Six-cylinder Posted July 27, 2023 Author Posted July 27, 2023 I feel I need to plead my case to stay an Autoshiter because of my actions! Yes I have bought a Rolls Royce, but it is an old one and Mrs6C thinks it has been painted with the whole badger rather than its bristles in a brush! Yes it a bit shoddy and the cheapest non-Limousine I could find. 1933 Rolls Royce 20/25 with Park Ward owner driver D back body. SiC Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 How fast does it go mister? I remember Saabnut mentioning about you having an interest when he picked up my Minor! (Side note, whatever happened to that car?) barefoot 1

I have driven it 25 miles home through the queuing traffic of Northampton and got it up to 57 mph on the dual carriageway. Seems to drive well except for a little brake imbalance. Appropriate registration mark is appropriate! given it is a 20/25 I almost wonder if that was intentional back in 1933? one for the cars with their model number in their registration mark thread! brownnova Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Fan-flipping-tactic purchase that! Again, I also seemed to have an awareness that this was in the offing, but glad that it has happened! Great purchase, and a car you’ve wanted for a long while, which is of course the whole point.
HMC Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Lovley, did you buy it at the H&H classic auction? Sounds like it has an interesting history. Six-cylinder 1

Dick Cheeseburger Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Churchill's daughter's runabout? It's got some history! Impressive old beast for sure.
Crackers Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Christ, I've just seen the brief history of it. Definitely from the era when only people of a certain calibre could buy a Roller. Also, it appears to have a link to Sheffield Park, which is the base of the Bluebell Railway, so that's nice too. High Jetter and LightBulbFun 2
Six-cylinder Posted July 27, 2023 Author Posted July 27, 2023 It drove home fine from the collection point in Northampton so I took it to BMW club tonight, in Bicester and it drove there fine. On the way home it started popping on lift off overrun as I got near home. It has two rate charging manually selected, but it was too dark to see the ammeter so maybe running headlights has discharged the battery to the point the ignition was compromised. It had a flat battery on the drive when I tried to move it to a better parking spot and I put the jump pack on it to get it parked. It is now on charge and I will see how that works out tomorrow. It looked great in the evening sunshine tonight. Saabnut, SiC, Tickman and 31 others 34

Six-cylinder Posted July 28, 2023 Author Posted July 28, 2023 @Slowsilver helped me move the Biturbo to storage this afternoon to make more room for the 20/25. I felt it was only fair to give him first ride in the 20/25. Armed with a printout on how to cold start your 20/25 I set about getting it started. Having had it on charge since last night the starter flung the engine over with enthusiasm. Trouble was it would only run using the starter carb which you are not suppose to use for more than 30 secs. Slowsilver noticed the knurled lid of the carburettor piston housing had vibrated lose and unscrewed slightly allowing the vacuum within to be compromised, the piston therefore did not rise and the slow running jet did not operate as intended. This repair is of course considered to just be the normal duties of a chauffeur! (thank you slowsilver for your diagnosis and repair, you have saved the car from being unusable this weekend) The plan now is to take slowsilver out for an evening run after rush hour. brownnova, Matty, somewhatfoolish and 21 others 24
