/27/28 August

2/3 September

If the weather is with us for one of the weekends and we have enough man power I would like to take all our running cars to the FoD along with those already at the FoD for a photo shoot.

The target would be 30 working and a few towed into line. Anybody volunteer to plan, organise and be the main camera man?

First one is FOTU and last one is RADWood at Bicester heritage which might limit attendance.

Having said that, I’m not booked for FOTU and that is the only date I can do off that list 😭

2CV 24hr, bank holiday weekend.  Otherwise, any of those! 😁

I think it would be good to not clash with FOTU, but RADWood I think would give somewhere to camp as we are only 13 miles away.

Multiple dates possible?

Probably won’t be able to do the bank holiday in August due to family stuff but the other dates look OK for me.
