DVLA usually write to the registered keeper then wait 2 weeks to hear back from them so expect the V5 to take a month or so. In the meantime  I wouldn't spend much time or money on it just in case the person on the V5 decides they still want it.

That has less mould on the steering wheel than my E30, and that's only been off the road a few months. Then again, if the Alfa was outside there might only be a steering wheel left

Can I lick the steering wheel? (Would double as mould removal, too.)

How was this free? If you had to suck someone off for it, that classes as paying for it in my books.

Only if you swallow? (asks Ms C)

That's bloody ace for free,  hopefully the PO owes the landlord enough not to put up a fight.

A free alfa sprint! Fantastic! I must admit when you said a free 1989 alfa I expected a sorry looking 33 (equally great) but THIS!

Hmm. Wonder what a red Alfa Sprint pick-up would look like.

Hmm, it may have been free but surely the with no keys or paperwork you should have haggled a bit harder.

It's lovely. This must have been one of the last, shirley?

A screwdriver for the barrelled door lock and a length of wire to bridge the starter to the battery?

Time to sweep up the FSO and concentrate on this?

I have to echo everyone else, what a fantastic find, that's mega sexy, even the steering wheel is giving me the horn!

Good luck with the DVLA and getting it recommissioned you jammy fucker!

I fucking hate you.

Not really. That's epic, and right ip in the top five of cars I really want to own. Had a 1.3 Sprint some years ago, and it was ace. The controls are bonkers, though.

Very nice one Scott...Scotland eh...this is on par with the Lanchester D4 that just went for 300scrotes in Edinburgh....

Have you checked the boot for bodies?

The closest I have come to that is discovering a neighbour in my block of flats had a Cherry Europe in his lock up.  He wouldn't have given it to me though....

You utter bastard.

That's easily the best free thing ever, even better than a free KitKat chunky.

Hopefully applying for the V5 and whatnot will be a smooth process.

Jealousy from me.. Make sure the landlord/landlady sends the owner a bill for STORAGE if he wants his Alfa back. That should sort the ownership out!

Posted

Lucky sod! After 7 years in storage you would think the previous owner has forgotten or given up on it so dvla shouldn't be an issue. Also keys can't be too hard for this age of car, what a find!

Thats bloody great!

The last freebie I had was a Mk 1 Ford Orion Gl............

I feel cheated.

Bloody hell, an Alfa sprint! That's probably the last one in one piece left in the UK. Very, very nice

Correct. Should be no bother at all with this. Most lock up peeps have a contract stating all contents are destroyed/sold on if no rent is paid. Its your motor alright

I had a car in a garage from 2004 - 2011, I got made redundant and stopped paying for garage. The car was basically locked in the garage (they changed the locks) for three years. I paid up and got the car out, but would've been a bit surprised if I got a query from the DVLA about ownership.

Don't do anything until you get the log book back. ;)

Well done Scott. I had one of those back in the late 80s, 86/7 I think. Great car to drive - when it went. I was looking at them again recently, just the other day. The prices a decent one goes for now are an awful lot more than free.

But be aware that a V5 in your name still doesn't make you the owner. The landlord would be well advised to prepare and send (preferably 60 days or so ago) a bill for storage to the last known address of the owner advising them that their car will be sold if payment not received within 30 days or similar.

Basically, legally, at the moment, you've stolen a car or will have as soon as you move it.

Without wishing to piss on your chips, even Doovla issuing a V5c is NOT ownership. Says so, all over the front page.

Unless the Garage owner has won , in Court, for unpaids or whatever, you must trace the owner, even if it's only to pay him 1p, for title.

If you don't it will never be yours, nor will you legally be able to pass/ sell it on.

There are several cases, on both this and the blue forum, where the Original Keeper has waited for its recommission, then reclaimed. The law will side with them, as legal owner, and you lose the lot.

So, beware. Don't spend much money on it, until the legals are clarified.

Nice one though!
