The grumpy thread

Picking up the pieces after a suicide, or any sudden death out of the natural order of things is bloody terrible, you don't get over it, ever, no matter how long ago it was.

Someone so despairing to take their own life in a probably violent way, isn't ever going to be thinking rationally of the niceties of discovery and clean up, why would anyone even imagine they would, if they could do that they could possibly be cold hearted enough they could stand outside their own situation and possibly see a way out of their despair, that's hardly on the cards.

Unless you've been there you can never know, even the poor young copper (his first time, baptism of fire for him) who discovered the fact and dealt with our tragedy was reduced to tears at the identification.

I was about to post my own grump on here, but now spent a few minutes reading about the problems for Barry & his family. It puts things into perspective. My thoughts are with you at the moment.

Well I've just been rung up by occupational health to say my 0930 appointment is cancelled and they've got to ring back in the morning as she can't work the system that could book me another appointment.

I'm supposed to start this job in three weeks, it's not even been made official yet and I go on holiday tomorrow afternoon.

Luckily I'm only going to North Yorkshire so I can still go to York but what a fuck about its all been

This fucking weather is really starting to take the piss now. It's been an awful winter full stop this year but now there's yet another load of high winds and pissing rain blowing in tonight.

Will it ever stop!? I honestly can't believe there's so much water on this planet it's been so wet.

Storm Imogen or whatever it's called take your shit and fuck off!

Spent the whole bastard weekend buggering about with cars, replaced engine and box on gf's Ka then fixed the oil leak on the XM. Why grumpy? The Ka is still unusable because the 'new' engine has a cracked sump and a noisy auxiliary belt tensioner and in the process of fixing the XM I knocked some elderly hydraulic return piping which all fell to bits leaving large scale replacement the only way forward.

Let's see what breaks on the Saab tomorrow...

My fully laden bins have already blown over twice - given up now and will just have to get up early to reposition them, otherwise doubtless they won't get collected

I fell over tonight.   Running in the fucking rain - tripped over a stupid little dwarf wall around the car park.  Straight onto the palms of my hand like a fucking toddler.  Cept I'm not a toddler, I am a fucking 14 stone bloke nearly 60 pissed out of his head and now my hands are bleeding.   Fucking rain.  Fucking walls.

If that is a Panda 100hp then I'd be interested in hearing why you hate it so much as I quite fancy one at some point.

Posted

FIL had a 100hp, and I loved it -ride quality was a bit firm, but a brilliant wee car. What Italy does best, apart from Pizza, coffee and scooters.

Posted

I loved the 100hp I test drove years ago even at £6k, just too small for what I needed at the time.

I must say how delighted* I am to have been inundated with discount offers on new Vauxhalls about .3 nanoseconds after I bought one.

On fleet news my daughter's year 2000 Punto has done a FIAT and the steering goes heavy occasionally, and the Corsa just decides not to tickover when warm.

Crap, was supposed to be on a later today, forgot and came in early as usual for a Monday.

Hey ho, I'll stop working for an hour then

I'm supposed to be at work right now.

Bastard Dartford crossing authorities have closed the bridge yet again.

Last time they did this, less than a fortnight ago, it took me four and a half hours to do a ten minute journey.

I saw the queue tonight and turned round and came back home.

I've got a workmate stuck in the queue, so he's going to text me if it clears.

May just kick it into touch tonight though.

It is quite windy out....

Oh mate, you don't know how many times they've closed this bloody bridge.

I accept it's windy, but the disruption round here is horrendous.

If only they'd built another tunnel.

I came home to find the wobbly bit of fence blown down. Didn't surprise me, but next door came out (think she was waiting for one of us to get home) and apologised. I said there's no need to apologise, it's been wobbly for years. Offered help bodging the rest solid for now, as the bit that faces the road is really wobbly, and I have some long random bits of wood down the side of the shed. Apparently she's got people coming round to quote for a whole new fence, which will be nice, and means we can get rid of the horrible bush growing up it our side, so win there!

I may even be able to fire the incinerator up too if more blows down!

Actually, that's not really a grump, we get on fine with the neighbors! Hey ho, it's wind related grumblings. Bloody ZX is crap in the wind though, 55 on the way home, I'd go the back way but it'll take twice as long and knowing my luck a tree will be down or something

A certain naval themed insurance company has cocked an important detail up on my policy AGAIN.

Hope the renewal's a tenner, lads - else you can whistle.

We've got a Mexican standoff on the fence right now. One panel blew out last year, then another just before Christmas. Now there's two more gone and that totals about half the garden, the rest is looking suspect too.

The deeds say it's their fence. I had an chat last year and he clearly wasn't keep on footing the whole bill himself, but our fence on the other side will need doing and I'm not sorting both.

The other problem is that three out of five houses in a row are owned by his family so they think they're some sort of local celebrities.

Ebay jizzmoppers again.

Stupid woman thinks I'm ripping her off 'cos it said £5 and I'm trying to con her by charging £25. Tried explaining to slack Alice if you select 2nd class post it's a fiver, if you select 9am special delivery it's £25. I'm a con man and cancel it and she will buy again and pay £5. Cancelled, added to BBL, no more problems from stupid woman.

Knob jockey buys pool ball gear knob on saturday, wants to know exact day it will be delivered. I check his feedback left for others 'cos he's triggered my spidey sense, and 1 in 5 feedbacks left is a negative that 'it never arrived'. That'll be going hermes then. No doubt I'll get a neg that the micra ball I sold him doesn't fit his diesel maxi.

Someone I know* on arsebook has described their 2012 aldi as "it is in the twilight of its years". Cos it has 72K km. That's 45K real money miles.  Fuck off.

Thinking of getting rid of my SD1.

Body shops won't even give me a ballpark figure for a paintjob, I do not have the time or space to do it myself.

Sad considering the amount of time, effort and sweat I have put into it, but such is life.

I know a man who will quote on your rover - he's very good and does a lot of classic work, but his prices remain reasonable because of the low overheads you get when you are in the NE of England. Stuff comes on a wagon from all over - he just did an early 911 for someone in London. PM me some details about what needs doing (and a pic or two I can show him) and I'll ask about price and availability tomorrow. I'd bet that the cost of transport is less than the difference in price.

First world problems and all that but I travel to work on the Fenchurch Street line operated by c2c. Used it for 15 years and has been totally excellent.

Two months ago they introduced a new timetable based upon more trains with more space - sounds good right? But what has been introduced is I now have four trains an hour with four carriages each where I used to have three trains with eight carriages each. Basic maths suggests that we now have 16 carriages where we used to have 24.

But that's OK because the trains now have more space - because they have removed 30 percent of the seats so we have more room to stand. Now that's ok for ten minutes on a tube but when you are crammed in like a sardine for forty five minutes every morning it's not fun. One bloke even tried to force me off the train at Barking so he could get on instead, fucking ridiculous.

The train company is getting it in the neck for the decline in service but all we get is a Gallic shrug. Ultimately it's not as if we have a choice of rail operators. Shame as it used to be so good but "improvements" have made it ghastly and their management there don't give a fuck. They even have the local MP's having a go and nothing gets done.

Can't help but wish we lived in France sometimes, Fenchurch Street would be full of sheep and trains would be ablaze across the South East by now. They know how to protest!!

You try signalling that service! The trains barely get a green in the peak! I still keep forgetting to wave Parky :)

Whereabouts are you usually sitting Andrew, I will wave as I go by! (Provided I can lift my arm up amongst all the bodies that is)

My steering lock seems very reluctant to release recently, hope it's not an omen. Is it worth getting another (dumb thankfully) key cut? Problem is it will be cut from the worn key, or would that be ok?

Or is jizzing some plusgas/wd40 at the barrel a good idea?
