Had about 2 hours of snow in Naarwich then completely disappeared by lashing it down for another hour.

 

I miss the days of half a foot of snow in the garden. SIK AS A PARAT 1.04/10.

Not to worry as the global cooling and ice age forecast in the 70s/ 80s should be kicking in around now resulting in glaciers as far South as Dudley Zoo.

As well as decent sledging on old car bonnets etc

We've had snow in MK for the first time in years, it's brought out some geniuses

 

There was a Lexus RX stopped in the outside lane of a dual carriageway , a couple walking away from it, I stopped to ask them if they needed any help. " No , we'll come back when the snow has gone, it's too dangerous to drive" !!!!!

Plus I've seen at least 3 Nimrod's driving on sheet ice and snow with a mobile phone on top of the steering wheel filming.

 

Just as well I didn't waste any money on winter tyres for the V70, the bloody thing did its fuel pump relay stop and won't restart thing yesterday, again.

Driving to a family gathering yesterday, the mother decided to whinge at me for driving on less than an inch of snow at more than 5mph. In the Volvo you couldn’t tell it was even there...

I also had my aunt have a go at me for holding the (automatic) car on the brake in D at some traffic lights becuase itd overheat the brake pads(???) and she tried to tell my mum her Cooper S would handle better in snow than her old Mk2 Fiesta 1.1L becuase it was heavier...

Ignoring both of them because a) they’re not driving and my aunt is an awful driver - driving around the outside of roundabouts ignoring the lanes, down the middle of unlit NSL roads in pitch dark because it’s ‘safer’, and 56 on the motorway. Yeah love, that makes me want to take your advice.

Bloody trains....

I planned a day out shopping in Manchester with my sister.  She would be on a train from Chester, I'd be on one from Barrow.

First grump.  Today (Sunday 10th) is the first day of the new timetable and the only way to find out the new times in advance was to physically ask at the station.  Which I did.  So ok, first train out of Barrow is 0922 (not too bad) but it only goes to Preston, where I have to change to another train supposedly going to Manchester Airport.  Which should drop me at Piccadilly at noon, a bit later than I would have liked but ok...  Train to Preston is pretty full by the time we get there, and there are more people waiting for the airport train.  We pulled out of Preston with people standing in the aisles, and it only got worse at every stop between.  Then we get an on-board announcement, with about two stations to go before Piccadilly... "This train will terminate at Oxford Road."  Which is the station before Picc.

Then my phone rings.  It's my little sis.  I tell her I'll be getting off at Oxford Road and walking the rest of the way (despite having no idea where the stations are in relation to each other).

You'll be pleased to know I found her and we had a lovely afternoon.  We even managed some Christmas shopping.

Then it was time to head for home.  Nice direct train out of Picc, 1646, taking me to Barrow.  Got to the station about 1642 and found the train was cancelled, but running from Oxford Road.  Er....

Station staff's advice was to get the next train going to Oxford Road and change to the Barrow train there.  Er...

Well ok, that happened to be my sister's Chester train, so we rode that far together.  Got to Oxford Road and found the Barrow train... had already left, on time as it should have done.  Cue a platform full of very disgruntled passengers.

20 minutes later there was a train to Glasgow, which would stop at Lancaster, so we all piled on to that, expecting to be able to get onto a Barrow train there.  Hahaha.

I hate crowds, by the way, I'm claustrophobic and can't handle hordes of people in close contact.

Finally arrived at Lancaster only to find the train we all should have been on had long left, and the next one would be along in TWO HOURS.  Here, amazingly, station staff came good and grabbed a bunch of taxis to ferry the Barrow passengers home.  Or at least to Barrow station.

One of the blokes in my taxi was a contractor coming to do some work at BAE, so I gave him a lift to his hotel as I'd left the Giffer Rover at the station this morning.  My good deed for the day.

I went out to the Civic at 8:50pm to drive to work. First the ice was too much for my scraper so I had to run back up to the flat to get they keys for the Triumph to steal it' scraper which worked SLIGHTLY better but was also shite.

Once sufficiently de-iced I went to drive away and found the hand brake wouldn't release. The handle would move but had no resistance and the rear brakes were jammed on entirely. The Triumph is still sans-MOT so I had to just drive the Civic as best I could.

Having the rear brakes half engaged while driving on icy roads has an interesting* effect on the handling characteristics... After a few miles the brakes got warm enough to unstick but it looks like I'll have to stop parking it on the handbrake umtil I can get the thing sorted though...

 

This is also not the time of year for trains. Every time my girlfriend came to visit last week her train was either over 20 mins late or simply got cancelled before it reached my station. It only has to get about 5 miles ffs...

 

Oh, ALSO my shift at work is 9:30pm - 7:00am which is arse. Especially considering I was on the piss on Saturday night...

Speaking of ice, I was surprised at the number of drivers who were on the road this morning who had made little or no effort to defrost their cars.

 

One in particular was blindly skiffing off kerbs with the wipers failing uselessly across a frosty screen.

 

Another stupid young lad had the window down and was looking out of that to see ahead.

For the changes in the behaviour of insurance companies. It could be to do with the approaching CP17/7 FCA changes, which basically tries to stop people selling insurance that can not be used in the event of a claim.

 

To cover themselves, this means that insurance companies and brokers will need more info off the client to verify that they are not going to trip basic disclaimers written into the polices. 

 

I'm looking at these rules for the purpose of life insurance and income protection (fortunately only a very minor impact on my customers), but I think it is widening the ICOB (Insurance Conduct of Business) rules outwards to include some insurance sales that were not previously covered.

Well I got my mobile office down the soggy and slippery A12 and there’s hardly any work. One has cancelled already. I get paid full rate fora cancellation so it’s almost a grin really

Bus routes get priority for gritting; if it's dangerous enough (normally police decide that) they'll pull the buses off.

 

Buses are remarkable not all that shit in the snow if you don't drive like a cock. We used to run all ours with tipper tyres on the drive axle which helped as well.
