The Toyota Carina of industrial sewing machines, a Brother DB2-B755-3, my old Singer wouldn't fire up when needed a few years ago so I spazzed a monkey on it because I'm stupid and it's a nice low mileage example, it's beige, has a knee pad thing for lifting the foot, a reverse lever and a sump pan and oil pump for engineering respectz. I then struggled to use it as it's way, way, way too fast for me, only need the use of one once in a blue moon so lacking mad skills and nimble digits. I did look into this speed issue and found smaller motor pulleys are available but didn't get my arse round to it, instead fixed the old Singer, only needed a starter capacitor, the little shit was hidden in the switch box rather than on the motor where one might expect.

Complete with instruction manual and comprehensive toolkit.

Just plop-holstered this, tried both machines, confirmed beyond doubt the Brother is rather frantic going, like trying to patch a Datsun with all the mig settings turned up to eleven, ballsed up a tenners worth of vinyl trying to keep up before switching to the Singer for a relaxed and lackadaisical pace.

So I shall keep this old donk, it's cranky, it rumbles, has a stretched and worn leather drive belt but suits me.

WANTED

Remember how my Lexus LS400 had a SARS spare wheel in the boot because of a water leak?

Well the Lolvo's boot upholstery experienced some kind of spillage prior to my buying it. It smelled like milk/yoghurt/something-with-fat-and-dairy-in-it went everywhere and wasn't cleaned immediately or even for a few days, and this was long enough for bacteria to get buried into the upholstery.

It just smelled dodgy at first but I noticed a week ago that mould was growing on the boot upholstery that covers the spare wheel and battery etc. So I removed it and sprayed it liberally with anti-bacteria/Vanish 1001 stuff, and then SnrYoof decided to utterly blitz it with the pressure washer he bought himself for Christmas.

We let this dry out in his green-house, and when I went to retrieve it it didn't smell as bad. But just one day inside the car and the whole car had major STANK, so I removed it again and it's now doing some additional drying in my green-house.

Only today I went in there and nearly gagged myself in half. The smell is putrid, and mould is happily festering away again on the underside.

SO YEAH. Fuck whoever decided to not clean it properly.

Anyway, my WANTED is essentially knowledge. I'm after a replacement part - I want "new" boot upholstery, which looks like it does in this Gumtree ad: https://www.gumtree.com/p/car-replacement-parts/volvo-s60-boot-carpet-in-excellent-condition/1146986096

Spending money isn't the issue, and I'm happy to go on a little road-trip to get something, but I'm not travelling to Manchester from Northants nor am I going to try and negotiate a courier.

It would simply be handier to know of someone (a business or individual) who is breaking a Volvo S60, or who breaks cars in general that may be able to assist me.

Can anyone halp rid me of bootAIDS?

Posted

Take it out the boot, pressure wash it. Poke a hole in a corner (not right on the corner) and hang it from a nail. Spray cleaner stuff on, scrub with a stiff brush. Rinse with the pressure washer.

Wet vac off/dry it out, give it a good hoover and refit.

I'm desperately trying to find a reasonably priced copy of Daniel Lockton's book'Rebel without applause: Reliant from inception to Zenith'

Would happily pay around £50-60 for a good copy. Long shot I know, but if shiters could keep their eyes peeled for me I'd appreciate it!

Just scored the last new copy from the publisher for £70, along with various other good books for far less than market value. Merry Christmas to me

Or a ZX(they all use the same calipers)

Only Volcane models

Very few left

If I found a Volcane i'd keep that and bin the 306 off, something damn sexy about a 3 door zx

You can get 5door Volcanoes but I admit that it's be a shame to break any ZX to keep a 306 on the road.I've had two of each. The 306 is a great car but didn't gel with me like the ZXs even though both 306s were HDi and both ZXs were just 1.9 N/A.
