I'm really unimpressed with the above.  Today has been one of those days where I feel really frustrated at my lack of creativity and when I've made myself sit down and create *something* this is all I've achieved.  I need a change of scenery or something, I'm feeling really stagnant art-wise just lately.

I honestly don't see how you could be unimpressed with that   :-)

Look at the wheels, they're wrong, and every time I redraw them I make them worse.  Sense of perspective is messed up because there's no background of any sort even sketched in so you can't really tell you're viewing the car from a lower than usual angle.  The whole thing just feels clumsy to me and lacking any sort of direction or life.  It feels pretty flat and uninspiring... I'm just having one of those 'artist moments' or something.  When it gets me really bad I break stuff or get lost in something mechanical to clear my head out a bit so I'll probably go to the unit tomorrow if this virus-cold has properly left my system.

Ah, "that" cold virusy thing. I understand your frustrations. I suggest going for a drive, nowhere in particular, just an amble around in no such direction. I find it allows my 'other' brain to sort itself a bit while the boring bit of my brain is pre-occupied in the driving bit.

Hmm, now I've typed it out, it sounds a bit weird. Oh well, I'm weird, can't complain.

Yeah so chew on that!!!! SEPARATE ADMINISTRATIVE AUTHORITIES!!!! 'AVE IIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!

Both are full of rat-faced drunkard ginger bastard jocks though so it was an easy mistake to make.

bloody hell i wish i could draw summin like that austin....

when in a place like that, with nothing working out no matter what  you try, then it is better to put it to one side and come back to it another  day, you'll be in a better frame of mind.

Don't be a fartburger. Your art brought tears to the eyes of Mark's parents when I presented them with it, there is power to your work, take a break if you need to, but don't be so hard on yourself.

The whole thing just feels clumsy to me.

Well, what do you expect? They looked pretty clumsy from the factory. Slightly overinflated. Give it three-spoke Corsa wheel trims. It'll be fine then.

Posted

Ruff:  I was happy with that piece and it had a lot of effort put into it to get it right, your direction helped a lot in getting Mark to look as he ought.  I don't know if to be glad or not of such an emotional response to it from his parents, I only hope it's something they will enjoy owning.

Reading back I do sound a bit like I'm fishing for compliments on that Austin picture, I'm not.  I've put it in my folder of stuff to tackle another day, a surprising number of that stuff gets binned, I binned some today because I wasn't feeling it.  Art is hard, bashing cars with hammers to make them work is easy.

Posted

I can easily tell that I'm viewing it from a lower angle, because I can see the inside of the roof through the windows. Nothing else contradicts that, perspective-wise. I can't see a problem with the wheels - the front wheels appear to be turned slightly to the left, but that could be deliberate? But then I R NOT ARTST.

First off, have you pressed the reset switch on the side of the housing whilst the machine is reclined and turned on? Also jab the brushroll on/off switch that sits by the on/off button.

Still nothing? Doesnt surprise me...

Yes, they all do that sir! 67 hours of life according to Johnstone, the makers of the motor!

You'll have to do some troubleshooting unelss you want to just replace the motor...

http://manchestervacs.co.uk/DysonForum/index.php/topic,108.0.html

shows the process very well tbh. It's not too bad, but a bit fiddly.

Once you get the cover off from the tutorial, grab a multimeter. Unplug the motor from the PCB. With the machine reclined to the vacuuming position, and turned on, you want to find 330v DC coming from this black plug

upload_-1.jpg

If there's 330v, it's the motor. Available here http://manchestervacs.co.uk/Dyson/DC24-spare-parts.html/DC24-brushbar-johnson-motor-914703-03

If you havent got 330v from the pcb, then you need to swear, then buy either a new pcb first then try the motor, or buy both... http://manchestervacs.co.uk/Dyson/DC24-spare-parts.html/DC24-PCB-Reset-Module-917831-01

99% of the time it's the motor, BUT, I replaced both the main motor and the brushroll motor for a chap the other day (£120 all in including my labour fee!) (PCB was healthy, 330v etc).

3 days after he had it back I get a snotty message, it's stopped. Had blown a contact right off the PCB the bastard. I have a DC24 at the moment to refurb and sell, so nicked the working pcb from that and fitted it. It did this to itself http://manchestervacs.co.uk/DysonForum/index.php/topic,1684.0.html

The pic above was taken JUST NOW as I bought a second hand one from someone to replace it! I;d get a new one though, will last longer and be less of a trip into the unknown (cost me a tenner, but I'm only 40% sure it will actually work tbh)

Then hope it lasts 4 months before it goes again... (I hate the 24).

Once I;ve finished my 24 I have a thread to put up on mvacs so if you need any future help you should find it!

Luckily Mvacs bought 3000 of the motors so got a megabarg with them, were £40ish previously - http://manchestervacs.co.uk/DysonForum/index.php/topic,914.0.html. I've used a few, they are very good (well they would be, their genuine)

I had a DC25 in January with a sparky motor, they do this as well - http://manchestervacs.co.uk/DysonForum/index.php/topic,1599.0.html

The pcb works!

Just need to tweak the changeover valve and refit a spring that holds the bin flap rod in and she's up for sale. Will be on eBay though, with no returns or warranty! Shitters discunt available though if anyone wants it for £70 plus post... Full Cavcraft style warranty given

For what it's worth I think the Austin pic looks good, I'd stick it in a frame and hang it on a wall!

The joy of artistry is everybody says "wow, that looks great" and you look at it and think "no, it's shit. I hate it, everything is wrong, stop liking it.". What's worse is when somebody asks if you can draw something for them, you think "yeah, sure. It'll be good practice" and then you find yourself 5 hours in and hating it. I'm an over ambitious perfectionist with a low level of patience, doesn't help. :D

I find I can't look back at 90% of the stuff I've drawn in the past and not want to gouge my eyes out due to the embarrassment of ever thinking it was worth putting online.

St Helens what a fkn dump

Agreed.

Come to think of it, everywhere is becoming a fkn dump.

Crap financial products targeted at the old and gullible.

Obviously there's the twat on the telly with his 'funeral plan' where you can pay him a gajillion thousand pounds over the next 30 years to get 2K back when you finally croak which will prolly buy a mars bar by then.

But there are others. Ma had a leaflet for a shiny happy stocks n shares ISA. Took a lot of digging on their website to find out what the actual charges are, but as expected it's a big fat con. You're buying units in their  tracker fund with a large management charge. And 60% of what you pay in the first year goes to the printer of the glossy leaflets as commission. Give them £2000 for 10 years, and if their fund manages to scrape 5% growth you get back £2800. You may as well stick it under the mattress.

But hey, you get a crap plastic pen for applying.

Maybe the wheels are not quite right, but the rest of it is fantastic. It's instantly recognisable as an Austin. I can sort of draw, but nothing like as well as that.

Oh I saw *** (my brother in law, entire section of family estranged and despised) on FB the other day. It was in my timeline. Also only one of his sons is on FB.

Really? How totally and utterly uninteresting, why even bother looking? Never liked or trusted the cunt.

Congratulations Mrs. PBK, you have just raised my irritation level to amber just at the mere mention of this arsehole.

St. Helens was a vast improvement over Toxteth when we moved there in 1972. We lived opposite Sherdley Park and it was amazing, hardly spent any time at home in the summers.

Moved back when married, lived about 5 houses down from my sister. The entire place had turned into a complete fucking dump for interbred fuckwits. Moved away when mum died. Only popped back to see dad, couldn't be arsed with anyone else. Dad died in 1999 and have never been back since and have zero interest in the place or the people.

So, yeah, can't say I'm the best of spirits right now...

In which case, when BusBoy gets back from arsing about in Watford, are you up for doing something uplifting, amusing and (above all) stupid?  :)

The Devon pic looks spot on to me! Who's commissioned it?

Nobody, I just needed to do some not-commission work to refresh a bit.

Fuggin Tapatalk again - Now, if you accidentally click on the list of people that have "liked" a tread, there's no back button to return to the thread. Instead, you have to go back to the main menu and start again.

Tapatalk really is a buggy piece of codeshite.

Yes please!

In a better mood today but the cloud of no-hope is still hanging over me. Oh well, hey ho.

I was meant to have my train driver medical yesterday. Took the train heading down to London. The train in front broke down, ended up over an hour late so missed the slot it is rearranged for Monday week and I wasted 6 hours.

Posted

I'm sorry, but the irony is strong there. Being late for a train driver medical because train problems? At least they can't get too grumpy with you!

Posted

I know, you couldn't make it up. Funny thing is it was a train for the new company that broke down. They were very good about rearranging it.

Fuck and shit, my ps3 is dead :-( it's age related overheating and it's possible that even fixing it won't work.

Okay, I've officially had enough of this manflu thingy. It can fuck right off NOW, not in a few days, not when it feels as though it's made my life as miserable as it can, NOW.

Oh, and it's another week for me in Watford starting Sunday. Same bloody hotel (it really is the only one in the area I have a chance of getting the bus in the car park). Happy days.

Fucking.......what? I just cant even.....

Brother in law phoned yesterday asking if I would go and look at some cars with him today, Yeah no problem.

6.5 hours driving and we viewed a grand total of 1 car. Well, we looked at the exterior of 1 car as the seller wasnt there to sell it.

I dunno....call me old fashioned if you like but I would think that BEFORE LEAVING THE FUCKING HOUSE he should perhaps have done stuff like phone to see if the cars that interest him are still available, phone to see if the garage with a few in stock is open on Saturdays and find the fucking address of the other garage that interested him.

It wasnt until we got to the first city that he pulled out a playing-card sized bit of paper with scribbled numbers all over it that he couldnt decode himself, having no idea which phone numbers related to which cars or garages. Oh and the one garage that was open, he never brought the address for, so it wasnt until he phoned them to ask where they were that we found he had got the name of the town wrong and it would be another 90 kilometers further away.

WTF did my sister see in this clown?
