Supernaut Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 I'm starting to think you're this entire forum's lightning rod for bad luck now. Ghosty 1

Aside not having the space, I've already done one engine swap and a head replacement this summer. I absolutely can't be arsed and just want to cash out. The Golf has done nothing but bite me on the arse, I wouldn't replace it with anything sensible per se, just another Civic of some sort or an MX5. Knowing it's HGFd at least twice before I just don't know how much faith I have in it.
Zelandeth Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 That's a rough hand of cards right there. Wouldn't be surprised if someone would take it on though. A small automatic estate that otherwise looks pretty tidy isn't an easy car to find these days so I'd think it would sell easily for a decent enough price running with a year's ticket on it. Have to wonder what happened to that engine though - Head gasket failure then overheated till it just stopped maybe?

The rings are shot too - it looks like it's been dredging up the contents of the sump and scoring the bores. Could have had piston slap... I reckon the timing belt has jumped at some point, too. It's looking pretty likely it'll be rehomed and I'll cash out, as I've already had one person message me on FB tempted to take it on as they have an OBD2 B series lying about that should drop in.
Ghosty Posted August 24, 2024 Author Posted August 24, 2024 In Golf news, new starter has arrived and been fitted - success. However, the car is still trying to self-immolate: I replaced the cork gasket with a rubberised metal one, thinking it'd be better, however the oil is still getting past it and pooling on the manifolds - if anything, it's worse. I'll have to get a cork one and see if it's any better, I think.
bangernomics Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 Get a big tube of black HT silicone. Ive seen entire Opel CIH engines built using that Christine, Rust Collector and Ghosty 1 2
