The grumpy thread

Moderators - if you're going to shift a new thread to wherever it needs to go, please leave a link to the post number of the thread it's been moved to (or at the very least a link to the thread it's been moved to). Much as it might be a flea in the ear of the OP, but if I fancy the idea of the thread title, I don't want to have to trawl through all the other possible threads to find it.

It has been - if you check the thread I have moved.

Moving posts on phone has to be done in steps because we try not to merge them.

Ideally people posting in the right thread avoids all these issues

I'd imagine the minimum wage legislation would forbid that sort if thing?

Mustard mitt I tend to read upwards and missed the bit about it being his last week, so maybe that’s why. Things have to be trued up before he can be 'released' from the contract? Still sucks donkey balls

Did this get moved from your original thread?

No, I pre-empted them having a hissy-fit and deleting it.

That link wasn't there when I clicked on the thread the first time it.  QED!

I don't know if anyone else does this, but on a laptop/desktop I go down the front page and open each interesting thread in a new tab, thus it might be half-an-hour before I get to the one that's been moderated.

Gotta be honest, and I know these comments usually go down like a tonne of shit, “mods got a real tough job, you don’t know man you weren’t there” but I find the whole moving and merging threads irritating and confusing.

I mean, I appreciate what you’re trying to to, but I find these things are kinda self moderating, boring or duplicate threads tumble off the front page like lemmings, threads people are interested in will get traffic and stay up

Trickle charger thread was getting a fair bit of interest, since moving it to the 'correct' thread it’s killed it stone dead. Been half expecting the Pela thread to vanish today too

Just one mans opinion <hands up emote>

Agreed.

Although it's an "OMG BUT THE SITE WUD B DIFFERENT" triggering mindset I think the site needs more subforums. A dedicated sales and advice/questions section would get rid of the hard to search and muddled up mega threads which are numerous. You'd have two sections with easy to follow threads which members could dip in and out of if it's relevant to their interests without pushing things off the front page...

Why nots just merge all the project cars into the News 24 thread? I mean they're mostly status updates as things are progressing. We don't need many car individual threads polluting the front page.

Cars for sale? Well we could have a single thread for every single car for sale. Will minimise the amount of threads on the front page.

That way we can have it cleaned up to just a dozen or so monolithic threads making it tidy, but unnavigable. Perfect. Right?

Edit: ...just to point out this is tongue in cheek before someone thinks it's a good idea.

Why do so many people drive at 50-60 down the motorway? Is there some new unwritten rule that the limit has been lowered? In fact, when joining the M4 the other day they was a woman in a Ka driving at 45mph, stayed at that until the next junction, bloody carnage, lorries using lane 3 etc and she was totally oblivious.

When the fuck are people going to realise that driving below 60 on the inside lane just slows everyone else down as lorries sit at 60 mph pretty much all the time hence then need to use lane 2 and cause anyone else trying to make good progress to have to use lane 3 all the time.

FFS if you can't even do 70mph then get the fuck off the motorway and use an A road, if your averaging 50/55mph it will probably be quicker and certainly more enjoyable, leave the motorway for what it was intended for, fast moving vehicles and freight.

How's about fuck right off and use the overtaking lanes, I'm quite happy making progress at 55/60 in a van or 65 in the car if you can't deal with that buy a frigin Lear jet.

It's a maximum not a fucking target.

Apologies Mr Bollox your post came before mine.

Trouble is they don't as folk feel the need to chip in their tuppence worth to the repeat/boring thread which keeps it floating like an unflushable turd.

Quite rightly as battery chargers was only brought up 2 weeks ago and there was a few very extensive threads on Pela pumps if anyone actually searched for them.

Personally this place is busy enough to warrant at least a couple of sub-forums rather than tags. And some of the transient chat like news 24 /grumble / eBay should be pruned off and archived/dumped after 3/6 months. If it merits keeping, don't post in those or split the useful stuff off into a fresh thread.

Wow, just saw some absolute bellend on the CCC Facebook page ruin a post about someone's BX.

And he bought the GSA I really wanted, until that 205 debacle started. Meh.

Despite being 2cv columnist for the ccc, I have given up the website due to the abuse one would get for venturing a negative comment about Citroen or Michelin tyres. In expectation of the same, I’ve not registered for the Facebook page.

Wasn't me was it? I just got rather ticked off at some twazzock trying to offer scrap money for a heirloom BX that someone is desperately trying to get repaired, despite the fact that it needs some fairly significant surgery.

I've been a bit of a Citroen licker for a fair while now, having had 7 CXs, about 10 BXs, a C25 and driven/worked on numerous others (including GS.. what a cow of a design they are!), but have never felt the need to actually join the CCC, as it seems like a right bunch of handbaggers, muppets and bafoons. There's a select number of Citroen owners/lickers who I have met through BXclub who I know and get on with rather well (a couple of whom are on here), but the rest of the CCC seems like a rather grotty club. Best avoided. YMMV

It's a good job guns are illegal in this country, because there'd be several people with chunks missing out of them now.

In my experience it's usually so called family who like to cause shit when it's not the time more place. Hope you ok bud.

I don't do Farcebook or Twatter.

The CX section of the CCC Forum seems to have tumbleweed blowing through it. I was thinking of joining, but the application form looks out of date....

No working cars. Rover wont start this morning. I think it has a battery drain because so much is broken. Trying to start just clicks. Is that a flat battery? Need to haul it out and pop in on charge. Need to use it tomorrow.

I appear to have allowed the 205's MOT to lapse.

And the way the Blingo's going, I may well soon achieve the shiter's hat-trick: three cars, all of them broken...

Just been to test drive a local Lexus RX up for £5k, which I figured was a bit much but it's local so I could test drive it.

  • both bumpers need repainting
  • deep gouge down one site
  • sunroof drains blocked, water coming into the car on both sides
  • tyres flat
  • stank of tabs
  • 20k overdue a service, due a cambelt.
  • climate system disconnected (or more likely, fucked because of the..)
  • condensation all of the inside of the car, running down the dash and dripping onto the seats.

I turned down a test drive because I figured there was no point.  Wouldn't mind if it was cheap, but this was a dealer!

Fair play for tacking that job. More than i would have done.

Don't know that its an unlawful deduction as such. Depends on wording of your contract, LS.

I've known a couple of motor trade contracts where you were liable for an excess in the event of a fault accident. Usually it would be taken at £X / week but if you've left the company then they take it in one hit.

This basically. Thier insurance have deemed as liable because it's my responsibility to be looking forward. Yeah, like I'm not allowed to use my mirrors whilst merging.

Plus, because I "made" myself unavailable after the accident (attending a job interview on the Monday) work decided that I probably wasn't going to come back so blocked my works phone and fuel cards.

I went and sorted it out with them on Thursday and I have also officially left the company. I'm most probably going to be scraping the barrel for the next couple of weeks as any money has got to go to wife to sort out her medical issue. But hey ho, that is the direction that life tends to head for me, I'm just gonna have to take it on the chin. It's not the first time I've been at the bottom but this is rather more serious due to bills owed, I still haven't recovered from the poor work during the December.

2nd Saturday on the trot that I’ve been up bright, early and hangover free. 2nd Saturday on the trot that it’s been pissing it down with rain and I’ve got shat all to do.

This is the literal definition of all dressed up and no place to go. If it carries on much longer it’ll probably end up in buying another car, and that rarely ends well.

Kind of unfortunate timing there and a bit of a petulant 1st world problem after your post LS. But if it’s any consolation it sounds like you’re well out of that game, bunch of life sucking vultures and a job that sounds like a right pain in the anus even on its best day. Times are tough now but can only improve on what you’ve just come from.

I'm the kind of dope that has to make a conscious effort to check I'm loosening and not tightening a nut. Especially when the nut is upside down and I'm not.

So when I was taking the sump plug out of the old bike that has been off the road since 1990, I double checked I had the ratchet set correctly. Yep, definitely set to loosen.

The sump plug wasn't keen to undo, so I decided to pop the impact gun on it being especially careful to only loosen it lest I get covered in manky old oil. Of course I didn't need to check the direction the impact gun was set to as I had already double checked the ratchet. No need for such checks.

It took a couple of rattles to get the plug moving. Then it started to slowly move. Half a turn then a full turn, but still very tight. No harm in giving it a couple more bursts to slacken it off. Happy that it was now loose enough and no oil split, I got the ratchet back on it to take it off. But what's this? Why is the ratchet now trying to turn the plug the wrong way? Because it isn't you nugget. I've just over tightened the plug and fucked the thread in the sump. What a twat.

F-i-L gave us a [used] cot bed just before our first was born, which we've had set up for the last 18 months and has still never been used.

Went to list it on a facebook free kids stuff page, and looking up what it is has revealed a 'safety notice' from 2010 requiring a strip of aluminium to be posted out and fitted to hold the top and bottom bits together in case of idiots.

Why a grump? I don't care, and we aren't going to use it, but I don't want it clogging up the bedroom any longer and we can't very well offer it out knowing it's *UNSAFE*.  But it's a perfectly good bed, if someone needed one, and now it's going in the skip.
