The grumpy thread

Anyone who wants me to fit second hand wheelbearings gets told to bugger off, MGF or not.

Oh she did buy a complete hub which I would of fitted except the idiot who removed it has hit the top of the ball joint thread which makes it pretty pointless even trying to fit it. I don't mind fitting secondhand if the parts were actually any good and removed properly rather than the crap she has had delivered. It came from a supposed specialist Rover breakers who don't even supply invoices, just a compliments slip with £300 written on it. They certainly know how to charge that was for a secondhand hub a pair of rear track arms (that are wrong anyway) a radiator (that is bent slightly at the top) a front fog light switch (it needs a rear fog switch) A front exhaust pipe (this actually looks pretty good) and a new but really cheap aftermarket cat.

Wow. I'd have sold you an entire MGF for that.

No more Facebook for a bit.

Because it's crap. And annoying.

My work blocked FB last week, I've not missed it.

Been a bit busy lately, some Pleasure but mostly Work.   48 hours since Friday.   Looking forward to a couple of days off trundling the Cowley around Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset back roads so I swapped cars in my storage unit after work today.   Even remembered to take my half-eaten sandwiches out of the Minor.....

Well, that idea is all fucked now......They are Gritting The Bloody Road outside.   WTF?   This is southern Hampshire not the bloody Cairngorms.   Now there will be three tons of salt in every gutter and verge across the county.    Looks like I will be painting the bathroom like she wants, then.

All modern cars are shite. I've got a 4 year old Dodge Charger thats in for a service, and a few other bits. They've had to change the bottom arms, tension arms and roll bar bushes under warranty. Fair enough, i'm not paying but its the second time the bottom arms have had to he changed in 4 years. That's proper shite, that is.

Must be an American car thing... PT Cruiser bottom arms and ARB bushes are also basically a service item ...every two years or 20,000 miles. The only good thing about it is they are piss easy to change and relatively cheap to buy.

Must be 25 degrees here in oxfordshire, may brave opening the sunroof on the way to work this morning!

eBay idiots asking how many miles my 30 year old van has on the clock. Then moanin that 160k is a lot, ignoring the fact that the engine and gearbox have done half that and most of the suspension is new. And it's a 30 year old van FFS, most vans have done that by 5 years old!

After getting another Volvo after a number of years I've gone back onto the VOC forum and joined the Facebook group and I have to be honest I'm a little disappointed. Years ago you'd chat to time served 240 owners (probably with beard and sandals) who were mostly down to earth, full of good advice and always willing to help. Nowadays The forum and FB group seem to be full of twats dishing out opinion and wild speculation as fact and generally speaking complete bollocks. Not everyone I hasten to add, but it seems to be a sizeable amount.

Disappointing.

This. Having handed back my membership card after dickheadgate 2017 (storied episode #1819) I can but concur with your findings.

I'll renew next year so I get an insurance discount. The VEC seems hell bent on imploding.

Key cutting update - Timpsons did 4 keys for 18 quid including the blanks. Saving me well over a score compared to using my local independent. Even better, I asked the bloke in there if they'd been busy. 'Yes which is good as I don't have to talk to customers'  :-D  I will definitely be using that at some point on an irritating Saturday at work.

The bastard dumping cars round my town has replaced that Seicento that had the windows put through, with the windows boarded up, and 'CHUCKY'S BACK' painted on them, and 'MOT' daubed on the windscreen (yeah 'cause it'll pass an MOT like that).

Seems awfully pikey, and makes me all the more confident the bugger is contravening planning laws.  Hope the council get back to me soon.

Push it into the road so it's causing an obstruction? Somebody will torch it soon...

Might have to.

That, and the five others.

Get the fuel cap off & report it, the council will take it within 24hrs as it's in a dangerous state.

So, I've had a certain (mega early) ZX in my watch list for about 8-9 months, it's always been the wrong time to go and view/buy, but now with an impending house move meaning basically £500 extra a month spare, I thought I'd arrange to see it and hopefully agree a purchase.

Seller takes a few messages to reply. Can't do the date I suggest. I suggest another date, thinking it'd be easy.

Seller has now replied saying he wants to keep car himself.

AGHHHHH.

Seriously though, if anyone sees any ZX Aura Diesels for sale ever, be it on eBay/gumtree/auto trader/local ads whatever, please let me know. I HAVE TO GET ONE OR I'LL EXPLODE

Fucking Cactus, I got a puncture. The space saver is 400 inches smaller than the alloys, so my car just veers right, which means it's now setup perfectly for Nascar... If i go around the wrong way.

The fancy orange panda that my mum uses has had a FTP today.

The spring cups on the rear axle have rotten through on one side, broken the spring and collapsed the suspension.  She's on holiday with the car in fecking Cleethorpes and the car has been recovered to a garage there.  She's been quoted £1,000 to fix it!  axles are £100 on ebay and a couple of new springs should be about £50 quid though the labour might add up a bit.  As technically it's still my car I have to either source and deliver replacement parts to garage, have car recovered to me (her breakdown gets her home, not the car!), scrap car in Cleethorpes (book price is between 500-1000) which is least favourite option.

She thought the knocking noise was a bottle of wine in the boot.

Oh and she can only afford £300 worth of repairs.

Been looking at trading my 4x4 panda in for a 2wd panda she could manage and I could "borrow" for longer trips, though as she's had attempted theft of cinquecento (which was written  off), smashed rear window of tango panda due to dodgy area and on street parking (she could park it around the corner off the road but won't) I'm not sure getting her a better car again at my expense is a good idea.

I'll ring the Cleethorpes garage tomorrow and get a better idea of what it actually needs, they used to be able to weld up spring cups or is that another repair nobody wants to do anymore?

So sorry to hear that. Thoughts with the family.

I was going to, but for the spec i wanted it would have been too expensive. Plus the shade of yellow it comes with is awful.

I have some crap skin on my leg which some cream has been treating.

Last night I had an allergic reaction to said cream. Some, erm, parts nearby have swelled and are burning as a a result. Like bastards.

Walk in centre was fairly useless but it's painful to walk because of 'stretchage'. Mainlining strong paracetamol and anthistemines [sic] at the moment. Rang my dermatologist mate in agony and she suggested greek yoghurt and / or aloe vera.

I am at work listening to vapour wave to distract me from THE UNPLEASANTNESS.

Can she not just join a breakdown recovery service and suddenly realise it's knackered on the last day of the holiday?
