Shite in Miniature II

Swung by the market this morning, in the off-chance Larry with the Charity Stall still had his tat boxes from last week.

And, happily, he did.

Some stuff had gone in the interim, but there were also some fresh items too.

image.jpg.b6d591b5e48b090e4c8cf9ea6d6d1d62.jpg

Corgi Charlie's Angels van was missing its back doors; tinplate 1920s tourer was in a bit of a state.

IMG_20260508_0823222.jpg.db97ec36aef914154b141dfccc82cf7b.jpg

'Ford A' taxi had no maker, was missing various bits and was encrusted in glue.

IMG_20260508_0823182.jpg.88a2860051559597f71f58853c7665a4.jpg

Norev Citroen 15CV had received the same unhappy Dremel treatment as that H-Type van on the stall a few weeks back.

image.jpg.dce47d1965d9189c01b5a70019b6d8ac.jpg

Only when looking through the pics again to resize did I realise the detached bootlid was also in the box.

Big F1 thing at the top is by Politoys.

Milk float looked like someone had started a restoration, then abandoned it.

Some more oldies since last week:

image.jpg.e2f6f5f9e354f77faa52280c7e42ba31.jpg

Not much was in great nick - but then, at this price point, do we expect much?

image.jpg.95e1f561ed5cbaa3c8f375da0495f7ab.jpg

Lesney King Size Scammel log trucks in regular and speed wheels variants; is that one of the plastic logs under the pink one? Other than a missing grille, it was otherwise complete.

US Mail vans are by Tootsietoy.

This Majorette trailer made me smile, for some reason:

This is another incomplete no-name Chinese effort - Warzawa 223, which I believe was what FSO were churning out before Fiat became involved:

Obligatory Lone Star dune buggy:

Yes, I did make a few purchases...

Colin had some new stuff in too:

image.jpg.10e954cd32e9a4fe1f0f54d98a2268e4.jpg

Not familiar with this particular Matchbox European set - probably another Walmart or Target exclusive set, finally filtering down to us as overstock via Chinese distributors.

1/43 stuff was appealing too - apparently he's a lot more of these in the van, for the travelling markets.

image.jpg.1c942b8addfda98efa02959db13d0e1a.jpg

Couldn't hang around for too long today though!

Purchases, coffee, then off out into the slightly damp morning.

I couldn't leave the old stuff, even if it's a little bit on the patinated side.

IMG_20260508_0929162.jpg.09ded9cda8800a1f80d8b5992e261cd4.jpg

Corgi Thunderbird has been enthusiastically, if not quite competently, refinished.

IMG_20260508_0929232.jpg.8b2712a7811ab355f91f22d875d17b9b.jpg

Despite evidence of yellow and orange paint dabs, it seems this was originally green when new.

IMG_20260508_0929312.jpg.64fe8774fd375a9a3cb803c763ba52f1.jpg

One white tyre, two black tyres.

Corgi Mercedes 600 Pullman has had a less-than glittering time of it:

IMG_20260508_0928352.jpg.9e3d7ab3b5f54d0b5a812158c10bac0c.jpg

Not utterly wrecked, as it still has its lowering rear windows and the wiper mechanism still functions perfectly, but it's cosmetically rough.

IMG_20260508_0928402.jpg.4419cfc7fabd0a6054f4eef3316c4750.jpg

Brave restoration?

IMG_20260508_0928472.jpg.aaa2d2291784ad41d247c857deb02983.jpg

Rounding up Corgi Corner, here's a Triumph TR3 which was probably the best of the bunch:

IMG_20260508_0929382.jpg.e70fc2136b79eff58ae9d720c082e859.jpg

Worn, but not trashed.

IMG_20260508_0929442.jpg.719a76306cef44bd2a03b9ac98efa541.jpg

Windscreen and steering wheel have gone missing, also a tyre - but it's still got a lot to like here.

IMG_20260508_0929552.jpg.1f99c1bf39e6a215971a2d2ff0a9b4af.jpg

Tinplate base and smooth hubs mark this out as an early Corgi.

Dinky Nash Rambler wagon has had a minor tragedy with its A-posts:

IMG_20260508_0928562.jpg.58f90b837066c6b7abb026934bd9802b.jpg

Though isn't utterly dreadful elsewhere.

IMG_20260508_0929012.jpg.f8d0a4312915950c4d26001a9c8d1a6a.jpg

Bit of a ding to the base, but this might clean up with a bit of work:

IMG_20260508_0929082.jpg.168199309646f04f09f36fbd69f8785d.jpg

At 50p each, this was really more of a rescue mission than things I fancy for myself - so these will all need a new home.

Dunno if there's anything here that tickles @eddyramrod's fancy? Will give you first dibs if so!

Some newer stuff was also picked up.

I was pleased that this black Corgi Juniors Range Rover open top was still here from last week:

IMG_20260508_0930432.jpg.5ccb5d99aab1f85a07d61172cd35e102.jpg

I was aware of this casting in burgundy as part of the James Bond 'Octopussy' set, combined with a very large horse trailer and a very small aircraft:

CORGI-JUNIORS-OCTOPUSSY-JAMES-BOND-007-RANGE-ROVER-HORSEBOX-ACROSTAR-MODEL-SET-174432928641_1200x1261.jpg.42655dd03d43b255ca54435e1a5d19cd.jpg

I wasn't aware of it in this black and silver version, and indeed probably would have remained ignorant had @bunglebus not highlighted it in last week's photo dump.

IMG_20260508_0930482.jpg.8d09bf4bba5a559c759c4872bff75651.jpg

It's not in bad condition, though the tow hitch has been chewed slightly.

IMG_20260508_0930542.jpg.e4bd0cc306130d62ebf6538082acfaed.jpg

Melted-over axle retainers, just like the Matra Rancho of the same era, make me wonder if this one was also made in Mettoy's Northampton factory rather than Swansea.

Either way - it's yours if you fancy it, Rich!

Also, this Lone Star buggy:

IMG_20260508_0931412.jpg.66d89c426921c761870555851663c279.jpg

IMG_20260508_0931462.jpg.f208cfd4aaf95a618dcf04cb13e01158.jpg

image.jpg.04db8d98e2eecfe857db06ee18b0cbae.jpg

I know there's almost an infinite number of variations on these, but again - I'll give Bunglebus first refusal before offering it out to anyone who fancies it.

This Corgi Hot Rod Custom Van had attracted notice last week too:

IMG_20260508_0930062.jpg.91ee54e4dac4989147a18f14d301de4b.jpg

IMG_20260508_0930112.jpg.4eef58232840b1b7e0d03d72d4962b59.jpg

More grimy than knackered.

IMG_20260508_0930162.jpg.7802bc48f7003a238414c39f85dff887.jpg

Any interest, at 50p?

Lastly, the Siku BMW 6 Series:

IMG_20260508_0930232.jpg.5fca927d8600e7b813e898407f61e516.jpg

So annoying that a door's gone AWOL here.

IMG_20260508_0930272.jpg.68c5a123fb7d6dde50ee431ba4438ed2.jpg

Glazing is good though, so maybe useful for parts to help others live?

IMG_20260508_0930332.jpg.14ca56ed428947e012e57ae37456f234.jpg

50p takes it.

Kadett GTE looks really nice with front and sides detailed; Datsun Sunny rally is one I've mulled over for a long time but finally caved today, at £5.

It's been a while since there's been much to get excited about at the market!

IMG_20260508_0936052.jpg.a5fd4d9df8ceb1f8fad9d879c0217b6e.jpg

The cinnamon scroll wasn't bad, either.

Right, I've got a Corolla needing an MOT retest, so I'd better scarper...

If you see that Majorette trailer again on a future visit I'd give it a home, will go with a tractor unit looking for a load.

Seeing @Datsuncog's Rambler above, has reminded me that I'd like to ask the collective hivemind a vaguely related question.

I'm on the lookout for a Dinky Toys Hong Kong issue of the Rambler Classic, as in the photo below. Has anyone on here got one which they'd like to trade or sell?

Yes please, all of them.  I can deal with the damage on the Rambler, you'll love the "After" pics.  Maybe not  so much when you see the Merc finished though...  Thank you so much for thinking of me!

Best of luck finding one of those! They seem to be one of, if not the most difficult to find of the HK Dinky six.
A couple of years back I spotted a good one still with the tailgate on eBay and put a bid on it. Some shit stain sniped me at the last second though!

I think the only HK Dinky I’ve still got is the Riviera.

Little bulldozer is for my Anderson project; they liked tracked vehicles on those shows!  You may recognise the dashtop of the Cresta, this being Wednesday when I was out with the car all day :)

Now: for the first time in a good six months, there has been work outside!

100_3433.JPG.9fd357132a97584482db188c22031222.JPG

Pale blue: the Dinky Impala is going to be a Southport NC unit so there will be some darker blue going on later.

100_3434.JPG.1ee17140c7182c064b5642d3f314b68e.JPG

White: I think all of these are going to be two-toned, but what colours will appear remains to be seen.

100_3435.JPG.6fdc5808b077e76f5405b3a7660824e5.JPG

Ford Roman Bronze: I've previously painted both the Rover and the Zodiac, in this colour, but both needed a further coat (and have sat all winter waiting for it).  I finished the can too.  In the background you can see there has also been some filler work happening.  I'll unveil the cars as they emerge from painting.

A bit of a bumper diecast day today. Popped into Smyths again as the Mrs wanted to look in Home Bargains, and the pegs were full again despite only being in there yesterday.

Starting with mainlines, I think this is case J, and an oddity - this one is a luggage tag using part of the card you cut out

Well, the Rockin' Rolla passed its MOT retest alright this afternoon.

image.jpg.8c8fae3cc740420030e784ab3cf3bebb.jpg

Which was a relief, since the Avensis went and failed its test on Tuesday. 🙃

In a slight delirium after this morning's market finds and the fresh pass sheet, I went shopping...

First to Smyths:

image.jpg.c00bdb861f9cd4c15a88fb7329818029.jpg

No new HW Premiums or Silverlines; no new mainlines either, come to that.

image.jpg.2529587696789788e6f2fe47a0b48ad1.jpg

But SO MANY of these Mod Rods and Topolinos still unsold from the Vintage Club 'barn find' set - three whole pegs consisting of nothing but these two castings.

Hopefully they'll end up on clearance soon, and make way for something else.

But they did still have a couple of releases worth having - the Datsun Bluebird from the Rally Racers set, and the Ford Galaxie from the recent Vintage Club set:

Ah well, pleased enough with these.

I've honestly tried to rein in my Vinted and eBay buys, but I think the bank holiday Monday caused a backlog and a few* things all turned up at once. I spotted this the other day, having never seen a white one before. Sadly it looks like it would be a good fit for the mismatched panel thread going by the doors

Is that a transit crewcabs beaver tail? Any info, make etc?

That's certainly what it is, yes.  I didn't look at it very closely, just snapped it up, but when I smuggle it in I'll have a better look and let you know the rest.

Lastly, a tidy Matchbox Chevy Stocker

That plastique Trummy is cool! I was just sat browsing through eBay and spotted it with the others and it really stood out as being a bit different. Aside from the poo particles and other grime it actually seems to be in really good condition.

What was the beige Jeep that was in that lot? I can vaguely remember having something similar many years back.

I also called into B&M, who seem to be going backwards with their diecast - all the way back to 2023/24

Apparently I was on something of a spending roll, so picked these three doubles up for my nieces - they got the Matchbox Action Drivers airport set at Easter, so the cargo truck will go nicely with that. I think they'll dig the other two as well.

[Side note - I've worked out that if everyone on this thread buy only a thousand of these cargo trucks each, we can finally get them out of the shops and make room for some decent stuff. I've bought three so far! ]

Last stop on today's diecast trail was Poundland, which also had nothing new, tragically - but, in the spirit of trying to clear some space for new stock, I picked up these two that I've been dithering about for a few months now:

I could have gone on, but I think it's been a productive enough day...

That was a Bburago that did not survive the journey

Bugger! Still, at least it wasn’t the Trummy that got smashed.

I've had a productive Taturday too. The weather's good and I was at a loose end so I took a wander down the market. It can be very hit and miss and I either end up buying nothing or loads of stuff, but today was a good day and I scooped up this little lot from three different stalls for the princely sum of £11.50.

The Oxford Volvo truck is worth more than my total spend by itself. We also have five of the good old Corgi trucks from the eighties, a Lesney Bedford ambulance (missing its back doors as always), a Hornby Sierra just to remind me how utterly terrible they are, a Spanish police Cararama Range Rover (how did that get over here?), a Kentoys Ford pickup, half a dozen Kinder Surprise Smart cars, a Majorette Mercedes T2, and the Thames Trader is the most intriguing. It's a no-name plastic Honk Konk toy that comparing with the EFE model is just about 1/76 scale and I think is what Marquis Models based their white metal cab on.

These are Palitoy but the base is actually branded Tomy, not investigated the link yet.

I know a bit.  Palitoy was owned by General Mills USA at the time. The Bradgate name was created as the import/export department for the Leicester factory and distributed from there, alongside Action Man etc

Push the button on the top and it should play back four random voices and the worst cat-being-strangled groan you have ever heard.

The sounds are from a mechanical contraption, not an electronic circuit. The recordings are on a small disc inside that is read by a needle, not unlike a mini record player

I hope you get it working.  I gave up on mine, the sound box was properly fragile inside and made me just scream the words “QUICK FOLLOW THAT CAR” myself instead.

All that is left at the Coalville factory is this

Serves them right for importing that cat groan noise to my ears.

This arrived today, a gap filled in the occasional '80s/'90s hot hatch series.

I get the feeling modern 1/43 stuff isn't that popular on here, but it's a fairly unusual subject. Ixo have done standard pov spec versions of the Uno and the batshit crazy Brazilian Uno EF for various  partwork series, but this is a nice standard version of the Turbo i.e.

My parents had an Uno 60S back in 1986 and as an avid car magazine reader back then, it blew my mind that an Uno that looked largely similar to theirs could do 125 mph. That was seriously rapid for a shopping car back then.

This Ixo version is a very nicely done model, with some nice detailing,

Including the side stripes and logos,

And tiny Abarth logos on the wheels.

You do you, I like that there's a mix of all different types of small shite on here. I'm sure not everyone gets my excitement about awful Hong Kong efforts, but they please me and it's nice to know at least one other person gets it!
