The grumpy thread

Back at work after 5.5 days off today. I can't say it was especially taxing or anything, but the more time I have off, the more I'm looking forward to retirement. I'm still hoping that's about 5 years away now.

Spent the break between Christmas and New Year up in the mountains in North Carolina. That's not my grump but while I was up there I decided to order a near rear brake hose for the Plymouth so that I could fit it on my return. The rear end on the car is from a 1974 Ford Maverick and RockAuto had the part in stock for less than $15.

When I got back home on New Year's Day I eagerly opened the package and found this waiting for me.

The date code on the hose was 08/95 and there's no way I'm fitting a 20 year old brake hose.

Turned into a grin though as RockAuto refunded my money straight away and I ordered a different brand which has since arrived and is in new condition.  Fitment, along with an adjustable proportioning valve should happen this week.

You need an MDM platfotm, such as Airwatch or the like.

We do actually use Airwatch but as these students had set and forgotten their passwords before installing the Airwatch client there was nothing we could do. We don't have time to set up such a large number of iPads in advance so the students are given brand new sealed  iPads and it's their responsibility to install and configure the software they need but inevitably we have to pick up the pieces when they get it wrong.

Bloody AA breakdown I will never understand how any company can not only charge existing loyal customers more than new customers but admit they do and even try to rationalise it......even having the cheek of explaining that our supposedly  "free of charge"  gold membership benefits are not available to new members, the brainwashed call centre numpties even seem to think it was a good thing and could not understand when I explained that our "FOC benefits were costing us £40 .... Not only have they lost £110 a year but also another £250+ they would have had in car insurance when it comes up for renewal soon..... and we will never use them for anything again as I try not to use any company run totally by accountants..... all for the sake of £20...they even had the cheek to say that if we waited for six weeks we could then be a "new customer" and get the cheaper price... yes you can fuck off with your stupid business model there AA....we have just joined the RAC for £40 less for the same cover....

What Disco' do you have JB? If it's a Disco 1, wheel bearing play is very common and easily adjusted or cheaply replaced. Do you grease the prop' UJ's?

It's a 2, so stupid replace the entire hub for wheel bearing, and sealed for life no nipples mega expensive prop :(

Prop uj's are £11 each, you can get them with nipples if you buy the kgn ones

Fucking skin chaps on my fingers . Despite using moisturiser every night I still get them every time it gets a tiny bit cold . Makes my job v unpleasant

Posted

Aye, it's a total bastard. Mine get like that if I work out in the cold much, or get careless and get solvents on my hands at work, the ends of the fingers split and it flipping kills. Every time you put your hand in your pocket it pulls the thing open worse, so when I get a really bad one I super glue it up.

"Okeefes Working Hands" cream seems to clear them up in about 10 days.

iFads in corporate or educational settings just shouldn't happen. Great for home use, but they're toys and unsuitable for real work.

To the Twatwazzock who had zero rear marker lights on whilst towing a Kangoo in the fog on the A20, I bloody hope you got home in 1 piece, cuz that was flipping silly!

I made the mistake of showing an interest in joining UBER. Now I'm getting bombarded with texts that refer to me as a "partner" and inviting me to "onboarding" sessions. I have no idea what onboarding is but I do know I don't want to be involved in a company that uses that word.

Maybe they take you on a surfing holiday to Cornwall as a thank you for joining the company.

This is the second day Mrs Tet has used the Pajero since I did the brakes.

I've not had a phone call yet telling me she's got a problem with the car.

Two days without a Paj problem. Looking good.

Just taken the dogs to the park, dodging showers so carefully timed. Got up there and it is blowing a gale and bitterly cold and the ground is well scquagy (new word) and this is the driest park in the area.

My trainers started to leak in grand style (I drag my left foot so tend to wear shoes out fast!) and I was getting wet tootsies and then fat Chester, bored because we were the only daft buggers out so he had no one to annoy/play with (delete as applicable!) jumped up at me and stuck his claw in the tiny hole in the knee of my jeans (trendy bugger me! :)   ) I know have a new style of jeans: shorts on one leg and normal on the other!

Ho hum....

So, called into the Rowcroft' 'boutique' (really, it is not a 'normal' charity shop, 'cos posh round here innit!) and bought a pair of kegs with two trouser legs and got a brand new pair of trainers (in bright yellow no less!) and a pair of 'converse' baseball boots (also new) all for £26.

Then, they charged me 5p for a carrier bag but as they had forgotten before I paid on a card for everything else I had to go and get cash from the cashpoint so I could pay!

Wouldn't worry too much about the risk in Turkey, it' a big place and the Turkish Police and Army don't mess about.

"UK faces cocktail of economic risk" says the BBC.

It appears that after six years Gideon can no longer blame new labour - he has to get his excuses in early.

How about "UK faces cocktail of economic risk from ex data inputter cum towel folder."

What ever you think of Labour and Corbyn, I am getting heartily pissed off with this lot.

Ex wife's family live in yalikavac and they and other ex pats seem to be walking on eggshells. I try not to read too much into it on the news and papers but it does get you worried

Came home to SWMBO in a distressed state, neighbour has been playing loud music and intimidating her and my daughter. This isn't the first time we've had problems with neighbours too - just seems like we attract obnoxious nasty people and this incident is the icing on the cake, we have applied for a house exchange where we won't have to get to know our neighbours and keep ourselves to ourselves. Shame that people have to be like that isn't it.

The moral? Be a cunt and you'll get on well with everyone. Rant over.

I wouldn't lose sleep over it, I've never met an ex pat that didn't moan about their chosen country...

Sitting in car park in Kensington with MrsN's Freelander, which has shit its clutch Slavs cylinder again

RAC have subbed to Friendly* recovery, they've just called to say it's going to be another hour, that's on top of the 2 hours so far. I've driven from B'ham so that Mrs can drive home in my car( in Milton Keynes) which she's done, in less time than these jokers have taken not to get here because of heavey traffic.

Oohing to do with not wanting to lose a truck for 4 hours, I'm sure.

On phone and no glasses. So sorry if gibberish.

The interesting bit of the above is the word "again"

I had a nightmare with my manual Range Rover p38, two clutch slave seals, new slave cylinder, new master cylinder and it was a worn roll pin.
