Have a look on your local Freecycle / Freegle group, there always seems to be people on the Huddersfield one giving away topsoil, I guess they're skinflints doing a self-build trying to avoid paying to have it taken away.

I attended a dole 'job jolly/encounter group' last Tuesday.

7 folks slated in but only I turned up - I joshh not!

Laydee skimmed my CV - hey! one to one support going on - and very first observation.. ??

"I have never seen a CV where the author states 'non smoker' "

I said why would an employer want someone who only works 50min per hr?

I possibly have whooping cough, got to have a blood test to confirm.

I guess I have all the people who haven't had their kids vaccinated against it to thank....

It's making a comeback and it's nasty, I certainly wouldn't want my child having it

Nan rings me the other day "Cars leaking something"

Told her not to drive it and I'd have a look when I can get over, she said no problem as she didn't need to use it for a few weeks.

Got another call from her a few days later "IT was making a funny noise when I went to Asda so I took it to the garage and they say it's knackered"

I rang the (trustworthy) garage - Verdict - Water pump totally fucked, not a drop of water in it, pinking it's knackers off when she got there making a right row, completely cooked.

Needs at least a HG, cambelt and waterpump.

So that's that scrap then FFS. TBH it's about time she hung up her driving gloves so it's not come at a bad time really.

Try cycling, even tricycling if balancing isn't your thing.  I have been unable to cycle since the early 1990s, thanks to arthritic hips, but find that waving weights around keeps my top half in reasonable trim.

Cycling and swimming are all part of the plan, as is waving weights about, but running was getting the spare tyre off more quickly. Just have to go full-on salad muncher do millions of crunches and no-weight squats.

^^^I tried all that stuff but decided it was loads easier to just be fat.

Todays grump is non-stop spam from Orange who seem to be launching online banking, and as a valued* customer, would I want the honour of being among their first financial customers?

These shitcunts cant get my phone bill right without fucking it up every other month, why would I trust them to manage my money overdraft?

If that were the case I'd be bankrupt rather than simply destitute.

Rowing machine instead of running.

It's a full body workout & low impact.

Called Aviva again, and after another 38 minute phonecall (used my work phone so meh) the fit sounding young lady tapped some buttons, put me on hold for 20 minutes whilst she had a fag, piss and popped in to speak to someone and it's 'all sorted now, the NCD flag has been removed'.

I won't get excited about that yet, but hopefully the Xantia finally goes to it's new home on Sunday, so I can uninsure that once the new owner's home, then they can do one as I'll change my tack to 'well I only have one car insured...'

Flipping hell, anyone would think a multicar policy would be geared up for insuring multiple cars... OK it was my fault for putting my NCD down twice but I've never had 2 cars of my own to insure before, and the box did not explain how it worked, just 'enter your NCD here', so I did!

I also bought some cheap spy glasses with OMG 1080p which turned up today and are utter utter bollocks. I wasn't expecting miracles for £35 but these are beyond shit, if another SD card/using it's internal memory and a good charge does not fix it then complaints and ebay disputes will be raised.

Fuck sake these old Fivers!!

Me being me and in my own world I got palmed off with an old one this evening after buying some milk, didn't realise at first, then went to buy Fish and Chips down the road, all wrapped up and went to pay £5.40 then the girls says  'sorry we can't accept those old fivers

Safe to say the fish and chips stayed wrapped up on the counter while I walked out,  its fuckin daft, all banks will accept them until whenever so why wouldn't a business take them? They don't suddenly become worth nothing after tomorrow.  Anyway that was my local chippy, guess where I won't be going to again.

And the chatty sri lankan petrol station owner knew what he was doing with all the chit chat whilst palming me off with this old fiver, wanker.

How expensive VW parts are, even 2nd hand, and in particular Golf GTi specific parts.

Also why a lot of stuff seems to go wrong and need fixing on a car all at the same time, nothing for ages and then boom all at once, over £1000 ill have spent in the space of 3 weeks on mine! and thats just on a full service, 1 new rear caliper, rear discs and pads, a new undertray and rear lower arms.

Kin Ell! Get a set of spanners and have a go, nothing on that list is hard to do and would save you a fortune.

Quite an interesting read (for once) on Jalopnik - http://jalopnik.com/the-bmw-addiction-that-completely-destroyed-this-man-s-1794882542

A lot rings true for shiteists. The stealing $500,000 from your employer and ending up losing your family and going to jail.... probably not so much

I don't believe it.

American 'justice' involves every tiny detail of what a criminal has done being made public. There's no trace of this story anywhere where it hasn't been sourced from the Jalopnik article.

I suspect it's a complete work of fiction.

Still legal tender until Saturday so should have accepted it....

I know, I can't get why they wouldn't take it as they must take all the cash takings to the bank and these old fivers are going to be accepted by banks literally for ever, very weird. Lose a customer, that's a lot of fivers as I do rather like Fish and Chips.

Probably because most of their cash doesn't see a bank !

I always lose track of all the rules and myths around "shops can't refuse to take legal tender", "you can pay for stuff with stamps", "they don't have to legally give you change" and all that. But yes, old fivers are still legal tender so any shop that's refusing to take them is just being dim.

You know what, that was exactly what I was thinking after walking away, everyone's paid in cash including themselves, staff and suppliers of fish and potatoes.

Nail on head there TS.

First world problem I suppose, but I'm getting a bit fed up (well actually rather a lot fed up) with my so-called classic-friendly garage.  Come on guys, you've had my Rover there over 12 months now!  Actually.... I dumped it on you over 12 months ago... but still.... you've got all the parts (that I bought) so let's see some welding going on!  The fucking thing isn't even inside the gate, it's outside (on his land, yes, but exposed to every idiot using the public car park).

Grump grump grumpity grump.

^^Pick up and collect and drop off at another garage imminently

Seriously,  sod em.

To do that I'd need to have him dig out the bits that aren't in the car and load them in, which might be exciting for the fabrics as we're talking full exhaust, full sills, etc, then hope it starts without his powerpack, then hope he doesn't dob me in for driving it away in a dangerous condition, then hope he doesn't phone all his mates with other garages telling them to avoid this messer... a messer with not one but three cars that need taking care of.  It isn't that big a community round here, that I can afford to piss off a big chunk of it.  Also, it's a community I don't know well enough as I've only been here 4 years.

So, however tempting the idea might be... not practical.

Not to mention that when he does actually do the work, his work is good and his prices aren't out of order.  And he's a nice bloke.  I'm just getting frustrated with the holdup.

Went to help my nephew last night when his car wouldn't start "due to an alarm fault" according to him. Drive 40 miles to the Tesco car park he's in and find all the symptoms of a flat battery, try to jump it but can't get enough juice with the crap jump leads I threw in the boot before I left so decide it'd be easier to park my car on a slope big enough for a bump start and swap batteries round. I remove both batteries and set about fitting my good battery to his car, he decides to help and fit his fucked one to my car. Turns out even a knackered battery has enough juice to fuck everything up if some twat connects the terminals the wrong way round.

End result is a Grand Vitara with loads of stuff not working anymore

Don't try to do good deeds for people, even relatives; it'll always turn and bite you on the bum.  Trust me, I know.  You'd think I'd be able to follow my own advice though, wouldn't you?  Hah.

This, sadly.

A few years ago I offered to help my sister out by lending her £2k to help kick start a career venture.

It didn't help, she's since gone a totally different career route and I'm still waiting for any of the cash back. Bloody families!
