The grumpy thread

Probably been here before, but...

adverts on Youtube. It's just dogshit on toast that you can't bang StarSailor/Stevie Wonder/Squeeze/whoever on without watching the bastarding start like a hawk so you can skip the advert. Also, finding my 94th copy of Carter USM Straw Donkey under my van seat, and finding it's knackered.

Adblock Plus Billy!

I have four YouTube accounts that are very thoroughly used and never see an advert.

Why HX3 in particular?

That's where my mate who needs a lock up is. He can't travel far.

Not when some twat has put the clip on before some major components so you have zero access to the 7mm bit

That's some twat at fault then, not the clip. :P

I'm sick of being skint.

I know it's probably been moaned about by loads of people on here before, but it's really starting to wear me down.

I've just been paid, done my "budget" for the month, and I've got fuck all for show for it. The car has just taken £300 off me, which whilst not unexpected, I could have done without. I did some cash in hand work a couple of weeks ago, and got paid a lot less than I was expecting - certainly less than minimum wage - and i'm supposed to be driving to Devon next week for a holiday (paid for by Mutha_Outlaw) and can see me having to ponce diesel money off the olds to get back home again.

Does anyone want to buy a kidney?

I feel your pain! Luckily I can ease the pain by selling hoovers, but that only buys extra shopping etc

I feel that pain too, intensely!

I saw probably the dumbest most reckless motorway manoeuvre yesterday. Leaving the M2 at the Ebbsfleet turnoff (coast-bound side), it's a fairly long, two lane slip road to a roundabout. We're a few cars behind in the left lane when a Golf mk4 guns it past everyone, looking like he's using the hard shoulder to undertake a car in the m2 slow lane but actually squeezes past it and the barrier to get on the slip road. He literally passed about 3 cars in the smallest space I've ever seen.

No wonder that road is always backed up and the speed enforcement getting ever more aggressive.

It's the bloody self service tills that piss me right off.

Tesco one had to give me £1.50 the other day. Two coins? No. Nine. Nine fucking coins for £1.50.

Total agreement. I've never had a 50, and only one 10p from Tesco self serve shit things. 20s, 5s and fookin 1s.  End up with a pocket full of chicken feed.

People at festivals wearing hats. You wouldn't wear that trilby or clockwork orange style thing in normal life, yeah you look really different, just like the 60,00 other blokes there

They're getting revenge on people like me who use the things to get rid of all their change. They've fitted coin slots over the hoppers to try and put people off (you used to be able to dump handfuls of coppers in at once), but I have the patience (bloody mindedness?) to put all my 1p's in individually.

I don't use the bastard things any more.    I seem to have a conductivity problem with my fingers anyway - can't use touch screens or smart phones.   Best use for my digits is sticking two of them up at Tesco and Asda with their horrid little self-service pens and waiting in line for a proper person to serve me.

I wish it worked for me, I've got ABP installed on Firefox & still get all the damn adverts playing.

Go into your Adblock settings and untick the 'whitelist certain YouTube channels' option, should stop it.

AdBlock Plus sold out a while ago.

Get uBlock origin instead.

My grump? Minor-ish. I was driving along a 40mph road earlier, just one lane each way with a dotted centre line. I see an abnormal load escort vehicle coming towards me, but I didn't slow down. The fucker then put two wheels OVER the centre line to try and intimidate me, so I still didn't slow down and just glared at them. They moved over, then the truck came round the corner with a load that barely went 6" over the edges of the trailer, thus there was no need for me to slow down anyway, as they were nowhere near coming over the centre line. FFS.

Option doesn't exist. I'll just keep not watching youtube, I've not missed much.

This happens loads up here with all the caravan parks. Generally the effing Landover escort vehicle is the only thing in the convoy that crosses the white line. One even parked diagonally across both lanes once to stop us for a truck that was chuffing miles away. Also bullying people at roundabouts.

I know exactly how you feel. I took a week off to go and see my missus. I support her as it's my duty but even taking a week off has seriously put me back financially. Right now, I have nothing at all, not 2p to rub together. I too have had to borrow off the old Ma and sister too. Embarrassing.

I guess though its one of those 'tests' in life. We've all got to struggle at some point, some of us more than others and I guess it's something that keeps the grey matter ticking over with having to plan ahead, think on our feet etc...

I'm on the lookout for a different job, this plating game is costing me a fortune and I'm constantly struggling.

There's a bug with ABP or Firefox where it drops the blocking lists when the browser is closed, so it doesn't know what to block.

I had this a while back and just switched to uBlock Origin, I couldn't be bothered to try and fix it as it involved resetting the Firefox profile which is a massive pain in the arse.

Preferred ABP as it was more user friendly, but meh.

Strange, I have been using it for years now on various systems, mainly Linux, with both Firefox and Chromium and never had an issue with it, seems to work on every site I use.  Always remembers my settings.

I did turn it off for ARRSE for a couple of days but all the ads sent the computer into a tailspin so re-enabled it, no more problems.

Thanks for the Adblock tip, it's certainly worked so far.

I've used ABP on many machines over the years and it's been absolutely spot on, not sure why it suddenly started forgetting the lists a few weeks back.

Posted

I noticed that behaviour too, I sacked it off for uBlock origin and that seems to work for now.

Posted

Not wishing to tempt the Fates, but ABP is fine here in Mac/Safari-land.

There's very limited choice of things that work on Android, so far adblock is doing OK. It doesn't stop all the pop ups (which make a new window) or work on YouTube but for normal stuff it's OK.

It blocks most things, just doesn't block the adverts that play on youtube before or during videos.Got it on several machines & they are all the same. I might try that uBlock to see if it works for me.

Well it appears that the brake caliper from America has been delivered. According to the DHL website. Am away at the moment so where the caliper actually is remains a mystery.
