No more cars!

2014 was the first year this century I didn't buy a car.   I sold one instead.   However, I have spent £500 on the Cowley, £1000 on the Minor and £800 on the T25.   Shit, that's three cars at least I could have bought.   I almost bought a Mk4 Fester on Christmas Eve but didn't really need it.   Must try harder this year.....

I'm up at 6 at the moment but cant help looking at cheap shite on ebay or gumtree. I really need to focus on the ones I've got because buying 1 car each month for the last few months has crippled me financially especially on my apprentice wages.

I've got 2 cars on the road,

a Proton mpi and a Proton Jumbuck

Which leaves 2 project cars

I really need to restrain from buying more shite, I've got enough as it is.

Even if you don't buy anything else you are 2014 autoshite champion looking at those pics.

I own four cars at the moment but want to sell one because three is enough.

I need a daily driver for my Autobahn-driving to Vienna and during winter. So a modernish daily is a must.

The green Pajero is absolutely mint all over, so I dont drive it much. Only 750km last year. Not in the garage, waiting for spring. I´ll never sell it!

The brown Pajero cost me way too much by now and is currently not on the road because more expensive trouble surprised me. I´ll throw even more money on it.

The Leone is currently not driveable because problems with the carb. It cost me really big money, but it will have to go in spring.

Three cars is enough. I want my cars to be in good nick, driveable and tested. Not possible with four.

I wonder what car I might own without my old ones eating all my money. Dont even think about it...

I can't help but want to change every few months, which I like, but can put strain on things. ZX that I've got at the moment does everything it needs to, but just feels dull. Mrs S's 147 has been around for a while now, and is due MOT shortly, so might just cut losses on that if it fails, sell as spares or repair and get something else. Biggest problem for me at the moment is that I just don't seem to be able to muster any level of enthusiasm. I think, perhaps, that this year I won't renew my trade policy, so that I don't feel compelled to be constantly arsing around with cars.

I don't know....

^^^Blimey Lukas.  Subaru Leone...V6 3000 Pajero...Mazda 6 series.....Are you me?  Chuck a '70s Beetle in there and the set will be complete.

At my peak I had 9 cars in 4 countries, which was ridiculous. Now down to 4 cars in 2 countries. If I won the lottery I'd have one crap car at a time but only for about a week each.

Princess has to be back on the road by March because the 40th birthday event happens then

Event?  Where, when?  I may have to buy a Princess, quick.  Anyone know of one available?

From the Princess forum:

March 26th 2015 marks the 40th anniversary of the official launch of the Princess range of cars.

We have been given permission to have a celebration at the Cowley Oxford plant on Thursday 26th March 2015 where there will be refreshments, a birthday cake, a tour of the plant, and hopefully Harris Mann himself will come along to join the celebrations.

I realise this means a day off work for some members but I'm sure you'll agree it will be well worth it and I hope we can get the biggest gathering of Wedges we have ever seen. Anyone with a Wedge (Ambassadors included) is welcome even if they are not members.

---

I'm seriously considering A-framing the Princess down if it isn't road legal in time. If only there were someone selling a Princess you could buy, Eddy. A red one would suit you quite well.

I want one to drive, one to fix / fettle and one for Mrs Me.

I thought I was there when I transferred the Subaru to my wife to replace her Civic which she gave to youngest.

But no, I bought a Honda Insight, intending it to replace the MR2.

Last year I bought a Connect van, also intending that it should replace the MR2.

They all work ok except for the Honda which only needs an mot, which only needs work and money and dry days.

Really, I should sell the MR2 in the spring, fix the Honda tomorrow and get some rear seats for the van so the Subaru could go.

But the Subaru is really good and pretty worthless and there is no point in having a van if it is full of seats............

The van is a keeper, If it had to be just one, it would be the van.

But I fancy a proper saloon like a Crown Vic. or a Volvo 240 Diesel. And something pre-war. And a Corvair.

Oh dear.

I like red, that would go down very well indeed.  If only we knew of one...

Anyone want an entry-level American luxury car?

I have decided to stop buying cars and stick with the Rolls and the hearse. Unfortunatly I am now enjoying the old Honda CB125 and 2015 will be the year to pass my bike test. I have already bought a Honda Deauville so will probably end up buying bikes all year now. I fancy a Monet Goyon which will give me a french road trip as well.

If you fancy selling that cb125 let me know! :-)

I bought a diesel Mondeo this afternoon.  Do I win?

My fleet is in dire need of a trim again.  I don't even know off the top of my head how many I have.  Let's have a count:

Rover 200

Toyota Carina E

Volvo 164

Innocenti

MGB

Renault 6

Mondeo

Peugeot Boxer van

Subaru 700 van

Subaru Forester

Volvo S40

Golf convertible

Vel Shatis

That's 13.  Plus 4 bikes (5 if you count the dead Spacy).

In my defence, December / January is a much better time to buy than to sell.  Once the weather warms up a bit I reckon the Golf will sell easily enough, as will a couple of the bikes.  The S40 is a bit of a pain though - it's worth bugger all as it is, but I'm loath to start spending money on it to try and get it running right - it's beyond my mechanical abilities so would have to go to a garage.  The Vel Satis is not dissimilar - although at least if I can get the heating working again it'll be useable.

Hmm, thinking out loud here:

The XM is boring apart from when it cries wolf with the BRLoD so, apart from the fact that I have spent a lot to get it into a usable state it could be sold.

The Safari needs a couple of new door skins and the heater sorting out and could be sold either before or after.

Which, if I sold one or both would leave me needing a large estate. Mk IV Zodiac? Triumph 2500? Any other suggestions.

The DS pallas will never be sold, we love it too much.

The Peugeot of last resort will stay until it breaks itself because... well because it IS the last resort.

I'm on five just now...

'83 340DL 1.4 manual - now off the road 18 years.

'88 740GLE 2.3 auto - accident damage

'89 740GLE 2.3 auto - HGF

'89 Cavalier SRi130 - rusty

'97 940LPT Classic 2.3 manual - T&T, running (like a cow), has computers so defeating me. Ideally wants replaced by another 740.

Harrumph. I need a change of brand.

I think my main aim for 2015 is to own a car that is vaguely watertight. Still can't decide what to do with the 2CV, can't make predictions about the XM but I definitely want an Ami or Dyane. Three car maximum. In theory...

I've got five, would like to reduce to four by selling my shiny orange 2CV. Needs an mot along with two other cars this month. Gr3.

Posted

I'm on 4 plus a bike.

The 2 dull ones - company Focus and a Derv Galaxy are the only ones that go.

2015 ambition to get at least one other working and legal.

Posted

Feeling like a bit of an amateur - only have three plus a bike (& a 30y/o racing pushbike).

205GTi, MX5 Mk1 & Yam 350YPVS - these are all keepers - all sorted,garaged/under cover & not being sold. Plus my daily £350 Pug 406TD saloon. I have room for one more but not sure if I really want a fourth car though I may get another small bike 125-200 sized, for local hack work (have looked recently - where have all the CG/CD/GS125 & CD Benly's gone? None about anymore only cheapo Chinese junk).

Might change my 406 Dissel chod this year but not sure what to get so may end up keeping it as it's pretty sorted generally and I kind of like it's dullness. May have a year off from buying cars as spent the last couple changing the fleet around, sold two (156 V6 & Eunos) & bought three cars (the above), sold one bike (Bandit12) and working to get all the others sorted so feeling a bit Car'd-out if you see what I mean.

I'm currently at 4. The Merc, Civic, Cortina and a Focus.

The plan is to sell the Merc ASAP and buy something modernish for daily service, sell the Civic and replace with another project/toy to keep me busy, I'm keeping the Cortina as I've invested to much money into it plus I want to fit a type 9 gearbox into it and the modern Focus will have to stay for now as I can't afford to change it but it now smokes under acceleration and the clutch is on it way out which isn't very good for a 6 year old/76k car.

I've got a serious itch for a new car at the moment but my sensible head says I need to sell the Civic first but I need to mot it soon and get the rear box welded first plus it's the wrong time of year to sell cars.

I shall have to show Mrs B this thread to show her that owning more than two cars is entirely... normal! Maybe then I can add to the modern mile-muncher and the seemingly always broken MG!

Does this mean that Wuvvum is the first person on here to buy a car this year?

Posted

I've got four, those in my sig plus the Corsa but that will be going soon hopefully. I'm contemplating selling both Rovers and getting an XJ40 plus a small automatic like an early Clio or something. Mrs T moans about the clutch in the 220, so having another auto to pootle about in will keep her happy.

Six cars currently : three on the road, two having work done, one for sale.

A small collection by Autoshite standards, but I don't think I could realistically cope with any more.
