If anyone in attendance has use for it though please go ahead. I'm not there I'm afraid, in Norfolk this week but if it stays kicking around next week I'm happy to be involved in a save! CGSB 1
juular Posted August 13, 2023 Posted August 13, 2023 Big progress was made on the V4 Saab. When we arrived the engine was mostly complete and just needed the choke and throttle linkages fitted, and the wiring to the ignition fixed. With this done we tried to start it from a can, and reassuringly it coughed very soon after. Not so reassuring was the flames leaping out of the intake! The firing order was sorted and the timing set to 6BTDC with a test light as per the HBOL. With that sorted it burst into life without much drama other than the throttle pedal being a bit sticky. Only things left were to fix the frozen clutch hydraulics, fit a new fuel tank and replace the radiator and heater hoses. The clutch slave turned out to be the issue and this was quickly sorted (sorry I can't remember the name of the chap that was getting stuck into this!) I fitted and plumbed in the tank while the cooling system was laid out. It turns out there's a couple of hoses missing and we couldn't find anything else to fit, so that will have to wait for a bit. It's only those hoses and the lights and grille to go back on then it should be a driveable car again. beko1987, mat_the_cat, RobT and 15 others 17 1

wuvvum Posted August 13, 2023 Posted August 13, 2023 No idea how this is going to work with the compression software on the forum - it's probably going to reduce each car to a single pixel - but I'll give it a go anyway. CGSB, chaseracer, DSdriver and 15 others 18

Crackers Posted August 13, 2023 Posted August 13, 2023 Home after a typical un-relaxing trip down the A34. How I hate that road. Thanks everyone for a great weekend! That Rolls looks bloody sinister in torchlight. Proper. 💙 LightBulbFun, bobdisk, Six-cylinder and 6 others 9

juular Posted August 14, 2023 Posted August 14, 2023 Many thanks once again to @Six-cylinder and @Mrs6C for their hospitality and being great hosts. We took the fuel efficient route south by adding about 250 miles to our journey in the camper going down random roads, and found some lovely places to sleep for the night. Some random photos of the weekend. With thanks to @Andyrew for the shot of the Spitfire. Had a small event on the way home as the gearstick went completely limp while pulling out of Ferrybridge services. Thankfully a short lived breakdown as I had a gear linkage repair clip stashed in the glovebox for just this occasion. All these vans do exactly the same thing eventually. quicksilver Posted August 14, 2023 Posted August 14, 2023 One of the best FOD weekends. Good to see so many visitors and such a diverse lineup of cars - it's fair to say Chris and Claire's vehicular taste is eclectic. Highlight for me was having a go in the Xantia Activa, even if only round the field. It's so weird to drive round in circles on full lock with the car staying dead flat and I'm now wondering just how quickly it could handle the many roundabouts of MK. LightBulbFun Posted August 14, 2023 Posted August 14, 2023 Many thanks to @Mrs6C and @Six-cylinder for another Awesome weekend! seeing almost all of the collection lined up was simply spectacular! the Royce was a lovely old thing a nice set of Homo-Hygrade plates on the Royce, they might actually be original to the car, but the only way to get a clue in on that is to check if they are painted on the back, only pre-war Homo plates were painted on the back, they stopped the practice after the war and I was kindly given the failed headlamp bulb from it for a closer look and I could see in person the date code was actually H65, so 65=May 1955 and the LNA was a lovely little thing it was quite interesting to see actual tin models, with everything having been made out of plastic for so many years now! lacquer peel relatives the Cadillac was certainly a nice place to be Autoshite Recovery services in action when the FoD Railway REV Replacement Service FTP'ed and I managed to commandeer the Pug 404 for a pootle around the paddock, which was very interesting, my first experience of a column shifter, found it no bother at all and it drove in general surprisingly nicely, the seats are very comfy and even without power steering the steering was not that bad, (certainly better then a Lada Riva!) but the brakes more or less dont exist LOL and also many thanks to @Mrs6C and @Six-cylinder for giving me permission to get some temporary insurance for Citroen ZX and @Mrs6C and @Prince_of_darkness91 for being my co-pilot as I took the road for the first time since late 2021! no pictures of that since well uhh I was driving LOL once again all very awesome and many thanks to all involved Weird Car, Dick Cheeseburger, chaseracer and 10 others 13
Six-cylinder Posted August 14, 2023 Author Posted August 14, 2023 People have asked me why I don't use the E-Type more, here is the typical reason why. Yes it broke down going back to storage. @Talbotchecked the fuel and that was fine so checked for a spark and there wasn't one. Next it was the tow of shame for the E-Type behind the Citroen XM. richardmorris, Coprolalia, Prince_of_darkness91 and 5 others 7 1
