Funding targets init. Part of my role is teaching medical ethics to practice managers.

Most people don't realise that GPs are effectively run as businesses now. For adding people to at risk lists they can get additional funding.

Interesting impact of GDPR is that they will potentially lose a source of revenue - cost of providing records to solicitors after accidents etc.

My wife got added to at risk list for Type 2 Diabetes. Need to lose weight etc.

Next visit yes you are over now, need to inform travel insurance you are type 2.

Next visit, well done all your figures are under now.

"Does that mean I haven't got it anymore?"

Oh no, once you are diagnosed type 2 that's it forever.

That doesn't make any sense. Unless I'm having a moment type 2 is diet controlled so not only do you need to watch what you eat you need to test blood sugars and adjust your food intake to suit?

Petrol traditionally (ie over the past few years) has actually got cheaper in December. We’ve been near £1 a litre in the last few years.

My rants?

My roof is leaking. New lead flashband and a couple of ridge tiles required. £300.

Oven is on its last legs. It was shit and the previous owner was surprised we even wanted it. It cooked food and was free so I obviously wanted it. £250 for a good 2nd hand replacement because mingebag.

Now the boiler has decided to start leaking. I love this old thing, we think it might be the original (1965) but at worst is a 70s replacement. It’s curtains really. Obviously we can’t just get another 2nd hand one because LAW so we have to get a brand new one.

Condensing, naturally, and it can’t go in the kitchen because the regulations have, you guessed it, changed. Properly installed, an oil burning combi is over £4K.

Kill me now.

That's ridiculous. So your wife was at risk of potentially developing something, and is now at a much lower risk of developing something, so she is classed as having developed something?

Mrs L's Bini failed to sell on eBay. Again. £1500 for a smart convertible doesn't seem too much to ask, even at this time of the year. And now I have to deal with a flood of 'lowest price m8' messages.

Alf892 had the same difficulty selling his meticulously maintained diesel from memory.

That is correct, now passed all those tests within the limits.

But once you have been over the edge there's no going back.

Except to the DR's for tests every 6 months.

Not exactly.

Was at risk.

Exceeded the test limits, so type 2.

Now under the limits, so still type 2.

I've checked it on t'internet so it must be right.

Can I have a 5 minute rant that's not about cars ?

Families, Old people and Families. Who'd have them.

I started typing about Mother in Law, Father in Law and there health issues, and the amount of support Mrs New POD and Mrs MikeR (sisters) have provided to them over the last 2 weeks, and how their oldest child (I shall call him Dick) has managed to undermine all the good work and make it all twice as stressful for them.

So much so that my wife has now had to take to bed with chronic fatigue, because sorting out her mother's issues has basically taken everything she's got and more (and Mrs MikeR looked like shit when I last saw her too).

On or other has stayed the night every night for nearly 2 weeks, and when MikeR is on Nights, that means that MRs New POD, has been staying over looking after his youngest (I have stayed the night twice at MikeR's house, whilst he was on nights and his wife was at her mother's)

Unfortunately money is not a bottomless pit and MikeR has to work nights and I have a job some 110 miles away so it's not possible to be there every night, to support.

Not a long term problem because Dick would happily put them in a home if it meant he didn't have to do anything. Like answer the phone or reply to texts.

And NOW (as a last straw) they've cancelled a trip to seeing the solicitor about organising lasting power of attorney.FFS if you want someone to make sure you are looked after in your own home you'll need to actually give them permission to organise it and pay for it from the savings you've put aside for a rainy day. And you need to do it whilst you still have mental capacity. Why have they cancelled this ? Because it gives the people named the ability to handle your financial affairs (in your best interest) should this be needed (and it will one day be needed).

The final icing on the cake. Dick, has told Mrs New POD that him and his wife have sorted it out for themselves, and she (the youngest) needs to make sure they do it. So wait a minute, whilst you were doing that (and very sensible too), you never told your parents and never thought to persuade them to do it at the same time. I really want to punch him.

Rant over, no details mentioned of the mother in laws health issues, just why the fuck are some people so fucking selfish ? Probably tired after the walk home from Church

More ranting :  My own father is paying to have his left hip replaced.  But he's not actually in any pain. 16th Jan apparently.

Sounds like a stupid idea then ?

He'll be right as rain for mother's 80th in April apparently.  They live in a village on Ynys Mon some 90 miles, away from me. There is no bus service within 2 miles of their house, and my mother drives like Michele Moulton on acid. She only has two driving modes.  Foot full to the floor and emergency braking. They have steps up to the house. (although there is a guest bedroom and disabled shower downstairs)

Wife has been involved in more stress with her parents today. And this caused her to have a go at me on the phone, because I went to work on Monday.

Mrs PBK is really starting to hack me off. Constant whingeing about nothing. My mobile was cut off today as I had exceeded my limit and generated a bill for calls. You'd think I'd killed nuns and kittens with a fucking chainsaw. Am off sick at the moment and with pending op it looks like I won't be back in work until mid Feb. Whinges about not doing anything constructive during the day. Hmm, that might be due to excruciating back pain, fucked left leg and right leg not being overly happy. I do the shopping, the cleaning, looking after her bloody Micra. I go to the gym as often as possible, I do what I can. She sits on her arse chatting in her authors/proof readers chat group most of the fucking day and only disturbs her precious activity to cook Ben his meals.

Losing my patience with this and other shit.

I suggest you sit her down and tell her you don't want to miss the opportunity afforded by 3 months on the sick, and you are starting an home business making and selling ...........................................................bespoke didos using a 3D printer and laser scanner you are going to invest in. This will require her to a) help you keep your member erect whilst the laser scanner gets a full 3D profile, and b ) Test the Prototype(s)

If she also has any marketing ideas, you think that you could probably sell 300 copies of your man member a week at a marginal profit of £65 each after materials and electricity.  And that's just to the women in HULL.  There's also the gay market, especially in Brighton. If you know any gay men that might also be prepared to help with marketing and testing of the prototype, that would be great.

So I'm putting in the order now to 3XCMS https://www.3xcmsltd.com/ in Wolverhampton and New POD will get commission from the sale and financing package, and it's all tax deductible, so we can always use it to make rare car interior trim parts.

Ya know, sometimes it's the small things that piss you off greatly...

Today, I wanted to do a simple task; I was in Bracknell (my first mistake) and I wanted to take some money out of a cash machine. Firstly, the cash machine didn't seeme to respond, then when it did, it cancelled the transaction, then wouldn't give my card back, so, I called the company who seemingly owned the cash machine (some generic cash machine suppliers) who say they couldn't do anything and that the machine probably ejected the card out a bit too quickly (it hadn't attempted to eject the card at all) so then it was on to my bank who cancelled the card straight away and are sending me a new one.

But I needed cash there and then, I was told by the advisor to visit a branch, show some ID and I'd be able to withdraw some cash, fine but time wa sgetting on and I had jobs to do.

Thankfully I got my cash and made my jobs. Fucking generic cash machines can FUCK OFF.

On my phone, I have the Nat West emergency cash function. Gives you a code which you type into any RBS / Nat west Cash machine.

Works fine. Only they put a block on your cards and internet banking and mobile banking app. And if joint account one's wife might be somewhat embarrassed in Asda at the till, when her card is declined.

Best not to use it if the emergency is that you can't be arsed to walk 1/4 mile home, because you forgot your wallet, then. :thankyou:  :food-smiley-015:  :anon:  :gen080:  :dog:  :gmorning:  :angry008:  :death:  :common070:

Probably for the best you cancelled the card Mo.

Many machines are programmed to slurp the card if there's any resistance giving it back, so if someone has tampered with the card slot (like put a skimmer on it) it might have only been a short time until it was cloned.

It looks a nice car. I prefer a late Generation one, but prefer the hatch. Time of year is proper wrong for selling it, but there's more that I can see.

The problem is the demographic for a private sale of an 11 year old car with a CAT D and only 6 months MOT, who can afford the insurance, are the sort of people who would walk away from an honest private sale if it were HALF the price because they are scared by the D.

You should be appealing to a female audience, with a tame but knowledgeable bloke who will be servicing it. He'd do his research and know that the gearbox is a getrag and not a midlands, and he'd know about early PAS issues, and know where to get the right code reader.

They (she) don't want a car on credit, but do want something funky.

But you are appealing to "mouth breathers", who can't afford the insurance and can't afford to run it.

The bit about the spare key should not be in the advert. if you Must then say  "2 Keys with the car, one remote, one not remote" (You can actually buy an none remote key for £46 from a MINI dealer BTW)

Are the tyres RUN flats? Is the brand worth stating? Is there a compressor and gunk in the boot ? Maybe a photo of the kit if you have it.

Is it a cooper ? I can see a cooper badge in the picture, but the advert does not say, and maybe mention the 115 BHP somewhere too.

So do you have any details of why it was a Cat D? Do you even need to put anything about the CAT D in the advert ? Private Sale. Buyer Beware. Is it listed on the V5 ? does it come up on a HPi check ?

Do you put 12 months MOT on it ? I wouldn't buy it without at least 11 months on it.

I think you should experiment at a HIGHER price, in your local free paper. Obviously Gumtree and Piston-heads are alternatives, but something like facebook, will perhaps get it in front of someone who never thought they could afford a Mini Cooper Convertible for the price of a shit corsa. - Mate I sit next to was surprised you can get a cooper s so cheap, after he saw me looking at one at £1800 on ebay at work.

I don't do facebook but they tell me that it's very popular.

There's a business opportunity I never even thought of.

Makes me wonder why I even considered a nursing career in the first instance.

One slight problem with the plan. A pretty essential one really.

Yes but you can do post processing before you print it out to make it a bit bigger.

That's not the problem is it? You are scared to tell the wife that this time next year you'll be zillionaires ?

Being on call.

Got home & fell asleep on the sofa as knackered today, woke up & was just about to get something to eat when my phone went off at 7:30pm. I've been back indoors about 20mins after having to go back to work after most of the network fell over leaving the entire hospital screaming at IT on the phones.

Best of all, it wasn't us. A breaker tripped on a UPS to one of the data centres & took down 2/3rds of a core switch.

Arrived home from work tonight to find my living room radiator, a big, long, upright jobby, had parted company from the wall it was mounted on. Luckily I had a table in front of it so it didn't fall over and break the pipes, it just fell sideways against another wall. Looks like the pasterwork all over that edge of the room is all cracking away.

That'll be a fun phone call to the landlady later on...

Was a dick a couple of mornings ago and ran out of pez on the bike...at 3.30am coming home from work with only 6 miles to go. It always manages 275 miles on a tank nae bother until then - 266 miles.

Bugger all chance of tipping it over because heavy bastard and efi. Luckily, eventually some bloke with his dug in a van stopped and gave us a lift to get some.

Grump is apart from wasting an hour or so, I got another bloody fuel can to add to the collection in the shed...

Just received a letter from Churchill, auto renewal insurance.

Its £1 more than last year at £542. However, instead of it showing 1 years NCB, it shows 2. (They do this apparently)

I did a quick compare the bastard and the cheapest was Admiral with a black box for £818. I thought this shit was supposed to get cheaper?

Trying to analyse the world of insurance is a little like trying to teach a pig to sing...

It just wastes your time and annoys the pig.

Hence pointless.

We got a new kitchen fitted in 2015 and the oven suffered an unexplained death over the weekend.

A new one was fitted today however not without problems.

It is an integrated item and above it there is an (also integrated) microwave.

It turns out that the concealed shelf that the microwave sits on is actually resting on top of the oven and not attached to anything. Furthermore the plastic waterpipes for the washing machine which is fitted nearby have been routed right behind the oven which obvs gets red hot.

I also noticed last night that the wiring for the wall socket that had to be created to supply the microwave in its new location is connected to the main circuit via about 15 metres of loose wiring laid on top of the cupboards and goes right over the boiler. This wire also appears to be frequently punctuated with Scotchlocks.

The same 2 guys also completely remodelled and rebuilt the whole house in 2016 so I am now basically assuming that the whole place is an utter deathtrap.
