The grumpy thread

Woken up with both my ears blocked up woth wax. Ones been doing it for a while every night but usually sorts itself out as I drive to work, both still blocked though.

Will be a weekend of olive oil spray then the doctors for a syringe next week i think

Christ, both ears being blocked is one of the worst things in the world.

Ear irrigation and the departure of wax is one of the most satisfying things in the world, however.

I already had one new eardrum from a graft from my neck when I was 10 due to crappy grommits, not having another. Some careful twisting with cotton buds and more oil spray has sorted one out now.

6 times I tried cleaning my ears with a cotton bud.

6 ear infections, 6 lots of antibiotics.

Yet my Mrs does hers all the time no problem.

I'm not sticking them up my bum first or anything, so what's going on?

Posted

Soften the wax with oil or Otex drops, wait 5 days and get a nurse to irrigate it - it's the only safe way to do it, you really shouldn't be sticking anything in your ear holes.

I use a PH0 screwdriver to loosen wax in my ears. The one time I tried Otex it made a right mess, perforated eardrum and orange stuff running down my face for weeks- to be fair the instructions do specifically warn against using it if you've been sticking a screwdriver in your ear.

Once softened collect filter and pop it in Your tank,

I still have a welding splatter hole in mine and its always bunging up and causing headache's, bloody keep getting fobbed of at quacks.

Scooters (that's Vespa type scooters, not Scooters the esteemed Autoshiter) :(

I've nothing against them, or their riders, but there's obviously a big scooter rally on the Isle of Wight this weekend. The reason I know this is that I live just up the road from the IoW ferry terminal in Portsmouth, and the soundtrack to my life for the last 2 days has been the constant "Ning Ning Ning Ning" of small 2 strokes from 7 in the morning 'til 10 at night. Let's just say it's starting to get a little wearing. At least when they head home it'll be in batches every 30 minutes as the ferries spit them out.

Your fairly local to me then! I'm just up the A3 in Waterlooville.

I was in Pompey on Friday for work and there was loads of Vespa type mopeds down there then, massive groups of them zipping about through traffic. The noise pisses me off too!

I have a special extra long kirby grip purely for cleaning my ears...

In other news I've been to Oban and back from Glasgow and the Iveco hasn't yet thrown a fault code at me.

Sorry to bring the thread down but I've found out this week that MUTHA_GG has contracted Stage 3 lung cancer.

Not sure how long she's had it (we think about three months from initial symptoms of loss of vision and unable to move on her left leg) and tests revealed some spotting on her lungs and brain. We're going to blast it with radiotherapy but not sure what will happen.

I'm getting married in January so she needs to be unselfish and turn up!

This all coming just a month after I lost my uncle to the same thing and 9 months after my auntie having a fatal stroke. Not been a great time so far. My daughter and family are the only things keeping me going at the moment.

Any help/virtual support greatly received.

Cripes, really sorry to hear that, chief. Fingers crossed for the radiotherapy, hope it works out mate.

GGS, fingers and toes and various other bits crossed. Modern medicine is wonderful so her chances have never been better

True they can do amazing things now.

Having a wedding to focus on will help I'm sure.

Wish her all the best.

Have a virtual manly hug from me GGS. Your wedding might be the motivation MUTHA_GG needs to fight it...

Just grab anything pointy to hand and have a fish around. Wood screws, pencils, straws..... It'll be fine.

My late father-in-law, a traditional Scottish GP of the 'old school' once advised: "never put anything in your ear smaller than your own elbow."

GG: virtual man-hugs...  :(

There's a few of us around here...I'm in Gunwharf Quays, and I'm sure there's another 'shiter in Southsea.

Cancer is a shit! I lost an uncle to it a few years ago so I have a great deal of sympathy for you and your family. Fingers crossed the treatment is successful.

Just picked up a stone chip in the merc. I think a bird dropped a stone as nothing in front to kick up anything from the road. That's two in two months now with none in the previous 25 years! It's national windscreens again (via aviva) and they did the fiat ok in June. Booked in for repair on Saturday- although a £10 excess this time.

I went to the garage this afternoon, I could hear a rat scuffling around at the back but couldn't get to it or make it leave. I had the GENIUS idea of coming home and fetching a cat to flush it out with. It took about 5 minutes for the rat to leave, and almost another hour to catch the cat. I briefly considered borrowing a dog but decided that the inevitable conclusion to that would involve setting a tiger to try and catch the bear I released earlier....

Cat was eventually teased out with a lazer pointer :D

GG, can only send words of encouragement and virtual man hugs. Hope everything goes well for your mum.

Sorry for you Pete - lots of love and encouragement needed.

Me and my wife were told on Friday that our newborn son has Down syndrome.

While I Cannot say that I will be able to buy the best things in life for him, he will not be short of love and affection.

Posted

...which, I reckon, is all he will need. It's difficult not to sound patronising, but fair play to you for thinking that way.

Posted

There are much worse things your new born could have wrong with him than downs syndrome, the love is the most important thing everything else is just material and unimportant

With love and support, children with DS can grow to live happy, full and independent lives.

Close friends of ours have a daughter with Downs the same age as our son and she is a delight and in some ways ahead of our son.
