Have actually ridden one of these. Many Years ago (about 25) the bike shop i worked for had 'an evening with Phil Read' as he was still alive back then and still talking anyone who would listens ear off about how he was better than ago and hailwood etc and it was all down to him that yamahas did so well with 2 strokes etc etc, anyway, there were also a number of interesting MV's and the like about, as well as Foggys TT OwO1, which i also had a little go on.

The noise those MV fours make is purely magical and will make hair stand up on the neck (if they dont, check your pulse for alive-ness)

PLAY LOUD

Which might almost certainly won't lead you to the burning question: Can you fit three Kawasaki Z200s into a Peugeot Expert van? Let's find out...

Good work, amazes me where you turn this stuff up, I'd quite possibly be interested in the deadest one (most budget friendly!)

Both look ace, that GS seems to edge it though.

Did the GSXS tyre yesterday evening - after it picked up a clout last week. Fought me a bit, but got it done.

Went out on the TG300S and the back was a bit wayward, rear tyre shot on that [slick in the centre] just went out to the workshop and did that,  that as I bought a replacement in the winter. More to take apart than the GSXS, but everything was straight forward - the tyre itself was amazingly easy - old one came off no fuss and the new one went on no muss.

I'm going to have to disagree completely here sorry.

That's ok. Everyone is different and no harm in that. I love the simplicity of them. Modern, plastic bikes can go run off a very high cliff, like modern cars.

I've recently joined the 2 wheeled club again, with this - the closest thing you can get to a new old bike.

Suzuki SV650 - got just over 700 miles on it so far.IMG_20230430_103351.thumb.jpg.6cf934fe94a0bb549fb77d2b1c47b11d.jpg

Motorcycle action group (MAG), March 1980, campaigning against the laws on crash helmets. 'We are not against crash helmets themselves. We are against the compulsion to wear them, it’s all a matter of freedom of choice' -  spokesman Fred Hill who organised the demonstration.

Personally, I think he is wrong.

Given the dick heads who ride electric scooters (illegally) in shorts and flip flops, I honestly believe that making laws to force people to do things or not do things is pointless. Especially if you can't be arsed to pay enough police to encoraged compliance.

Education and propoganda may work better.  Or not.

Thanks. Nice morning out at Hunstanton today.. about 40 other bikers out, a bit of a group rip around and then an all day breakfast. That's another 150 miles on it, and a lot of fun.

How did I stay away from bikes for 30 years?

I think the point about being a manufacturer, is that you don't want to own them, you want other people to pay you to own them.

My son was looking to replace his Honda NC750x because he was finding it increasingly difficult to swing his leg over.  His hip joints are a bit knackered after many years of riding pedal cycles and sometimes falling off them.  Retro styled bikes are so much easier to get aboard as they don't have the 'arse in the air,' pillion seat upstairs styling nonsense.  He has test ridden several retro styled bikes in recent months, including the Royal Enfield Interceptor, Classic and Meteor 350, plus a BSA Goldstar more recently and liked them all but the Goldstar really impressed him with its characterful, punchy single cylinder but remarkably smooth running engine.  He therefore ordered a black and chrome Goldstar a couple of weeks ago from  a nearby dealer and picked it up today, the Honda going as part exchange.

Now he can't stop grinning and absolutely loves the BSA. Whereas the Honda was a modern soul-less, efficient tourer, the BSA contrasts with character, good looks, good price, decent warranty and is actually fun to ride.  I am jealous. I can't even get on my Peugeot moped which I've owned from new (1967).

Photos: Out with the new (Honda) and in with the new retro BSA.

He reluctantly sold his other bike the other day, an old one but in excellent condition Suzuki SV650S (carb type).  Its sporty riding position was making him ache after about an hour.  It is being replaced with a new Kawasaki Z650RS which impressed him when he test rode one a few weeks ago.  The BSA is staying. He loves it and has done over 1.1K miles since collecting it on 4th March this year.

My brother owns a BSA A10 (1960, I think), an A7 which is in bits and a 175cc Bantam also in bits but not needing too much restoration. He's restoring a Honda CB200 (I think) at the moment, and his daily ride is a RE Interceptor.

Incredible

For those that don't know, he had his right leg removed having crashed on the TT.

I'm not normally one for negative reviews but felt it worth mentioning on here to avoid Carole Fucking Nash like the plague.

Been with them a couple of years and no problems because never had to claim or ring them. Upon selling my TMax I did have to ring them, and the times were bad.

I've spoken to about 5 different people and had 2 that were borderline competent but very slow and 3 that made me want to smash the phone. Including a guy who seemingly couldn't remember what he was meant to be doing 30 seconds later.

The problems arose because the original underwriter wouldn't cover my Gilera and it had to go for cancel and requote. The call to get the requote took just over an hour. None of that was being on hold.

I did call back again to take up the quote as cancelling with them and taking out cover elsewhere was gonna cost me about £60 more. However when I called to take up the new quote and cancel the old policy the bloke seemed to be taking out the new policy without cancelling the old one. When I mentioned this the third time, he said he'd have to put me on hold to get some advice from his manager.

At this point I hung up and rang back to customer services and just cancelled.

By contrast Hagerty were spot on, on the phone less than 10min in total to discuss 2 bikes and a list of modifications and cover the Vespa, I will go with Hagerty for the Gilera when it's finished in 2027.

I don't know if it's a coincidence, but every person I spoke to at Carole Nash's had a very thick Nigerian/West African accent. Obviously this in itself is no problem at all but I do wonder if they have outsourced their call centre there?

Anyway, avoid to fuck.

Yep, totally outsourced, happened when it got sold from original 'carol nash' owner some years back. Same has happened to a lot of trusted and well known insurance brands.

Insurance is now a pot luck as to if you find a good company or a bunch or 'computer says no' incompetents.

Taken the little GS to work a couple if times now, hope to take it all this week as it's going to be nice 🤞 It's so lovely to feel confident on a bike, @Sir Chocolate Teapot don't worry about the transition from the Sprint. She is performing perfectly well and it is nice to be relaxed coming up to junctions and bends again. The little 125 is perfect for the roads I use to get to work. As much as I loved the Sprint I was never fully relaxed on it. Here she is with the GT, I do believe I am quite lucky with these two. I love the styling and the simplicity of them both.

My wife is doing her full bike test, she's practiced for mod1 on a direct access bike but isn't happy with the weight of the bikes for the pushing it around bit so may just do A2 instead.

Can anyone suggest a good A2 bike we could look at for her? From a quick search she likes the look of this Honda Rebel, which is available as a 300 in some markets but only as a 500 in the UK which is A2 power but not really any lighter than an SV650 or whatever they've been practicing on.

Can anyone suggest something else that looks a bit like this but has a 250-400 sort of engine size?
