The grumpy thread

Yesterday my wife dragged me to Ikea. The one in the North part of București. Surprisingly, IKEA is not the grump. There was an airshow at Băneasa Airport, and everyone and their mother took the four wheeled umbrellas to drive there with picnic tables and lawn chairs, managed to block the parking lot (it's a huge strip mall, search Google maps for "Băneasa mall" if you want to see it from above) and the acces road, which is only the fucking DN1! Equivalent to M1 for getting out of that there London! Anyway, a trip that should have been a 40 minutes car ride was an 70 minutes ride and 20 extra minutes to do the last 200 meters bit and try to find a parking space. And IKEA didn't had the fucking bed we were there searching for! So we had to drive another 40 minutes to the other IKEA, order the bed because they didn't have it either, and another 50 minutes across București to get back home. How was your Saturday afternoon?

Drove back from Kent to the Midlands tonight, trip went fine apart from the usual Dartford queue, then as always as soon as I reach the Midlands everything goes to shit.  M42 suddenly comes to a halt just after the M6 split with no warning on the signs (they were too busy telling everyone about the southbound M42 being shut, nothing about northbound).  Then I get to the crossroads heading into my home town...just as the cops are closing it off to recover two cars that have smashed into each other.

That's not the grump though.  The grump is the driver of the black Fiesta which drove down the wrong side to overtake everyone else sitting patiently in the queue waiting for the police to reopen the road, drove through the cones and sounded their horn as they drove round/through the scene before driving off at fairly high speed.  Don't worry, the cops got your reg number, and I hope you saw the wanker sign I gave you out of my window as well, you utter fucking moron.

Hopefully they'll get their pockets rifled and a few months getting the bus to work while they think about what they did.

Probably stolen if they drive like that and torched by now.

Saturday.  Get off flight from Gothenburg to Stanstead.  Flying in from Landvetter really does show what an utter shithole Stanstead is.

Land at 1625, out of the airport by 1715.  Get in the car to collect the dog from Exmouth.  Get to Exmouth at 1100 after having to detour to Farnham for an hour.  Decide that we're going to drive home from Exmouth to Dover(ish) that same night.  Finally arrive home at 0527, absolutely fucked.  Turns out you can kip at Clacket Lane at 0330 for 20 minutes or so without a care in the World when you've been on the road that long.

That's not the grump.  The grump is that we decided to get click and collect from Sainsburys and then lunch out in Folkestone at 1300.  I did not want to get back into the car as I'd driven all but 3 hours the previous day...

Now I'm happy just taking a friend's cast offs, although we do have flipping loads of bloody phones now, but they all have a purpose/too fucked to be any use otherwise.

Make some money on the next inherited phone? From me, like. Looking at new phones now.

I'm a Pixel convert, have been looking at the 8. I wouldn't buy the 9 though, I'd give it 6 months of updates for them to iron out the kinks (based on what my 6 ownership was like)

I could but never have. Tbh until roughly now they've always had 'a purpose'. The kids both have a phone each now, and when/if the next upgrade happens I can relegate my current phone to filming/spare phone only which will be nice.

This is the same friend who built my pc too and I don't like to profit off him. It all gets passed on one way or another and payment in kind etc. When he gives me an upgrade I give him back the old part and he puts it in the cheap gaming pc's he sells

My parents are flying back from Paris today, well they were. Mum somehow left a bag at security and went back for it from the gate, only to leave dad with both boarding passes. So they wouldn’t let her back in and they missed the flight after delaying it for half an hour. Rebooked a flight with easyJet for 17.25 which still hasn’t boarded. I’ve had to contact Manchester airport meet n greet parking ( not easy to get the phone number!) to reschedule the collection.
their luggage went on without them apparently. Not sure how?

I foresee the next hurdle to be that easyJet lands at t1 Manchester rather than the t2 airfrance did with their luggage and where the car is parked.

Update. Found the car, but luggage reclaim closed at 8pm. So could collect tomorrow or pay £35 for delivery on Thursday. I don’t think I’ll trust them to go away again! It was a bag containing my dad’s medication and silver dressings etc that mum left behind ( how I don’t know), whether that’s worth £500 for the flights and luggage delivery I doubt.

Apparently even something simple like garden twine is made in China. What does the west make these days?

I assume we ( NATO) make all our own military kit ( the secret parts, I’ll bet some parts of the uniforms etc are made in China).
After that I’m struggling.

Their cases once checked in will be passed to a 'Ground Handling Company' who look after the storing and movement of the luggage from terminal to aircraft hold either loose on trollies or containerised in ULD's (unit load device) depending on aircraft type.

Unless the airline tells or requests the Ground Handling Company remove the luggage from the flight it will travel even if the 'self loading freight' (passengers) don't travel on the flight ...

I'm pretty surprised that if they weren't on the flight, they didn't unload the bags - you'd have thought it'd be a security risk having luggage on board without the accompanying passenger.

Yes, I thought bags could never go without their owner because otherwise it's a way of getting a bomb on the plane without killing yourself.  Unless baggage scanning is considered so reliable that couldn't happen anymore?

There are some tricks to not getting your IP stuck in the DoD red tape.  Say you have a contract with a NATo military organisation, and you need to design some control system, for that. If you design it for that contract, using it later for a none military purpose later could be very painful indeed. The US courts might not be happy with your "espionage" .

But if you design it for a none military application first, and then use it later for a military application you are okay.

Mum caused enough of a security risk in the terminal! These pensioners can be quite cunning and slippery.

Is it too much to ask for people to pick up their (business!) phone? Or at least call back if you’re busy?
CC is supposed to be booked at one of, if not the most reputable PSA specialist in Serbia. Called him last week, he picked up, to great shock of everyone who ever met him, told me to call on Monday or Tuesday. Called yesterday. Called today. 5 times. Drove there in the end. He was out testing a car. Ran into his dad(?!) who insisted on calling him for me despite me politely declining. He picked up his call, went, oh, yeah, sorry, come on Thursday morning.
Friend that owned the blue Saxo before me had the pleasure of being booked then never being confirmed as he didn’t answer the phone. My mechanic friend who’s a very good mate of PSA specialist also keeps complaining about him not picking up the phone for days. What the actual fuck? Please get someone to pick up the phone and manage bookings if you CBA, heaven knows no one would complain if you upped the prices by 10 or even 20% to cover for that.

For the record, this is not the first time I met the guy. I was never pushy. I never asked for a car to be fixed immediately or booked for tomorrow. I never asked for a discount, hell, I paid over what I was quoted. In all our previous contacts we were getting along great, chatting about cars and shit. So I really don’t think it’s about me.

Seems to be a symptom of modern times @IronStar, people forget how they actually get money, they're doing you a favour actually talking to you, let alone do any work

I know I'm not alone in trying to contact someone, to have them blank me completely. They actively seem to want to go out of business 🤔

A spider the size of a small cat ran across my feet earlier this morning, I fucking hate spiders 😭

I was on a video call too, being active in it and didn't mute fast enough before swearing, then the thing I went to smash it with didn't work and it ran away..

Went and got a vacuum and spent the rest of the call with it in my hands with my colleagues laughing at me but I've still not found the twat, it's under the TV unit/massive pile of fucked hoovers that one side of my front room consists of

First day back at the school just around the corner from us.  Yep, you can tell.  There's litter everywhere.  Haven't had to pick any up for the last eight weeks save for one day it was really windy on collection day and a few folks bins got blown over.

Today it's bloody everywhere again.

I know it’s a small one compared to war, pestilence and disasters around the world, but those new attached tops on plastic bottles are really annoying me. They just get in the way when you pour and end up with fizzy pop etc everywhere. If you break the tag, they seem difficult to get the thread on straight.

Yup, mentioned about 20 pages back, last month.

Yeh sorry, well done, got there first.

As I said a trivial grump, certainly not warranting researching hundreds of pages to check if someone said it before.

In today’s episode of car that doesn’t want to live:

You know how 307CC has bespoke, stupidly expensive, prone to glue failure tail lamps? Guess what fell off today.

IMG_4752.jpeg.864c83ce7ab23fe72d41e543e4182f1d.jpeg

Four fucking hundred Euros for a piece of fucking plastic off breakers! That’s not getting fucking replaced then. Two on the other side are missing as well (one thankfully in my garage), and it passed technical inspection without them, so fuck it, not fixing unless I run into them stupidly cheap.

In the other news, I managed to get to the PSA specialist, who diagnosed roof with “that’s fucking fucked m9, all the hydraulic pistons are leaking”. Call me on 16th when I get back from holidays, I can’t fix this quickly.

Oh I got check engine on Tuesday as well. Probably secondary air pump acting up again.

Not a good day for a car that’s been pushing its luck for ages now.
