The grumpy thread

Wives - do no guilt your husband into not going out and enjoying what he likes on the premise of shopping for a barbecue to be held tomorrow for your family. When you then go off and enjoy doing what you want to do, leaving said husband to reflect on the totally wasted day until you finally manage to come back, don't be too surprised if he's feeling "a little off".

I could just go off anyway but the wrath that would invoke can only be understood by the brow beaten husband society.

Similarly, a visit to a farm shop followed by an evening with the in-laws is not a good way to spend the last day of my holidays.

If I may offer an alternative perspective.

As attractive as the single life may seem, endless pizza, beer, porn, stripping carbs on the coffee table and leaving the toilet seat up does eventually get boring.

Griz it up, lads. Trust me on this.

What a joyous weekend. Following on from the windscreen debacle,my mot is due in a few weeks and can't see paying for new windscreen if it's going to fail mot big time. I really like the vectra especially due to it being an auto and it's nice to drive so it's going in for a Pre mot check up with my friendly mot tester on Monday. I can swallow a new windscreen and maybe another ton to get it through a test and keep the car but if it it's going to cost a shed load then it's not gonna be worth it. Anyway back to the grump. I know the exhaust has a rasp but the bloody top end has started tapping really loud tonight. Sounds like a hydraulic lifter is not right.

This is basically my view, i fucked up, and its probably not worth my time spending a tenner sending a £20 part back.

My view too, although I may be legally entitled to a full refund including postage, if it's my mistake then I'll hold my hand up. Which makes it even the more galling when some businesses try and refuse to pay the return postage on an item which is faulty!

After my successful day out on a bus trip decided to see where else they are going. Hmmm, Bletchley park. That'll do. Educational.

Bzzzt! WRONG. How stupid of me to think that I could have 2 days off in the same year. Idiot sister has already bagsied that day for a right keg, and we're looking after her dog. I'm also in the wrong club for pointing out the bitch (sister not dog) is taking the piss by dumping the dog on us constantly. If I wanted a dog I'd go find some pikies.

Bah! Small bits of shit luck coming to haunt me again. Got flashed by a speed camera in Church Gresley coming back from a family gathering. Also found out that my last speed awareness course was 2 years ago, not 3 as I'd hoped. 3 points and a £60 fine incoming...

I think the fine might have gone up to £100 Mo, as my recent course at £90 was cheaper than the fine.

To be fair, much as we hate them, that's a fair cop not bad luck. Limits are limits and they got me good and proper.

We're going camping. I have a cold. I think because I went to a cafe where one of the workers had a cold. FFS. GO HOME IF YOU'RE ILL!

Also, the XM, which I painstakingly cleaned, is now covered in mud. I knew I shouldn't have bothered. It did look good though. For five minutes.

Also, also, Retro Cars Live next weekend has been cancelled. I was looking forward to hurtling across the country in a BMW-powered 2CV. Oh well.

Two raffles yesterday and I won neither of them.

Back to porridge Monday....

Upside down? How on earth did I manage that?

I have seriously over done it today so I expect I will be in agony by about ten tonight. Double dose of opiates again later I fear so if I suddenly disappear and never post mindless drivel again, you know why :(

Send flowers...

Hoovered, carried the dog after she hurt herself, got very wet, shoes now outside on the line drying.

Fucking boot lock on the boring isn't opening. I can hear the central locking doing something but the lock won't open on the key or fob.

Not long ago I replaced the lock mechanism, this time it sounds like the motor bit. Why the fuck do they put electric locks in places where mechanical would easily suffice.

When is the FCA going to do something about the car insurance industry? They're a shower of shite's who rope you in with introductory offers then double your premiums the next year, add in extra products you don't want and charge massive cancellation and vehicle transfer fee's.

The rant comes from the fact that last year I moved out of a company car scheme. I'd kept my no claims on a trade policy (10 years). Not one normal insurance company would touch this. What difference does it make? I drove a car for 10 years and didn't crash it why does it matter other than the fact the don't want to honour it. The AA said they'd take my 6 years company car no claims bonus because guess what? I hadn't crashed or claimed in that time.

It comes to this year and my insurance cost has doubled with the AA. Weird but I went through the normal hoops and got it with a different company for a good price. I get the letter through from the AA and it has 1 years no claims bonus on it. Weird as I have an email from the AA saying they've taken the 6 years from my company car no claims. I called them back (after waiting 20 minutes on my phone). Oh that 6 years doesn't car into the next year and is non transferable. Fucking what!  Absolute wankers it was obviously just a scam to get me in with the hope I'd renew at the higher rate the next year. This means now calling up my new insurance company and explaining what happened and no double being stiffed for an extra load of ££££ for my lack of no claims.

I've dealt with one good insurance company in the last 10 years and that was the lot who insured my CL500 as they're a small company and don't try to upsell or shaft you. I should have just tried to insure my Juke with them.

We have a recently 'promoted/enabled' engineer (now Field Engineering Manager) who has decided to climb to the top via a tower of procedures, of his own creation, and which he vigorously polices.

We get a stream of nag mail, complaining we don't follow [his] processes and he has a twee way with CAPITALS as EmPhAsIs..

Aneehoo... I just this minute GOT another...

We M.U.S.T. read and respond confirming we understand the content.

I am SO tempted to mail back -

"No One Gives A FCUK U m.o.r.o.n!"

Ah well, prapps not ;)

Yep. Nowhere else in life are you legally obliged to buy a product from a private company.

They are a law unto themselves and just blatantly make shit up as they go along.

There are shady business practices in pretty much all industries, but insurance seem to be one of the worst and yet they appear to be given carte blanche to just do as they please.

If a shop dicked around with prices and payment plans like insurance companies did, Trading Standards would be all over them.

I'd email him back and ask politely what the Manchester United Supporters Trust has got to do with internal company processes.

P.s. just because you understand doesn't mean that you will slavishly follow.

Exactly

They claim they're regulated, that has to be the loosest sense of the word. They follow their own rules when it comes to discounts and NCB.

The way forward has to be a nonprofit organisation that compensates in the event of an accident. The more millions that the insurers make, the more it takes the piss because you don't have any alternative but to pay them and you're clearly paying too much.

I decked about with the insurance last week after my renewal was about £60 more.

I'm with one call direct who are just brokers but they still came out cheapest on comparison sites and they have all the benefits* (as in breakdown and protected no claims). Woman I eventually got to speak to was a cock and said it cost £30 extra as an existing customer as that's how they make their money..

Anyway after some debate and me saying I'll just move company she found* a classic policy that's £114 still have to pay the £30 though. Not too bad as it's like paying for the breakdown cover but I know I won't build any more no claims, saying that I'm on full at 10 years.

Thought I would try footman James though as the Frontera is with them. After spending ages on their shit website they say that can't insure it? It's 5 years older than the one they already insure kept at the same address??

Posted

Is NCD actually a thing? I got quotes for the Cavcraft Rover and it was £133 for a normal policy (i.e. not classic) with no NCD. I pay something like £200 on the Volvo with full No Claims.

I had to have a medical today... Fuck me, that was not a medical, the 'doctor' ate a carrot, complained about the Romanians in the NHS and said I was fat.

Also I can't fall asleep driving down the m6 😕
