Went to a Carboot in Leighton Buzzard and this lot came as bundle for a Fiver.  Really wanted the Lesney DS and I quite like thatMGB and Birds Eye Thames.  The Wagonaire is the only non-Ambulance one I’ve got , Not sure about the Morris and Austin vans. The rest can do one, if anybody wants them for price of postage, let me know.

There was a stall that had 4 quite nice Lesney trucks and an early Corgi Mini, on asking about the price of the Mini, the very aggressive seller said: “£100 the lot I know what they’re worth!” My wife congratulated me on my restraint , after I smiled and walked away .pl

Those are early proper Vanguards as they have decent wheels and a bit more detail. The Moggie van is one of the castings that started out as a Days Gone Vanguard though. I'd forgotten about the 1/64 Vanguards trucks; I don't think they were very popular as 1/64 is an odd scale and didn't continue under Corgi ownership except in the occasional twin pack with a Corgi Superhaulers modern truck.

Wet Monday lunchtime.

Managed to leave my sandwich behind in the fridge this morning, so nipped out to grab a free* sandwich from Boots before their fridges were utterly stripped by the other office locusts.

Which took me past Cash Converters...

IMG_20240408_1342532.jpg.c4cb2705c818a9510e1e0b44525fc402.jpg

Oh, hullo.

IMG_20240408_1342402.jpg.0e151e56c26e45bb452e9d12468e1bc5.jpg

That's quite a lot of (mainly Corgi) trucks from the 1990s and early 2000s in the window there, at a baffling array of differing prices.

Seems to be anything from £8 to £25 for most, with EFE stuff a bit cheaper and the Tekno artics prices mysteriously just out of vision.

Hnnng...

*Free, as in I have an unfeasible amount of Boots Advantage Points accumulated on an ancient battered card that dates back to my Halfords days, and can cash some in for a gratis lunchtime meal deal whenever necessary.

So, I buckled.

IMG_20240408_1547592.jpg.c4c5372f7674216010280437e6ef8bfe.jpg

Seems like buckling's even more of a hobby for me than diecast collecting.

In my defence, I've been after one of these Ergomatic refrigerated artics for nigh-on thirty years now.

IMG_20240408_1548122.jpg.802ce56a03c51053952f9aa82779f820.jpg

I think the Walls was the first one to hit the range, maybe about 1995? It was the first one I remember seeing, and I desired it hugely when I saw it in the catalogue; the sheer size of the thing seemed amazing.

I know the Ferrymasters version was a '96 release.

1996 Corgi Classics Jan Jun.JPG

Or maybe I have them the wrong way round?

I couldn't quite stretch to buying the Walls one on my pocket money (an RRP of £30 sticks in my mind), but I managed to wheeler-dealer my way to the Siddle C. Cook Scammell Highwayman through cunningly swapping three mint boxed early-80s Corgis (Austin Maestro, Chevrolet Caprice racer, VW Polo) - and was instantly smacked with buyer's remorse.

Not only did I get superglue all over it while trying (and failing) to affix the door mirrors, but the trailer turned out to be just the same as the one behind my childhood Michelin Ford Transcontinental.

I later asked for an Ergomatic for Christmas, which came in an Eddie Stobart livery - it was okay, but once I later learned that Corgi's Stobart-liveried Classics range was pure fiction, my ardour cooled somewhat.

As you can imagine, I'd far rather have my Mettoy-era Corgis back...

I'll see how I feel about this Daniel Stewart AEC later, sure - it's probably not a long-term keeper, but it's reassuringly weighty and I'd like to run it up and down the kitchen table for a bit.

And it'll go quite well with the MacBraynes TK from last year, as a kind of Caledonian haulers mini-series...

IMG_20230901_1208442.thumb.jpg.28d41e2b9f91c5f65235edfbee6425ce.jpg

This one, coincidentally, comes with the same plastic container as my Michelin Transcontinental...

Recycling - truly, Corgi were ahead of their time.

£15 was the top end of my impulse price-willingness, for sure - if it was £20, I would have just left it.

Not sure why some tankers were £8 and others which differed only in livery were £18; I presume someone who works there just fires up eBay to get a sense of what each model's sold for recently, and goes from there.

IMG_20240330_1050192.jpg.294afaf73759cc1aa4b51c040dc6b9ab.jpg

I think that's maybe why the current load of recent Matchbox and Hot Wheels are out for £4 on their shelves - despite the fact they're much cheaper to buy in bricks and mortar shops than they are to purchase online.

Not seen a Cossie style Solido Sierra before. Does it still have XR4i on the base. Also I'm guessing it was made in Portugal.

First French made XR4i with gold wheels.

Bloody hell you hit the jackpot.

That blue MB single seater is out of a set and goes for silly money on eBay. Not seen the Golf before either, Hot Wheels Hi Tail Hauler is in excellent condition too. World Class 57 Chevy I think?

Siku Caddy is one I've still never managed to find, and I've not seen that BMW twin pack anywhere in the UK

Apart from a saggy front end("same as the Mrs M8")It's in great shape for something 50 odd years old.

Smoll Eddy approves of them all.

"They can see you coming a mile away M8"

The Team Matchbox you have, IIRC is from a game that did exclusive colours.

We all know these little ambulances, I think...

Many years ago (1984-90) I worked for a local produce wholesaler in Southport, and among the vehicles I drove for them were two T25 diesel pickups, A369 GFV and C279 KCK.  I actually remember the second one arriving in early 86.  Now... I can't think of a readily accessible model in any scale, of the T25 as a single-cab pickup.

So I made my own!  I've been working on these, on-and-off, for several years, entirely from memory.  They are, of course, the ambulance cut down.

The pickup beds are the two halves of a small-scale plastic artic trailer, chopped to length.

Signwriting is by Fineliner pen.  It's not perfect but a damn sight better than I'd be able to do by brush these days.  Those phone numbers were correct, but no longer exist as shown.

Oh that's perfectly simple: the lettering would be too small for me to produce!  The phone numbers were tough enough.

Yeh, well I couldn't manage those phone numbers by hand, I do have a computer and a printer though haha!

So do I!  But how many plates would I need to make to get any value out of an A4 sheet!

Premium Classixxs have done the T25 is single cab configuration in 1/43rd. They have done variations of most T2 and T3 VWs and some T4s. They are/were made in limited numbers so are quite pricey on the second hand market. The quality is very good and the detailing excellent.
