Shit you see at the side of the road

I'm heading into Brummagem in a few mins for a meeting - d'you want me to pick it up for you on the way back...?

;)

Thank you, but that won't be necessary. It has long been replaced with a new one and I sold the car.

Here, where people will load crap onto the back of a flatbed vehicle and not secure it, knowing* in their wisest* hearts that gravity will keep it in place.

Recent one on Hwy 24 was a fairly new looking stainless steel oven, all beat up with the glass smashed out all over the side of the road. Glass aquarium (probably about 5'x8'x4') with two of the panes still intact, the usual sofas/tvs/mattresses you get. Ratchet straps, tyre casings, various bits of cars, wheels, exhaust pipes, trailer wheels with the stub axle still attached.. various oddments

People normally pick anything of worth. I have a couple nice spanners, an old roll cab that's seriously rusty and all bent up out of shape, a pickaxe and a 3lb lump hammer that were side-of-the-road items.

There's about 20 miles of this.. alligators, snakes and occasionally some of the locals. You don't stop if you don't have to.

Going back a few years, a couple of miles from my house I noticed a Rover hubcap in a hedge next to the road.  On my way home I went past again and it was still there so I stopped and picked it up.  I then remembered my mate had mentioned in passing that he'd lost a hubcap off his Rover 100 a few days ago.  He was quite surprised when I turned up at his house and presented it to him.

On a similar note, if anyone's ever on the A377 between Torrington and Exeter and spots a Rover hubcap, I'd like it back please.  It came off somewhere along that road one dark and stormy night but on subsequent journeys I've never spotted it.

Thank goodness it is Friday. Beer in hand, Now I remember the weirdest thing I ever found in the road.

On the A38 between M50 and Tewkesbury, in the middle of a weekday afternoon I go round a corner and in the middle of the road is a caravan. Quite a big one, at about 45 degrees to the direction of travel. There is no one around, no cars or people, nothing. The caravan is on fire, really burning from end to end and the aluminium panels are melting.

Hastily quit the scene (gas bottles?), drive into town and report. WTF?

Is it law that every so many yards there must be one shoe on the hard shoulder of the motorway?

I once found a Scalelectric set on the A27, and a toy bager. (not at the same time).

Sooner or later somebody will find that bloke's dick on the A66.

I thought that shoes at the roadside were from accident victims, rather than just discarded?

Anyway, on the road into town there are some metal fragments on the verge and a clutch disc. I assume someone trip to the shops went badly.

Magpies will have had that.

On the Stoke side of J16 on the A500 south there's a hard top from something old on the grass next to the road. Its metal and looks a bit MGA to me. Its a bit battered. Id imagine a shiply transit driver had some explaining to do when he delivered the car!

Are you saying Newcastle fans are dick seekers?

How has no-one mentioned used condoms yet? Whenever I go for a piss in a layby, avoiding STIs always turns into some sort of reverse "hit the mole" with my stream

  ... Anyone see the artic lorry in the middle of a field, today, just south of Durham - A1(M)?

I saw it as I drove south, then - driving back north - saw the tyre ruts..... straight off the HS, verge, down the bank, thru the hedge... stopped [upright] axle deep.

EPIC  8)

A46 Hobby Horse junction on the outskirts of Leicester. Half a brake disc (vented and meaty-looking) in lane 2. I guess the next set of traffic lights would have been the interesting one....

On the M25 years ago, a four lane bit as you approach the M1 clockwise..... Merc pulled over on the shoulder, woman seemingly face down on the back seat, feet on the verge, knickers round her knees doing the biggest most explosive liqui-shitz session possible. It was like a dirty dirty horizontal fountain.

I once saw locking wheel nut sitting in the gutter at the end of my lane. I thought "oh look there's a locking nut someones going to miss that!" before realising it was the locking nut for my car that had fell off the day before when I'd changed the wheel and like a fanny just left it on there.

Anecdote for people wanting to go to sleep vv

The last time i consciously remember looking for road debris was back in circa 1994 when the middle and back pipe on dads metro city-X rotted through so in my 6 year old self mind the backbox i spotted at on the A1058 coast road at the Formica factory slip road looked abit like the one that he took off so we went on a recce and pilfered it off the side of the road,,needles to say it wasnt anything like so he basically just fitted straight pipes and a peice of down pipe as a pair of tail pipes one above the other with a core plug hammered into one of the pipes to calm it down abit, didnt half sound good when it popped out !

Otherwise recently i found a 3mm hss cobalt drill bit in unused condition literally at the back end of nowhere.

I usually just see bits of broken car, mostly from bumpers/valances/wheel trims. On the way to Manchester airport a few months back, I spotted a newish car headlight and bits of bumper, probably from a VW sitting on a roundabout.

I have often find spotted full, in-tact numberplates, and they've usually found thier way into my possession. One numberplate was from some Lamborghini with the local Lamborghini dealer details on it. Sometimes the numberplates are resting on fence posts or hanging on hedges.

Once, a few years ago on the M54 having just merged on from the M6, I saw, in between the central reservation bars in the middle, a Land Rover Freelander resting on its side. There was no other car/people around, in fact, I think I was the only one on the motorway. The central reservation bars were wide enough apart to fit this Freelander in between but there was no apparent damage to the bars. Very strange.

I also once saw a very damaged Mercedes C-Class facing a very damaged metal fence in Halesowen, whoever was driving it must have been absolutely caning it when it came into contact with the fence.

Not so long back..... A1M/M18 Roundabout in the middle of roadworks. I pulled onto the traffic light controlled section, to be faced with a brand new caravan jockey wheel. I slapped on the full orange light bars, and stopped dead. Within seconds, I had a Traffic Womble up my derriere. (He had been parked up in "observation" position 30 yards away.  "What are you doing??!!" "Clearing a dangerous item off the roundabout" says I. "Well it's dangerous" says he. "I know, I just told you that". "YOU shouldn't be on the roundabout". came the response. "Well if you had got out of your vehicle to collect it when it fell off, I wouldn't have had to" Silence....... I took it to my Son in Law's Father, who makes/repairs trailers in his spare time.... He was about to go out and buy a jockey wheel when I arrived. Job done. Also, ratchet straps, roof rack with load of suitcases, complete with clothes......... (I handed that lot in)  and a wheelchair........

There was a pointing trowel in the middle of the carriageway on a roundabout at West Kingsdown today. It could only end badly but I wasn't going to risk life and limb stopping to pick it up.

Very rarely find porn any more. I blame the internet.

I did once find a pair of fog lamps from an E36. They were in an E36-shaped hole in the fence over the road just after I was woken by the sounds of an E36 making a hole in a fence in the early hours of New Years Day. Never did catch the twat. Made a mess of his car though, shedding various bits of bodywork and a headlamp down the road.

I found a wheelstud in the road outside my house, but see all sorts on my travels, tyres, ratchet straps, odd shoes, underwear etc

Did you hammer a bigger house over it?

Found a decapitated cow with missing hooves dumped on the side of the road. Farmers do this as they have to pay for them to be disposed at a slaughter house, and this prevents them being ID'd.
