The grumpy thread

Made redundant today. That's not the grump as I knew it was coming, it's the 4 hour drive I had to do for the 15 minute meeting*.

Thinking of posting in the 'what makes you grin' topic about how I was 10 minutes into my return journey from the meeting* and was offered on the blower a better job with another firm... with a much healthier salary! Downside is that I'll have to do the train everyday. Oh well!

They know.  My immediate manager is trying to give me things with more responsibility but her hands are tied by job descriptions and senior management.  It could be worse.  A lot worse.  Just feels like a great fucking waste of time.

Fuck that. And I hope you told him to go fuck himself.

Richard, I've got no particular reason to. They treat me well. I think it's just that it's going nowhere and I really should be getting somewhere by now. I'm 30 in June and whilst I appreciate that's no age at all, I'm a bit sick of feeling like I'm treading water.

Sounds very like where I was for the last couple of years at the council.

I actually really enjoyed my job and worked in a cracking team. The beaurocatic nonsense did drive me mad at times, but that's the public sector for you. Was great in that small changes though they were that I was making, they were things I could see making things better in the real world. Sadly it was a situation where there was nowhere to go from there other than upper management, which really isn't for me. I'd much rather spend all week walking around the sites I'm improving in the middle of February in the snow than spend the whole of my life stuck behind a desk.

Never did really figure out where to go from there as my other half wound up getting a job at the other end of the country paying twice as much near enough. Still feel guilty for "deserting" my team though.

Does always mean it grates when I hear complaints against council workers though...I know there are some bloody good folks there, and they're often as frustrated by "the system" and the will that's forced on them by the elected members as we are.

My local garage can't fit the TT in for it's brakes until next Monday. Unfortunately because they're pretty good, word of mouth spreads business and has made them busy all the the now. Biggest problem is that I really could do with it back on the road sooner as I need to use it.

Might have to find another garage to do the work. I hate having to find new places then trying to find out if I can trust them. At least Audi TT brakes are pretty straightforward things to work on.

Better.  He's an attorney, so I quoted Shakespeare at him...

Unicom are cunts.

My electricity was supplied through this shower of shit until July last year.It was from SSE through them and has been from SSE direct since January.Unicom took money from my account in Feb which was fair enough but when they then took money in March so when I finally got the time to cancel their direct debit I did so.The very next day I got text messages then two days after I'd been to the bank a letter demanding I contact their finance department and reinstate the direct debit.I contacted the finance department and explained that I am no longer their customer and by taking money for services they do not provide they have basically stolen from me.Erm,erm wrong department I will put you through to the right one.Twenty minutes on hold and they've put me through to the broadband department.Oh putting you through to the right department.Another twenty minutes and it's "I'll get them to call you back".Nothing until the next day "oh, we will look into it".

Within a week a letter asking for £40.00. Phoned them up and again wrong department and twenty minutes on hold.Told them I'm not paying for something twice what is this 40 quid for "we'll look into it but in the mean time we will monitor your account" eh,,,what account.Text messages again and another demand so again I phone the number on the letter to be told wrong department....Fucking twats....Finally get through and eventually told yeah they haven't supplied my electric since January but they are monitoring the account.Asked what for and it's oh we've taken money we shouldn't have and will work out by 15th of May what we owe you.In the mean-time ignore any more letters.Yeah there have been two more letters and text messages and today a text threatening to cut me off.Utter, utter cunts.

Nobody go with Unicom unless you've read the pages (yes pages) of complaints on the internet first.

It's grumps like this that make me question going with a company I've never heard of who have been in existence since last september... It's also why I chose the month by month account too, just in case!

Since when did alternators cost £300 ?

https://www.gsfcarparts.com/903vg0322

(and do look at the massive powerhouse range of engines this alternator is for)

Since GSF and ECP have been in discount coupon wars. GSF regularly do 60% or near enough codes now. Which would make that a £120 alternator.

Is everyone in logistics an utter twat?

Text from DHL on Sunday, your parcel is scheduled for delivery Tuesday.  OK

Today, Your parcel is out for delivery today, what hold on, where's the link to re arrange? not there great I'm out all day.

Bit latter on, we attempted delivery but you were out, no shit Sherlock, I'll sort it out when I get home.

Get home and check post box for delivery slip, yep sorry you were out. Open front door there is DHL parcel, ask Mrs Madrat, yes they came about 11:30 I had come home for lunch.

GSF mark everything up. You need to use a discount code to bring their prices down to anywhere resembling reasonable. I used wkd56 at the weekend and got a good chunk off the stuff for the oil change I couldn't do.

Pointless Twitter argument with an Israeli who thinks it's OK to use snipers on kids with rocks.  He's entitled to his opinion but...

Stop the world, I want to get off for a while.

I feel like that at the moment, stop the merry go round I need to get off. Every single day there is an even more absurd news story. Can it go on?

Actually had a little weep at work today. Fuck knows why.

Worst thing about it is that I actually quite like my job!

Ive had a little weep at work. The doctor gave me some cream for that whole area though and its clearing up nicely.

Hope tomorrow is a better day dude.

Ordered some components for a computer project. Out of stock when ordered but some expected end of last week, so should have arrived today. Nothing.

Turns out when I thought they were using the American date format and they'd be in stock 11th May..... NOPE. 5th November.

How can they seriously know they're going to get a load of capacitors in in 6 months time? Why even let me order them? Why am I so dim to misread a date?

Several people owe me money.

I have been very patient and now it's grating - and hurting me financially.

I don't want excuses, I want the money. You have had long enough. I want the money I am owed.

(The music video for that makes the point even more eloquently and with boobs, but you can go hunt it out yourself)

Fucking eBay, pulling a 7 day listing with 12 hours left to "sell" elsewhere with no disclosure.

At least the degree to which I'm pissed off justifies that I do want another R8.

My Dad (a GP) told me that if I wanted an easy life as a doctor, become a dermatologist.  If it's wet, dry it, if it's dry, wet it.

I think that's advice I should've taken, to be honest.

Given the bollocks going around the NHS (and I think they're a modern miracle, frankly) I'm glad I'm not a doctor.

I can only imagine how much your hands are tied by some of the bollocks local councils have to put in place.

My other half earns more than double what I do - which isn't a problem in and of itself but puts into context how little I do earn.  She can make decisions to buy things on a whim that I just can't.  I hate having to think about whether or not I can buy a jumper that I fancy.  I know it's trivial and I appreciate that in context, I'm still firmly in the top 15% or so of the World's wealth.

I think what really frustrates me is that I'm quite highly qualified in something specific but working 'in industry' would be incredibly bad for my mental health, which is fragile at the best of times.  I work for an ostensibly public-sector employer that respects working conditions, holiday right, sickness, etc. and I'm very grateful for that.  I used to work for a mental health charity and I left because I couldn't get any further - went into a shit job that I had to leave and now I feel like I'm back in the 'dead end'.  My options are to either re-do a qualification I tried to do back in 2011-12, which led to me having a year out after a complete breakdown, waiting it out where I am and hoping for the best, leaping into 'industry' and probably fucking up my head or re-qualifying all together.

I've half-thought about training to be a social worker (I used to work alongside trainees and in some cases actively support them (and in one case, sort out a complete fuck-up they'd made with a vulnerable and volatile client)) but that would just be too much for my head, sadly.

It's all trivial and as I type it out, probably quite pathetic.  But there you go.

When did Frida Kahlo start doing music videos?

No, and no.  You are among friends.

And getting told on Sunday by Outlaw118 to 'stop bloody apologising' brought that home.

The fact that I was a little excited about the thick aluminium on a Porsche 924 fuel filler cap and nobody thought I was particularly odd was quite... gratifying.

Thanks.

Yeah I know I know. Luckily Bristol is a big place, so plenty of choice on places to go. Very rare to see a garage (unless very specialist) that is more than a week booked up at this time of month.
