Shite in Miniature II

Anyone remember Days Gone Vanguards? They were the precursor to the proper Vanguards around 1994/95 and were basically a sub-brand for Days Gone models of fifties and sixties vehicles. Some of the initial Vanguards castings like the Mini, VW Beetle and Moggie van/Traveller started life in this series before being upgraded into the new range a year or so later.

Some optimist on Amazon wants 20 quid for this one photographed with a potato.

That’s the traveller I’ve got but mines green. I got mine off @eddyramrod!

I actually really like it!! Wheels aren’t the best nowadays but the rest looks good.

A lot of Lledo models are let down by the wheels, skinny things designed for pre-war vehicles but used on almost everything - they even did modern trucks with these wheels, which look ridiculous. The casting is very good and captures the difficult shape of the Moggie well. I had one and bizarrely it was painted lilac like the Minor Millions.

Toyfair buys  with @bunglebus this morning,  it first a few gratuitous  shots - seemed to be a lot of railway today too.

Anyone fancy this?
1:24 scale Mini Cooper. I’ve had it a while now but never opened it. I’m more into smaller 1:43 stuff to be honest.

I remember those! I'm sure I had a Morris LD van which was quite a decent wee casting.

I didn't take too many pictures at the toy fair, I was a bit stressed thinking about work and also spotting the VW nemesis in before the general public, no doubt scooping up all the best finds

This cheered me up though, the one thing I remember playing with that wasn't car related was Britains Space. Quite short lived and not very popular, I had absolutely loads of it

I've not got the Dinky Merc Pullman. It's huge compared to the Corgi - very strange how sometimes two toy companies decided to model the same obscure vehicle, see also Corgi/Matchbox Studebaker Wagonaires

So what did I get today? Well for a paltry £1 the Matchbox P1800 and £3 for the delicate matchbox cortina, both off the same dealer. Somehow the Volvo has past me by?

Then possibly spurred on by @MiniMinorMk3 £4 bought me this battered box Herpa 1/43 S Klasse in outrageous bright red (says the man who ordered a bright red Mercedes)  which really is a lovely thing and has never been out the box as I cut the sellotape holding it together! I think I will keep an eye out for these big Herpa’s in future.

Lastly on the £3 table is the Autoart Shogun I’ve been watching on his stall since lockdown it gets cheaper everytime 😂

Box battered, but I was taking a gamble at rock bottom prices!

Toy/train fair up at Norwich next Saturday. Will probably give it a go.

In the meantime, visited this place in Evesham yesterday:

image.png.e74c7df6495d52aafc257ba7e6ad7691.png

Not the Job Centre, but this interesting shop just here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/nYAojLb9Xo7fpQcy9

Decent toy shop on the ground floor, I got a few things that I'm not allowed to possess until my brthday in a few days. Some older/secondhand stuff on the first floor, though nothing that I wanted.

Zero finds at Tesco stores to/from Evesham. Buckingham has the smallest toy department I have ever seen anywhere.

Those Herpa boxes are not usually taped, and the missing 3-pointed star on the bonnet would suggest it has been aired before. Still a good find at £4. And the AutoArt at three was a steel.

A while back I got one of those 1:43 AEC Regent double decker’s. I’d been looking at them for a while but decided eventually to get one. Lovely models but the quality control wasn’t too hot on the day mine was made!
Loads of the little detail parts were loose in the blister box the model comes in and when I took it out of the box the grill had been glued on wonky!

Today I took it down the shed and opened it up to put all the bits back on and straighten the grill out.

Being a 1:43 it’s a big old thing. Really looks good though.
I wish there were more 1:43 bus models available of British buses. Trucks aren’t particularly well represented either but but there’s virtually no buses in that scale. Even something comparatively common and popular like a London Transport Routemaster would be nice.

How should i value this collection of HERPA models please, they are in a flimsy plastic 'shop display' case so they are not dusty and have been kept out of direct sunlight.  NO boxes.   Thanks.

I would say if you entered that into an auction it would have an estimate of £40-£60.

You can just see a black Corgi 944, issued late 80's/early 90's as a Mobil promotional, yet packaged in the black/yellow/orange box, phased out around the time Corgi hit the wall in 1983. So I think you're right to be sceptical....

Even more incongruous is the white Mobil 205 T16 in one of those boxes, from @andrew e's post! They may have been priced accordingly as interesting yet inaccurate bitsas, but I'm guessing the 911 wasn't.

Buckingham is a wasteland when it comes to toy cars. There are no toy/model shops and that Tesco is about the only place that sells new toys. The many charity shops never seem to have anything either and the only hope is occasionally finding something interesting among the mountains of Days Gone and battered Chinese rubbish on the Saturday flea market.

I've done a few transporters recently, spare TK cab i did in the wrong red haha!

IMG_9133.JPG.69853922cc680ecfd47f031d681a7b1a.JPG

Corgi Mini pickup has had a setback as after primer I noticed some reaction and had to flat it down and re primer

IMG_9127.JPG.3890877a45992d9c1a72cb2f2b532d5e.JPG

It all looked good, but when i applied the top coat

IMG_9131.JPG.e0ccdaa3d37d6a6117dbfbd89fe01719.JPG

another reaction in various places

IMG_9132.JPG.13f359e0818043c6f7ebd2e31143f2bd.JPG

so now has been carefully stripped off again

IMG_9162.JPG.7b55bfadfb4b2d6f3953c5fe70329e94.JPG

fingers crossed for next attempt!

Those transporters you’ve done look lovely. Great colour combo’s on them.

I had a similar reaction on one of mine a while ago, but on a newer casting. Absolutely no idea how or what caused it but I had to do the same as you, and bare metal it again. I wasn’t taking any chances the second time so I poured some automotive silicone remover panel wipe over it before priming! It worked.

I had some panel wipes, but they dried out so I've washed it in washing up liquid and dried it on a radiator without touching it. It has several parts made from plasticard and some from car filler so need to be a bit careful as well.

It's been a bit hectic for me today, so this is the first chance I've had to post up today's finds.

Starting with the elephant in the room, this;

PXL_20240407_124804249 PXL_20240407_124743802

Just to give you an idea of scale, a Lone Star

PXL_20240407_124651442 PXL_20240407_124605783

It cost way too much money, it's too big for my collection but man it's cool! I need to stop giving in to peer pressure...

Regular seller had a box full of Moving Parts at two for £8.00

PXL_20240407_123522204.PORTRAIT.ORIGINAL PXL_20240407_123549684.PORTRAIT.ORIGINAL

Staying with boxed stuff, just a single pound for a Corgi FX4

PXL_20240407_123501397.PORTRAIT.ORIGINAL

These two boxes came back from France via @andrew e. I'm impressed with the effort Welly have put in, they used to be a very average brand

OK it gets weird for a while here. Original Bandai GoBot

PXL_20240407_123245173

Jimson...Toyota?

PXL_20240407_123216362 PXL_20240407_123221157

Also Jimson, and kinda just making up the numbers in a two for £5 deal. I like it though

PXL_20240407_123147951

Tootsietoys Gremlin

PXL_20240407_123122298 PXL_20240407_123127579

Argo "Vantastic"

PXL_20240407_123022138 PXL_20240407_123026848

OK normality has resumed. I thought @FakeConcern might like this Corgi caravan, despite the tow hitch being broken

PXL_20240407_122900738 PXL_20240407_122926041 PXL_20240407_122915691 PXL_20240407_122931717

£2.00 if so!

Another one sort of making up the numbers, this Fiat is a nicely done repaint

PXL_20240407_122614414 PXL_20240407_122625618

This was the one I wanted at a bargain price though - Karmann Ghia is already apart and in the paint stripper

PXL_20240407_122540641

I was probably too hasty buying this Shovel Nose, but the stickers caught my attention - they looked like larger versions of those found on the Superfast Dodge Dragster. Having had a measure up, they are actually the same size, so either someone at the factory was having a bit of fun, or some stickers escaped and found their way onto the sides afterwards

PXL_20240407_122442284

Oh look, it's another Big MX. In very nice condition too

PXL_20240407_122406968 PXL_20240407_122339095

Also in nice condition is this Lesney Ferrari Berlinetta

PXL_20240407_121822707

Yet another variant of the Field Car, and I still have lots to find

PXL_20240407_121710729

Who can resist a Wagonaire?

PXL_20240407_121736104

I've not seen the Superfast Capri in orange before

PXL_20240407_121315396

Chop Suey

PXL_20240407_121109491

Glow windows Cortina is one I'd not previously tracked down

PXL_20240407_121037533

Glow test - passed!

PXL_20240407_121402579.NIGHT

Despite appearances, the doors on this 260Z don't open

PXL_20240407_120931029

Yet another Chav, so one will be up for grabs in the future

PXL_20240407_120753439

There were two Matchbox P1800s up for grabs today - I bought the other. Need to line this up with the Hot Wheels Ain't No Saint gasser

PXL_20240407_120700657

Picked up Herbie at the boot sale for 75p. Saw a tattier one for £5 at the toy fair

PXL_20240407_120220168

Maybe an even better deal was this for 20p, that the mrs found at the later boot sale

PXL_20240407_120052147

In the middle of that price range was this for 50p

I use white spirit sometimes to degrease these models with, which seems to work. Although someone once told me white spirit isn’t the best to use for that. Can’t remember why though.

Corgi did release some 911 Polizei cars with Red Spots, but the promo storey is fiction.

Vectis have had 5 pass through their sale rooms in the last 15 years. The asking price has dropped over time.

@bunglebus you got some bargains there and Mrs Concern says yes please to the Corgi caravan as it's in a colour she doesn't have. I think you may have a box with a couple of things for me from your recent sale, if you'd like me to settle up please PM me or if you have more to come I'll hold on. Actually either way if you want me to send funds now let me know and thanks for the c ararvan.

By the way I forgot about this I saw in a newly opened junk shop in Lewes...

Remember them? I think I bought some yesterday!

Went to a Carboot in Leighton Buzzard and this lot came as bundle for a Fiver.  Really wanted the Lesney DS and I quite like thatMGB and Birds Eye Thames.  The Wagonaire is the only non-Ambulance one I’ve got , Not sure about the Morris and Austin vans. The rest can do one, if anybody wants them for price of postage, let me know.

There was a stall that had 4 quite nice Lesney trucks and an early Corgi Mini, on asking about the price of the Mini, the very aggressive seller said: “£100 the lot I know what they’re worth!” My wife congratulated me on my restraint , after I smiled and walked away .pl
