Mrs R has been full of cold for nearly two weeks now, since about the time mine went. So she's in bed today and my day out is postponed.....

On the bright side, 1) I'm off work today as planned, and 2) not having to go out in my silencer-deficient Pug means not getting pulled over by the Law. It'll be getting fixed tomorrow.

Ebay seller is really pissing me off now. WHERE'S MY FUCKING STEERING WHEEL?

Bloke buying my Amazon Moto Lita has decided to bail on buying it. 'It's not as nice as it should be for the money'.

Enterprise have managed to fuck up the rental of a van that I need on Thursday. Despite me telling them at least five times I needed their van for Thursday, they've decided to book it for the following Thursday instead.

NO, NO, NO YOU STUPID FUCKWITS. WHAT FUCKING USE IS A FUCKING VAN TO ME NEXT FUCKING THURSDAY? I DIDN'T FUCKING ASK FOR THE FUCKING VAN FOR NEXT THURSDAY, I WANTED IT THIS FUCKING THURSDAY. THATS WHY I BOOKED IT FOR TWO DAYS TIME.

Want to borrow the BX next Thursday, it's like an Enterprise van in many ways and I know how much you loved driving it the last time.

Why did you book with Enterprise, Jon? Surely you'd be better booking with a company not run by brainwashed droids.

Aren't the adverts enough to put you off? "It's got a 'U' in it." FUCKING HELL.

A very good point. I only tried because my usual place now want a £300 deposit and that would set alarm bells off at Westminster Wank \ RBS.

TBH I'll see what they can do tomorrow. I'm slowly working through all the things I have backlogged. I am still numb from the funeral and other idiotic gibberings from Uni folk, and work, and all the shit that's occurring there.

The fact they can't even get a date right is worrying me a bit.

WHEEL UPDATE:

List Mota Lita wheel on VOC. Can you guess what's happened?

Bloke says it's too expensive and that he can get a new one with a boss for £160 from M-L direct. I've called bullshit on this and specced that wheel to the same point as the one I'm selling, that I'll take £170 for if someone really wants it. I've asked him for the link, weirdly he can't find it.

I use enterprise to hire vans all the time, they can usually get one within 24 hours no problem. Did you book online? That't the best way to do it, much less chance of any goof ups!

Oh yeah, be prepared for staff who are far too familiar with you "how is you day sir? can I get you a drink of water? we love you sir" e.t.c. and best of all "Hello again Mr xxxx" even when it's the first time you've set foot in there.

I used Enterprise once... the guy picking me up was a cock, spent the whole trip trying to buy a Corrado off me I wasn't selling, then some girl manager in the making barged up once I was there asking what the cause of the accident I'd had in my car was?

1. I'd not crash my car it was just knackered and I needed to get to work.

2. if I had crashed MY car then I'd wager it's non of her bleeding business what the reason was.

Yes, probably. They do accident management and direct billing to insurers. Would probably have been able to quadruple the rental rate and earn a butty for referral to an ambulance chaser.

"I was spreadeagled over the bonnet at a well-known dogging spot when this newby arrived and ploughed into the car...I've got a stiff neck AND have difficulty going to the loo as a result...Oh, the car? McLaren picked it up for repair this morning!"

I'd love to see what she made of something like that!

Nice avatar, M'coli - one of the few reasons I still go on facebook, and that particular one had me rupturing my spleen with laughter. The git hasn't done any of my requests yet, mind.

It's happened yet again, for about the sixth year running: DVLA send out the road tax renewal, budget changes come into effect, and by the time I'm allowed to buy 12 months tax, part way through April, it's a fiver more than they stated in the renewal bumphf. Why does this happen? I can predict it, so why can't DVLA?

Also, is this legal? - they've stated a price in writing, I'm (sort of*) willing to pay that, and yet when I come to pay they insist it's a fiver more. Retailers couldn't get away with this, after all.

Yep. 'Invitation to treat'; Fisher v. Bell, 1961.

Though I may be talking ex recto. BV72 (a real lawyer) will be along presently

it says on the form that cost may rise - dont worry, they have covered their arses well

Luton airport.

Its too small, there's not enough seats and the whisky selection in duty free isn't good enough.

Alos, being there means flying on a sleazyjet flight.

Which will be delayed.

All airports are shit. I made a decision never to fly again after my last experience.

Bankok airport is nice, it has a garden in it.

Nippa overheated yesterday on the way home! I noticed the gauge higher than normal!

I pulled over and let her cool down a little (it was rush hour traffic), and then blended in with traffic again, before the needle nearly reached the red zone. Knowing these Daihatsu engines have a propensity for doing the head gasket in a lot, I thought that's it. Pulled up again outside a truck stop type place and checked under the bonnet. Noticed new coolant everywhere. I'd forgotten to put the rad cap back on. I used the truck stop to get some water, and it did well all the way home. I got to Halfords which is just round the corner from my house, and as luck would have it, out of the 7 QH caps, one fitted my engine (through trial and error fitting).

Put it back on, drove to work the next morning, and took the cap off for it to vent through the day.

Drove home tonight, in the knowledge it had no air in the system, only to come off on a dual carriageway, and heard a loud banging noise under my car, peering in the rear view mirror to see my new radiator cap bouncing merrily down the road behind me.

I u-turned at the next juntion and double backed, and spotted the cap in the middle of the road. Not wanting to let another one go, I waited for a large space in the traffic and re-retrieved it and put it back on properly. Ha!

Bankok airport is nice...

Not if you want to go to Bangkok. Or most other places in Thailand.

It's way out in the sticks to the east with no practical links to the city, or to the domestic airport to the north-west of town!

Posted

I've managed to get on a flight to Phuket from there without going elsewhere.

And I got back to it from Bangkok a few weeks later, though I don't remember that journey beyond it being early in the morning and in an lpg'd Toyota Corolla.

Its also nice to fly through.

(Was it a Corolla 'Limo' with plastic seats, rubber floors and 13 inch steels?)

Yes, there are some (relatively expensive) domestic flights from 'Swampy'.

Taxi from town is ok, though traffic, even on the express tollways is wildly unpredictable. Catching one from airport to town can be a real ball-ache. There's an 'Airport Link' train, but when they built it, starting at each end, they met in the middle with different gauge lines. Or something equally farcical. It's a national embarrassment. Well, the whole airport project was, and is, despite the propaganda.

Corolla "limo" sounds right.

The flight was about £60 one way on Air Asia (or some other budget carrier) 4 or 5 years ago.

Cheap if you're from the UK, probably quite expensive if you are Thai.
