Late registration madness

A Mk1 08 plate Octavia, they facelifted these on a 04 plate so a old shape on a 08 is mega late!, Mega pricey at £7000 as well i think.

That's a lot for what's likely to be a retired minicab! Pretty sure Skode kept importing the gen1 Octavia due to continued demand from the Hackney carriage trade.

Now, of course, there's this:

Not that odd up here; The Taxi Centre (Allied Vehicles maybe?) up here were supplying them as late as 09 IIRC, maybe even later. Theres a whack of 58 plates around here anyway. I shall go digging!

I should also say they're all miserable taxi spec motors with the old 1.9 engine without any fancy nonsense; the Superb and new Octavia weren't liked as PHCs here due to over complexity...

I keep seeing an 03 plate 106 round here which amuses me in a shite way as always thought they were done for in about 1999/2000.

Posted

They were produced until 2004 apparently. Thought they were gone long before then.

Passed an 11-plate Chevy Lacetti 5-door today. London registered, so probably a hire car... didn't know the Amerikoreans were still churning out that shite.

^ Must be one of the last ones. I sold Chevreloos for a short while a couple of years ago. I had to travel from Kent to Weston-super-Mare to visit family twice during that period. Once in the looked better as a Daewoo Aveo and once in a Heather Mills spec Lacetti Estate- Possibly the worst car I've ever had the misfortune to drive. They were cheap cars though, however this just made me LOL from their website

Aveo 5-door from £9,815.00

Get real.

Here's a good one, K-reg Wolseley 16/60.

"I am not leaving this showroom until you show me something more respectable than this blasted Marina, damn your eyes!"

"I'm terribly sorry sir, I think we may just have something round the back...."

If you look on howmanyleft website it shows first reg years on the cars and there were 5 rover 75's registered new last year !

When did Peugeot phase out the 206? Passed two 09-plates today which seems quite unusual - one Glasgow registered, the other Manchester plated.

They also came with the check engine light permanently on and a funny knocking noise from the back as standard fit (joke copywrite Sniff Petrol)

S'funny that, we've been using the new shape Superbs as PHC's for a couple of years. We've had probably 150 of them, and so far, no mechanical problems other than very early ones suffered from leaky water pumps which were sorted under warranty.

I've done about 70k in new Superbs and never had a problem more serious than a couple of whining wheel bearings.

The 2.0 is a lot smoother, quicker, quieter and more refined than the old 1.9, but the 1.9 is slightly better on fuel.

More problems with the last of the old shape than the new ones. Octavias feel tired quickly though.

Strange; the boss's brother runs taxis and won't touch Superbs for some reason, just stating that they're not as good as the Octavia. New Octavias are rare, and most of the Superbs that were running have been replaced by all sorts of oddments including about half a dozen current shape Laguna DCis.

Saw a W-Plate XM today on the A23. I stupidly didn't make a note of the reg, so I look like a dirty liar.

I've just remebered, this afternoon i saw a BRG "N" reg Rover Metro in the 1992 spec pre facelift shape, N seemed pretty late to me as i thought they had gone over to the 100 range by then?.

Posted

Maybe it was damaged in an accident and repaired using earlier parts?

Posted

It had the earlier rear lights as well, basically the same as this but in BRG, It was being driving by a bloke with his wife in their late 50's so i couldn't get a photo.

A "1977 R reg" Triumph Herald estate.

The commission number carries a GB prefix, this series was unique to Heralds intended for export

Can't argue with logic like that :)

I've seen a load of Heralds with that grille over here. Seems it was used freely on export models. On the home market it was restricted to the 12/50 model (which confusingly was 1147cc). Both the Heralds we had when I was learning to drive were the 12/50.

There's a C-plate Reliant Scimitar near me, must be one of the last?

I know in the late 90s there used to be a Cortina 2.0GLS on an A plate in my old home village of Kippax. It was that pale green met, with a black vinyl roof.
