Cars that are shite but never seem to appear FS on here.

So, what I've noticed on the for sale part of the forum, we all seem to favour certain cars. There is pretty much always a 107 for sale for example or a ropey 3 series.

Admittedly there is an element of pass the parcel with cars of many shitters... but some brands/models just never seem to make the for sale section.

Let me begin :

Nissan Almera ...definitely shite, always cheap, basically never spotted on the for sale section.

Dacia is another car brand that is getting down to chod levels in terms of price, but rarely show up.

I think @loserone had an Almera and said it was really, really shit.

Î have a Dacia too.  Not sure it counts as shite yet.

@PSAPerv has a very shite Sandero though.

In reality there can’t be many Almera’s/Matrix/Accent’s left but there are thousands of 107’s and Aygo’s still in circulation, most ‘proper’ shite was fragged 20 years ago.

I see quite a lot of almeras if you go price lowest first on scumtree or eBay or Facebook marketplace.

I had one a few years back and I'd agree it was shit to the point of dangerous. But the price point would/should make it a firm favourite.

Honda Jazz, shirley?

Yeah we seem to get an odd Yaris sort of lean, but the jazz should be more popular than it is for bangernomics. I think they are weirdly expensive to insure though, comparatively

I guess that's why people my sort of age tend to own them then?  ;-)

Fairly certain that someone had an Almera and traded it in for a Kia Picanto.

I believe you're thinking of @ProgRocker and an i10.

There was absolutely nothing redeemable about the Almera, shit to look at, shit inside, shit to drive, chucked the timing out for fun when the chain stretched, rusted like Billy-oh on the backs of the sills. It’s got nothing going for it, you wouldn’t even bother to save the last one. 😂

By what measure could it possibly have been dangerous? They’re no worse than an equivalent Astra etc 🤷‍♂️

It does have a hook for hanging a paper bag full of curry. But I’d take my chances on it falling over and marinating the footwell in masala sauce all things considered.

I spun it out twice and I wasn't even driving it that hard, it was really tail happy, honestly saw my life flash before my eyes after taking a corner that I always took in a civic and a Yaris at 50 left me pointing the wrong way.  It rolled about like a beached seal.

Having driven an Astra they are about a million times better than an Almera.

So it either had shit tyres or knackered suspension? Right.

Haha, but both those things are true of the Yaris and the Civic. Neither of those tried to kill me, are you on commission from nissan to try punt possibly the worst car they ever made.

Edit: for the record it had just had a fresh MOT so the suspension can't have been that shagged and the tyres were actually brands someone had heard of, not Chinese ditch finders, but given that I cubed the car shortly after I can't go find out for you.

As a current employee* of Datsun Nissan, I would like to step in here.

I went on the Almera launch in 2000-ish, somewhere sunny. The chief engineer confirmed to me that the shit 'surf tail' roof had no functional benefit.

In 2011, I owned a 2001 Almera 1.8 5-dr and can say with some confidence that it was an irredeemable piece of shit.

IMHO maybe not dangerous in the handling sense but dangerous because it was so depressing to own, you'd likely top yourself after a few years of ownership.

Interestingly (not) in 2008-ish I had a similar age Primera with same engine and that was ace, they were like chalk and cheese despite sharing quite a few parts and being similar mileage.

I think the problem with some of these cars like the Almera is that there is no one good reason why you’d chose it over a Focus or an Astra.

Nissan Primera, the third generation P12 hatchback 2001-2006/7 did not seem to be common when new but I have not seen one for ages, and not noticed adverts either.  Daewoo are fading away as well, apart from the Matiz, usually held together with structural underseal.  Perhaps it's because I am not looking too hard for either marque. Almeras!!  Ghastly things, and to me they manage to exude complete boredom vibes as well.

The previous generation of Almera was like a shrunken P10 primera and was a good car.  I quite liked it despite it's sewing machine engine.

The n15 which replaced it was shit.  Mine was five years old when it failed it's MOT on a holed cross member (months after I bought it from a dealer) and Nissan wanted nothing to do with it.  I did manage to get rid of it before the cam chain stretched but it didn't make it to ten years old.

Quite a few of them suffered with terminal gearbox issues as well!

Here's my old 2003 Nissan Almera 2.2 dCi SXE owned between 2010 and 2021. It was alright - not as good as the '99 SEAT Ibiza 1.4. Best thing about it was the performance and the 300Nm of torque. Quickest car in the Nissan range at the time until the launch of the 350Z I believe.

A Corolla or Civic would have been a better option. My previous 6 cars have been very slow. Says a lot when my i10 (8th car) is the 2nd fastest car I have owned.

I only got fed up with it when I realised I sunk around £7,000 keeping it going. Iirc @big_al_granvia also owned an N16.

I had a duster dci with fresh mot advertised just under 4 figures for over 4 months dropped it's price twice i that time and eventually swapped it on gumtree for a lexus,  that proved equally awkward to sell after I moted it too and eventually managed a sale at £650,   so after two mots and tyres on lexus I'd have been better of weighing the Dacia in. 🙄

Yeah I remember because I was trying to find a reason to buy the thing, but was 4 cars deep at that point! Should probably have bought it regardless as a cheap entry to Dacia-ing.
