Mrs. woke up yesterday morning. Unfortunately her arm didn't. Yes, I know your special* migraine gives you stroke symptoms without the stroke, but this is new and frightening. Coupled with you can't smile, walking is shot to shit and speech has left the building I'm phoning the nee naw.

Nee naw wants to take her to A&E. She doesn't want to go. They persuade her it's a good idea. See someone from stroke department, they think it's not stroke, more migraine running even more insane. See a doctor, they're going to contact neurology for advice, plz wait.

Mrs then decides to be a pain in the arse, and randomly starts shouting at people she wants to leave now. They tell her we will move you to a quieter area, but in reality we're moved to a room with other cantankerous old biddies. They bribe them regularly with tea and biscuits. It doesn't work well, as mrs and other biddies make demands constantly. I tell her to sit down and shut up, which goes really really well.

Eventually doc turns up, going to write a prescription for super magic pills. Take to chemist, you have 20 mins before it closes. So I wheel her pronto in that direction. I then realise I can park her and nip down a flight of steps, or I can wheel her for bloody miles. Parked her, stay here, I'll be back.

Came back 10 mins later, no mrs, no chair, nothing. Fuxake! Not answering phone. WTF? Eventually found her staggering around shop, has left chair so someone nicked it. Well done! Plonked her near the exit, walked a mile to get car, playing not answering phone game so blocked car park to go drag her out.

Later give her a new magic* pill. And it works. Sort of. She's reset to the angriest girl in the world and spends the next 2 hours telling me to fuck off, everything she hates about me, how she improved* a&e by being a PITA etc. Marvellous!

There's one near me called Forge Wood.  Obviously they massacred almost all the trees to build it.

Well Souless Newbuild Compound while truthful, isn’t going to sell many houses.

My dad used to work as a building surveyor for a large telecom company. They often had to name roads on some of the projects he worked on. He was quite derisory of the footballer's names that were suggested, but thought he was hot shit suggesting racing drivers and niche car manufacturers. One he was particularly pleased with was Ackerman Way (I think it was way, it's been a while).

Apparently it's extremely poor form to name a road after yourself. A bit crass.

In the 80s , I used to live in a street called Thatcher’s Lane. It was semi rural and obviously named after the craftsmen and was there way before anyone had heard of Maggie, but every time I told anyone my address I got a load of stick.

I like any street or area name that sounds rural or bucolic like mead, farm, park or meadow , it invariably means it’s a  proper sink estate.

Witnessed another nutter professional* driver today. He was driving one of those Isuzu puddle jumpers very aggressively, and rather too fast 60 plus on a single carriageway a road. The weird thing was he was insistent on not letting me overtake him when we reached the hilly bits where he was holding me up. He actually swerved out to block me twice before I gave up (not worth getting in an accident).

I don’t get it, if you’re paid to drive why drive like a twat?  I usually drive on my own time and was trying to get back for my kids because my wife was away with work. I wasn’t doing anything to rile anyone up, I usually make a point of not holding anyone up.

Two sink estates in Cork are Mayfield and Gurraneabraher which means 'Grove of the Brothers'. The halting site, which is the kind of hole you'd expect, is on Spring Lane.

There's a Lara Croft Way in Derby:

And the fairly well-known Letsby Avenue is South Yorkshire where S.Yorks Cop shop is located.

One thing that puzzled me was around new builds, when roads were not named, the local council used to force developers to name roads, so suddenly, a massive plethora of roads called "Loverose Way" appeared all over new build estates and new industrial/shopping complexes.

In my job I get to see a few interesting addresses, airfields that have been turned into housing estates often have streets named after planes.

Today one address was on an estate where the roads were named after stars & other things connected with space.

A little more interesting than estates were they are all species of birds or trees!

It simply saves time at actual check in as you have provided most of the information they need.

Meh. Can't ever muster up the energy to get animated about this sort of thing.  It's not shit parking; it's parked deliberately so.  The car park looks pretty empty.  And, knowing the state of most other motorists these days, someone will still ding the thing or drive into it.

Nice car.

We have a newly finished Retriement village in the town.  All the artists impressions made it look nice and open with a large central courtyard, which it does have, just not the view everyone else gets from the road.  That angle is far more monstrous, so much so it’s got tagged as ‘the prison’ but quite a lot of us locals.  Since opening; the local whatsap and Facebook groups have many references to ‘the prison’, so much so that a local councillor actually posted up a serious reply asking/telling us all to desist as we weren’t helping the units sell.  Like we gaf…..😂. Hateful place designed to relieve families of any inheritance with either the half that’s a care home, or the half that’s residential apartments with their extortionate fees from the start to well after your demise.

Shirley it's Torvill and Dean or Jayne and Christopher? Not Torvill and Christopher. That would annoy the hell out of me if I had to live there.

Yes, this is definitely what I wanted to be doing this afternoon.

One shorted magnetron.  What fun.

Obligatory warning: DO NOT go poking around inside microwave ovens unless you really know what you are doing.  Even then, don't.  Second possibly to gas appliances, they are probably the single most dangerous thing in the house to go poking around in if you're not absolutely sure what you're doing.  There are very high DC voltages present, and with the ability to source large currents at those voltages.  They can and quite likely will kill you if you don't treat them with appropriate respect.

Replacement parts are readily available and are about 1/3 the cost of an equivalent oven, so it will probably live to fight another day.  The HV rectifier and the capacitor will get changed as well as a precaution, and because they're pretty inexpensive in comparison to the magnetron - and I'd *really* rather not have to go pulling the covers off that again any time soon.

They are just examples of the realitively large estate, I'm pretty sure there is a Dean something and Jayne something ie Close/Drive/Road/Avenue etc.

And there is

Where do you live? "Corner of Jayne Close and Torvill Drive". You're having me on!

They were that good they got a road for each of their first names and their surnames.

There are some other roads on that estate that must be linked in some way to T&D but mean nowt to me - Crawford Close and Courtney Close anyone.

Fair enough, it was early as you say. It was the fact they'd managed to hang the arse over the 2 spots behind as well that caught my eye.

unless you need/want it for your own stash/projects, if your gonna change it anyways, can I call dibs on at least the HV capacitor? they are quite handy for lighting projects/experiments , because they are a super high voltage *AC* rated tight tolerance things, so if your trying to put together capacitor bank for some ballast they are very handy for that especially if you need to fine tune to some specific value

say I wanted to use this 18W Choke in a series capacitor leading configuration, good luck finding a 2.6 uf 4% tolerance 480V AC capacitor LOL

IMG_1227.jpeg.505cf5dbd8b677a844e50ebc02c8a345.jpeg

those caps are also good if you just want a robust thing, being rated for 2000V means when used in 240V-480V applications in lighting, they should hopefully last a while! unlike modern film capacitors which just self heal themselves to death and you wonder why your SRS ballast is so lousy starting all of a sudden!

obviously they are big bulky things so not gonna be much use in a more modern fitting, but as above, very handy for use on the test bench

so I make a habit of hoarding  microwave caps them/saving them if someone in the block of flats I lives in chucks out a microwave as well as the rest of the guts of said Microwave

but yeah Ill Ditto what you said about *DO NOT* go poking in Microwaves! I think Microwave Oven Transformers have killed the most hobbyists out here out of everything else

I was very careful to touch as little as possible when replacing the light globe in my microwave. Gone are the days when Microwaves had a little door on the side to access the globe.

Bus stopped in Chester-le-Street, several passengers disembark, a new one steps on and wants to travel for free, pissed as a rat, claims that he has a disabled travel pass that he has lost but wants to travel anyway.

Driver turns off the engine and waits....and waits...and waits for him to bugger off.  No pass, no money, no bus ride.

Passengers start telling him to bugger off but he says he needs to get home, so they tell him to walk.

In the end two women get up, shove him off and the driver closes the doors, starts the engine and off we go - twenty minutes later :(
