FoTU 2025 thread - show wrap up

Yeah, I'll be going. Despite the whinging that seems to plague this show it's still one of the best days out going, I'm looking forward to it.

Max Weber had something to say on FoTU

Max Weber's work frequently touched upon the concept of unintended consequences, particularly in the context of social action and historical development. He argued that actions, even those intended to achieve specific goals, often produce outcomes that were not foreseen or desired by the actors involved. This idea is central to understanding his sociological perspective and its application to various social phenomena, including the rise of capitalism and the impact of bureaucracy.

I received this email today, it seems the 'concourse' part has actually gone all pebble beach and they are now judging the cars on condition rather than their back story like previous years?

LOL, I judged this show twice. My Charade G11 was in the very first concours line-up.

Almost all of the original roster is still judging it.

I was not asked again and was given no explanation as to why I could not return.

Sometimes I will attend out of politeness, or if someone I wouldn't get to see otherwise is making the trip up.

I blow hot and cold as to whether I'll go up until the day itself: usually I decide then and there. It's a local show for me.

That's one of the reasons why I get iffy about FoTU and sometimes can't be arsed with it.
If someone tells me that I 'must' take one of my cars to it, I roll my eyes.

There are some things I don't necessarily agree with about FOTU, but I'll be there this year. It's not a "must attend every year" in my calendar, but something I usually do every couple of years. Will take the Capri but could probably get away with the Mondeo too albeit it's a Ghia so maybe not.

My base will be there for balance

I may also have a passenger ticket available as my GF will work on that day.

Would anyone want an unexceptional car and driver ticket for £15? I bought one yesterday and found out my friend had already sorted it out.

This is what my entry looked like yesterday evening. Fingers crossed it'll pass its test tomorrow, front calipers sorted but rears are still sticking a little!

I should be bringing the most miserable Audi you could buy in the late 90s. I will hopefully clean it first.

A 1.6 too. How truly dreary!

Travelling north on the A1 just now near Newark, had a bit of a buoy seeing a 3 door Mk3 Astra in red (fairly sure it was Sam Allan) followed by a 5 door Mk3 Escort in silver. Got me in a good mood thinking about what's to come even if my car doesn't really fit in with the theme.

Last time I went to FOTU, absolutely everyone ignored the Merc completely.  No-one even gave it a second look, and it features in exactly zero YOOTOOB vids.

Does that mean I've won FOTU?  So utterly unremarkable as to be ignored even there.

Sadly will not be there now - not been feeling 100% all week and have been burning the candle at both ends, so I think it's best that I give myself a bit of a rest.

Will be at the event fairly early tomorrow, just staying at a friend and hour away. Infiniti has done great so far.

Mines hopefully already for the 6am start, I've been busy with finishing the final touches, now got a dealer sticker, a RAC badge and Garfield 🤣

Glad I didn't spend too long cleaning given the weather here. About to set off.

It was nice to see a few ‘group’ cars there today. I’m still not feeling particularly sociable so stayed a few hours before hitting the road at the fifteenth cloudburst.

A few highlights from me.

This is exactly the same colour and spec as my first ever car. I’ve never ever ever seen another, ever. Honestly - it made my day.

This preserved Avensis (of the BMM) was perfect. I also had a CDX back in 2001-8 and loved it. What a brilliant example, clearly trailered to the event.

Other highlights? This ‘Hendry Approved’ Mk6 Escort was delightful.

Narrowly beating this wonderful Escort van

And, as you know, if it’s Brown then I’m in.

I think I’ll give it a miss next year unless they change it up (venue, running order, layout etc). I feel like it’s ready for a change.

Hope everyone had a good day.

Had a great day out, the mad rush to get the Polo FOTU ready paid off. Did feel like there was a little bit of a quality/quantity ratio drop this year, but the forecast was shocking and by its very nature there's only so many of this 'genre' of car out there, so that's to be expected.

The highlight of the show was definitely the Samara Cabriolet, just an utterly ridiculous thing that I was supremely happy to see.

Had a great day out, it didn't seem like there was a long queue either this time (although longer than last year). The turnout was excellent despite the brief showers. Nice to have a chat with you @wesacosa and @Skut as well, great to see both the Xedos and Grand Marquis up close and personal!

People really seemed to be intrigued by the Infiniti, too, naturally nobody knowing what it really is! Made a Senator B owner's day when I directed him towards the Omega/Senator knowledge resource on the internet (www.senatorman.de). Someone also brought their manual X300 XJ Sport so had a chat with him about it and how I retrofitted cruise on mine. Plus a really nice guy from the Netherlands who brought his Lancia Kappa and clearly was as obsessed about unusual cars as I am😂

All in all 10/10, will come again next year and bring the next uttlerly obscure car.
