Old car mojo at all time low. 205 saga still ongoing, which is a load of crap.

Tempra seems to have developed a starting issue which I think may be fuel pump related in the past few weeks.

Rover and Tipo fine but the storage and running costs are driving me nuts. I've only got myself to blame really, but it's so draining. Dunno why I bother sometimes.

Not really a grump but Mrs Shrimp is looking at hire cars for August when she wants to go on a semi random road trip down south stopping to see her friend in Coventry and going to the south coast.

So far she's come up all kinds of crazy prices the last one being £240 for a Focus. I said we'll take the Frontera then!

She's still looking though as although expensive she likes driving other stuff and is paranoid about the ST (sick of her saying it's making a noise, it's 13 years old of course it makes noises) but we've got recovery on everything and it's not like I'm shitting money...

If he didn’t want to sell why call you?

There are people like this in all clubs, as you surmise. The hoarders of rare and needed parts that they think are worth thousands rather than selling them at a fair price to enable other cars to live on and be used.

The worse bit is when they pass on and their relatives just skip ‘old Dad’s’ car junk.

Anyone else just getting pissed off with winter? Wish I could come home from work and be able to muck around on a couple of jobs needing doing on my cars, sadly it's been pitch black after 4pm for eternity. Plus this morning I ended up just walking to the train station as my area was a complete ice rink, and didn't want to risk my new (old) Merc on it. Bah

It's a cycle as old as time...

You start a fleet reduction ... End up with more cars... Then buy a sensible daily that isn't broke...get bored with it....sell it.... Buy shonkers....end up with too many ... Start a fleet reduction..

Eat sleep buy cars repeat

You spelt shit wrong bub.

Prestatyn is actally not too bad - compared to the rest anyway. Rhyl is shocking - the only people who go in the sea there are those being drowned by scousers over their drug debts.

I explored a fair bit over the weekend. Stopped in porthmadog, drive on black rock beach, drove round the bottom of Snowdon, went to rhyl, Llandudno,Bangor ,conwy and all little villages through. Went from Derbyshire down Shropshire way and across through Bala, way back I came across the coast road (a55?) Then onto m56 and m6.

Yes -6.5°degC here today, it's fucking cold, I'm sick of gritting the paths around the six and a half acre site I look after, also all the heating is marginal in the building and when we are at capacity (60 odd rooms) the hot water boilers can't cope, plus I'm 2 staff down so I'm having to cover their work and have had 5 days off since Xmas day with no extra pay to show for it as I'm salaried :(

If I didn't care and give a fuck I'd go off sick and book a last minute deal somewhere.

I froze my bollocks right off when cycling into work this morning! (I never use them anyway so no great loss)

In a hotel at Fareham tonight because of work. Grumpy because it's EMC and product testing, which is usually boring. Plus being away. However a 1hr45 drive here at night completely beats a potential 3hr drive at rush hour to be at the laboratory by 9am.

I have become a soft southern softy!

When I first came down here (33 years ago!) I was wandering around in 'T' shirts all winter and couldn't understand why everyone was complaining about the cold and how bad it was.  Now, I am freezing cold constantly! Today I was so cold I was huddled up in a duvet using the dogs for warmth even though the heating is on and it's not actually cold in here.

I really want to go and get the Mazda out of the garage and do some stuff to it, but it's too cold and I would freeze in seconds if I so much as touched a  spanner.

We used to go for the day in the 1970s, there was a plague of ladybirds one year. Then the oily slime started covering the sand at low tide and we stopped. My mum has a photo of her parents on the beach in the 1950s- gran in a floral print dress and grandad in his suit and tie with the trousers rolled up and a knotted hanky on his head.

For real depression now, try Prestatyn.

If you think Prestatyn is depressing try Old Colwyn up the coast.

So depressing even the pier threw itself in the sea.

Tonight I am grumpier than usual. The temperature here has been below zero for over a week, with the 2" of snow refusing to go away no matter how much I look at it. Before it got so cold, I removed the old brake pipes off the rear of the Chevrolet Astro day van. Now, whilst the Astro is in the shed, there is so much other stuff in there, the back end is up against the door, although up on axle stands, so the old pipes were removed with the door open. During removal, I managed to cut the back of my hands in several places (my skin is getting thin with old age but I am only 56 FFS), so my enthusiasm was not high for this job. Made up new pipes, then the snow came. Despite leaving a saucer of milk and a few biscuits by the van, the brake pipe fitting fairies have refused to visit, so today I put the heater on, put on my gloves and crawled underneath it. Of course, the bastards put up a fight, so the gloves came off and the pipes went on whilst the blood flowed. Went to join the pipes to the flexi, but due to my measuring the old pipes exactly and not being able to get such tight bends in the new ones, they are both about 2" short. Removed the easier one to get to and tomorrow I will make a 4" longer pipe, and make up a new bracket for mounting them.

Feeling slightly grumpy, I switched off th heater and retired for tea and the first aid kit. No point in starting anything else, as this evening I had a committee meeting for the local motorsport club (always an exciting and fun filled evening) so as I went to leave for that, it decided to start snowing again, accompanied by strong winds. As my drive is prone to snow drifts, I abandoned the idea of taking the Polio and fired up the Range Rover. As I got to the end of my track (about a mile of rough dirt track) the P38 lived up to its impeccable* reputation and the dash lit up with EAS failure and the suspension dropped on to the bump stops. Turned around, very slowly went back home and dug out the PDA. Reset the computer, and all worked fine again so should be good for another few months. Cheered myself up a bit with the thought that as I was now 30 minutes late for the meeting, at least there would be less to sit through. Of course, when I got there, several others had been delayed so the meeting had not started, so I had the joy* of sitting through it all.

To cap it off, on returning home, the snow must have stopped as I left and I could have taken the Polio after all.

Parky Jr is off to Italy on a school trip. Coaches left the school at 3.45am. But we were told to be there no later than 2.45am so have just enjoyed standing around in the cold for an hour in the middle of the night.

Can't be doing with this cold mullarkey. I think back to when I was a massive fat bastard in my Rugby days and this weather wouldn't have even registered as cold. Nowadays hypothermia starts setting in if I wear less than four layers outside for more than 30 seconds.

Possibly the rad hose(s) you've been supplied with are inferior quality. Are there any markings on it saying "Made In China"?

The first hose was brand new and had a nick in it from opening the bag with a knife (I think) and the second was a mystery condition second hand part that came with the car when I bought it. (See previous post)

Proper, very high quality (Made in Australia) replacement has now been orderd.

Fucking shit eurocarparts parts again, heater not working on the VW boring and engine not getting up to temp so fitted a new Circoli stat from ECP

Still no joy and car stone cold on 10 mile trip to work

Pulled ecp stat, tested it and it's wide open at 67°C when it should be opening at 87°C.

Fitted a firstline stat today and all is well again.

Not quite there yet - Mackem blood still keeps me sorted for almost anything. Ex in Dusseldorf had various Q's when I was in t-shirt skating on Rhein. Just shaved the bonce though and noticed a marked difference when out n about!

Can you do anything at all about this? Always wondered - cos actually testing it before it goes on the car, could you then return it with photo proof and get a new one? Is it worth the hassle? Or by testing it have you rendered it fooked?

Edit - yup, sorry - should've read 'fooked/used in their eyes'

Further to this, had them on the blower today. I didn't go wild at them because I've got bigger fish to fry at the minute and I was at work and supposed to be working.

Apparently this policy was on DD (I thought it was paid up and the DD was for the other van) but after the refund and them retaining commission plus a £35 admin fee to cancel, somehow I was £125 upside down on the deal. A load of shit really but I would have taken it begrudgingly on the chin.

Instead of informing me that I now owed them money, I got an email with a blank PDF attached.

Shortly after, they tried to take payment from my expired credit card and it failed, so instead of:

  • Calling me on the number they have on file
  • Sending me a letter to my home address
  • Sending me another email
  • Using one of the other (valid) cards and bank account details they have to make payment

They waited a few days then sent the "debt" to a "debt recovery" team??

They agreed to halve the £35 debt recovery fee, but then asked if they could take the £140 payment from the other Visa card they already have on file.

So that's that. Adrian flux can absolutely fuck right off, I'm never going to do business with them again, for the sake of £17.50 and a "Sorry about that"

I told them to make sure my other two policies don't auto-renew and that I'd cancel them both immediately but I don't want to end up bankrupted by bullshit admin fees.

Guess what! I've just received a letter from their Debt Collectors with regards to that £140 I've already paid! Brilliant!

Called the garage about the 205 today and got met with 'the boss (insert his name here) will call you back'

2 and a half hours later and no call. What the hell has happened?!
