With the Suzuki swift and it's 8 days mot . If it has a failure then it has no mot . Most people don't realise that these days once a failure has been issued your off the road. The vehicle has been deemed unroadworthy and is all logged on the system as such. Be careful out there .

About 15 years ago I recall many new/nearly new Puntos knocking about at good prices. I was told there had been too many imported apparently. There were shed loads knocking about, now they're at the end of their life and there's still a glut.

Yeah, very possibly, slightly misinterpreted the aim of the thread. I think the first one will struggle to bust the 200 barrier but the other looks fairly tidy and I would think some lucky* teenager will get this as their first wheels for around 350 or so. Very sensible choice too

 

If we include spares or repairs in this thread then around half of the Clios and Puntos on the bay will qualify!

I think they already do (or did). Sure a guy in Romford had a 1300 base model with full body kit but couldn't afford the wheels at the time so it rolled about, booming exhaust and stereo with 155's providing the traction.

If you fail an MOT 11 months after getting a cert, you still have a month left. Type your reg into the gov site and it'll tell you as such; that's the same database the plod use so you won't get pulled.

 

That's why you can drive it home, book it in for some repairs, and still drive it around for a bit. I've never heard of anyone getting into bother doing that.

 

Worst that can happen is you get pulled for something else, police inspect the car and find it to be unroadworthy - that has nothing to do with the recent MOT fail, that could also happen the day after it passes.

Its up to the individual of course but when I did my tester training I was told that once a failure has been issued the old cert is invalid but you can still drive it home etc. Imagine having an accident and plod finding out it had failed.

The MOT has always been valid from its issue for 12 months.  If your car fails, say because your sensible and present it a month early to allow for work, the original MOT is still valid.  VOSA/DVSA have always danced around the issue, but their training is and always has been, that the MOT is still in force, though the driver may be deemed to be driving an unroadworthy vehicle (by the Police) if he is later involved in a collision.  Even a Cat C or Cat D write off still retains its current MOT status (no matter what certain Insurance companies may tell their customers).
