The grumpy thread

Recommended Posts

Now I know I started this off so I'd like to finish it. The thread didn't bother me that much until some anti-religious comments started appearing when it was obvious it was starting to go down the path of Fred Transit's thread a few months back where religion had the spotlight shone on it. We had the strong opinions on religion a few months ago, why are we having it again was my question.

I know there are a few here that have to chuck in a strong opinion one way or the other. I like to think I respect others views but I'm also aware that some subjects might tug at peoples senses the wrong way so I avoid the issue if I can.

I say let the thread be, let it sink/keep going. But also, just remember that these issues might irk some here. Yes I know I should have ignored it and maybe I shouldn't be so sensitive, but you live and learn.

This issue has been made into a mountain out of a molehill, probably not helped by my grump. Lets leave it at that.

To lighten* the mood a little, we've just unexpectedly run out of heating oil. That'll be £375+ then, which will be paid for out of the money I get for the Xantia - oh, minus the welding that it needs before I sell it - which puts my desperately-needed van purchase even further away than it already was.

I've never had an oil-fired house before, and while it's apparently more efficient than gas, I'd much prefer spending £80 on a pair of bottles to spunking 5 times that all in one go. Yes, I know I should be putting money aside towards it every month, but budgeting is for pussies.

I've got mates who own Indian takeaways and restaurants and the torrents of abuse they seem to be willing to take on a nightly basis just to earn a living surprises me, Evil Warren would of popped out of his box long before and resorted to a bout of extreme violence hours before their tolerance runs out. I did post on here many years ago about an incident when myself and the owner of a take away were having a smoke outside his shop when a black Vectra full of EDL sophisticates slowed down and screamed "Paki Lover" at me, for daring to talk to a mate but alas I wasn't as quick witted as I should of been according to one AS contributor and I missed out on the opportunity to scream "Vectra Lover" back at the car.

It's too easy to get into a row about religions v. atheists, banger racers v. the womens institute etc. And yeah, I'm a H8er. But I think we need to look a little more closely at what is annoying about these organisations, what do they have in common that makes them so easy to hate, it's that they're groups, and whenever humans form their fruity little groups they all start acting the same smug way, think they have all the answers, everyone else is wrong and their shit don't stink. Bastards.

EDL, Buddhists, ebayers, Beliebers, MGOC, Hitlers youth, new age travelers, residents associations, weirdos on internet forums, fascist wankers the lot of them and as bad as each other.

My hatred of people carriers is immeasurable, not just for the manner in which they're driven but the way they allow a sufficient number of people to congregate and start plotting how they'll control everyone outside their shitbox, those Volvo estates with the extra back seat are as bad. People need to keep their eyes down and mouths shut, or may the Lord smite them down.

That doesn't work either. I tried that and a Hare Krishna nun still tapped me for five quid when I was out bus spotting.

Do not under any circumstances accept a box which they claim contains a Hare Krishna CD. It contains a Hare Krishna CD.

(I don't have a problem with The Krishna Conciousness or any other religions or spiritual movements btw.)

Perhaps we could have a thread - preferably in the other place - on disabled atheist banger racers who are also local councillors.

Keep it all together. That should do it...

It's fine getting offended, just don't respond in the thread. Just ignore it. Simples.

It's AS Confession Corner...

Dear Corsaviour and the Esteemed Mingebag Motoring Community,

Today I drove a 2006 VW Passat TDi estate and quite liked it. This follows on from driving a similarly aged A6 TDi auto estate some months ago and also finding it fairly acceptable. I have never owned a VAG group car and until now found any examples I've driven to be diresome and full of woe, but lately I have been questioning my shiteist credentials. Is there anything I can do to appease the Shite Gods, or am I doomed to a forum life of blue?

A worried shiter,

cms - as the owner of a VAG tdi I see nothing wrong with your behaviour. You just need to make sure you buy something old enough to run on "diesel" that comes in 5l containers that can be found inside the supermarket. Then you remove/block the EGR valve and put out huge clouds of black smoke on to anything that comes vaguely close. Whatever you do though, do not buy an automatic.

This annoys the fuck out of me, I used to help out at a Bangladeshi friends curry house while most people were respectful and nice you always got the tosser who thought he'd be funny and many occasions evil fordperv got the better of me, the occasion that sticks in my head was when a chavvy little spunkbag who was about 18 decided to open the door while Abdul the chef was talking to me, he shouted some really offensive stuff, so I legged it to the door and confronted him exchanged a few words, he said "I wasn't saying it to you what are you getting wound up about" so I told him "these guys are extended family so you are insulting me, anyway you should know about family your mum and Dad are probably closely related you inbred small minded fucktard" I gave him an option to sincerely apologise to Abdul and Ali and think about what he says to people, fair play to him he shook their hands apologised and everytime he walked past after that he raised his hand and nodded to say hello.

The wife came home last night and reported that her alfa 147 was goosed. Red lights on the dash, steering very heavy, strange noises from the engine.

I wouldn't mind, but when we got the car last year I put it in the garage for a new timing belt, water pump, idler pulleys, fan* belt etc. All parts supplied by me coz I was going to do it myself but took the lazy option.

I'm worried that, if the fan* belt has gone already, has it got a seized pulley? I assume the aircon compressor is a likely culprit. It's a 1.9 fiat diesel engined '06.

Can't be arsed to even open the bonnet and have a look.

Dear Confused,

The solution to your dilemma is obvious.

You need to buy another Volvo.

My Mrs had the same with our old mk3 golf. I went out to rescue them and dump it at the weighbridge on the way home only to find that the alternator belt had snapped which also powered the water pump hence all the lights and stuff. Cheap fix at the factors and back on it's merry way.

Fingers crossed them same goes for you.

It's definitely the belt that's gone, I've just removed the remains of it. What was worrying me was why it should go after only being replaced 6 months ago. All the pulleys are spinning free with the engine switched off so fuktivino.

it failing that quick could just be the fact that new parts are made to budget to make them cheaper at the factors so they use shit materials to make them, id buy a couple so you've got one on the shelf in case 6 months time you have a replay you've got one to hand then

Dear MostofTheM56,

the left hand lane is only for wankers, feel free to use the others as some sort of personal road set aside just for you. Indicators and manners are also for wankers.

Thanks (for fuck all)

Captain Corsa.

Oh, you'll be worried alright. Mostly when you're up to your knees in water when you buy one.

Is it possible to like a VAG product enough to pay actual money for one? Most disturbing if so...

Anyone noticed the latest thing, people who indicate when turning right, but not when turning left?.Really starting to do my head in

also, the recent trend for driving at night with sidelights on along with fogs/spots instead of dipped beam. WTF is wrong with people?

My laptop has decided it will no longer play genuine DVDs through PowerDVD. I can copy DVDs on the laptop and PowerDVD will play the copies happily but genuine DVDs stall at the Copyright screen.

My mum and I also agree, it keeps blinding us when coming at us, or reflecting off the mirror into her eyes from behind.

Personally, I'd blast a bit of full beam at these fuckers and see how they like it.

My mum knows I'd do this, her response to someone doing it behind us the other day was to try and blind them with the foglight....

Try VLC player. Seems to play most things I throw at it.

I had one in Brummagem on Friday who signalled left then turned right. He nearly got a three-pointed star embossed hard into the side of his 5-series...  :ssch00101:

Quite probably. In fairness a lot of my dislike for them is because of the (admittedly clever) marketing and the way some people bang on about how great they are. A bit like a motorised iphone/ipad/ipod/Beatles record, I think I sometimes rail against them because I'm sick to the bastarding back teeth of people going on about how good they are, when actually, maybe they ain't all that great.

Finally got the Maestro back home, and did a compression test on it. Result: the head gasket has gone between 1 and 2 cylinders. Bollocks. That would explain the complete refusal to start for me and the poor running during the latter half of Gary's ownership.

I've ordered a head gasket set and I'm just hoping the head didn't get warped when the car overheated. In any case, I think the best thing to do now would be to fit an unleaded head from a post-1990 car. If I can find one.
