Aye, so I'm done with car shows.

Took the A8 and went to the trouble of typing up a bit of its history  to put in the windscreen. Kept it short and did it in something like 36 point to aid digestion. To be fair, a lot of people did read that, well some of it.

I spent a few weeks tidying it up as best I could, I thought it turned out well.

As soon as I got there 2 older chaps pointed to the out-of-adjustment front bumper and commented on it. Nothing positive to say at all. One other knobhead with those big disc things inserted into a stretched ear lobe looked inside and said 'It's got the cheaper seats' and went on to explain to his friend how his was better. Deliberately within earshot of me. A few other people just laughed at it.

I mean, it's an awesome car at the top of its game at the time and folk think it's funny? 🤷‍♂️

The previous week I went to a Rover 75 meet in Gretna. If people care so much about preserving these cars then they need to treat the younger owners with a bit of respect. I started chatting to one older guy and he literally walked away. Really rude. Keep going like that and the cars will all be long gone withing a decade or so.

Anyway, I'm never going back.

You’ll always get experts * who know everything about every make and model. Car shows are just a focal point for loads of them to be in one place. 
Either avoid or have plenty of bullshit to fire back at them.

Do I expect this to last 22 years with its inverter drive, variable speed compressor and more microprocessors than you can shake a stick at?  No.  I really don't.  I expect it to just about see out the warranty period then fail in some catastrophic and irreparable way.

The last bit is most important sadly. Make sure the warranty is registered and all paperwork filed away. 

I don't know if you do any smart home stuff but would a temp sensor tucked inside it, then set up to alert the world if the temp suddenly becomes x degrees for 15 minutes? If you had home assistant I'd recommend a cheap zigbee temp sensor. 

Or a smart plug, but that assumes it stopped pulling in voltage/there was a big drop when it died

Many years ago I did that in Bristol. Can't remember where I'd been but I drove through St Pauls on my way home. It was a bit odd because there were very few people about but the road and pavements were littered with things. It was only when I got home I found out I'd driven through a riot!

The sort of people you're talking about don't go to the shows to look at the exhibits. Their sole purpose is to parade their so-called knowledge loudly to as many people as possible.

Don't let their inadequacies put you off.

We had the usual ' expert' at one of the land rover autojumbles loudly proclaiming that range rover classics only had two versions of rear lights.

One, go and find someone who gives a shit

Two and a half years our American style fridge freezer Samsung lasted. Compressor locked up and failed. 

5 year warranty. Except only if you register within 4 weeks of purchase. Great. 

10yr warranty on the compressor. Only the compressor cost covered and not labour. That would have been around £600.

Even if I paid to have it fixed or had it done under warranty, it would have taken 3 weeks. A week for them to come out to diagnose, another week for parts and then another week to have them fitted. 

So I begrudgingly bought a new one as Black Friday deals were on and it arrived the next day. Then took 3 deliveries as the first leaked and second was dented internally from the factory.

Some people are on earth just to waste oxygen. Sadly, they’re usually the loudest and most noticeable. I’m sure there was a bunch of nice people actually interested in the car(s) you displayed, took great joy in looking at them, and probably didn’t want to bother you taking about it.

Don’t let the bad ones win and ruin it for everyone.

I witnessed  something similar today with my mates 123 coupe at a show,

One guy wandered up and questioned the 300D boot badge saying "That shouldn't be on there"

He got quite sniffy when told it was actually diesel powered "They never made these as a diesel,only the saloons were"

He the proceeded to point out the rust hole behind the rear screen "That will let the water in,you should fix it"(it is on the cards over the winter)

To which my mate replied "There is an even bigger hole underneath,so the water goes out as quick as it comes in"

Stepdads hurnia op got cancelled at 5pm.

He's got the bus there to be there for 12pm, apparently got gowned up and booked in at 2.

I went to theirs at 1pm and worked from theirs for the afternoon ready to pick him up afterwards. 

I went and fetched him anyway, he sounded cross. The op before had taken longer than anticipated and they ran out of time for him. Back into a queue...

Re the car show boars this is one of the reasons post COVID I'm doing only 3-4 a year & why as I've said elsewhere, I'm now taking the touring car just to wind this type up , their so clever they don't even realise their been made to look such a fool.

I build my cars for me,  for fun & not for their approval, they probably have some PCP blob or in the A8 owners case his is probably a clapped out chavtastic pos.

I've owned my T25 pickup for about three years now. Don't really have a lot of use for a pickup truck, but it's fun to have. Been 100% reliable, never let me down. 

This week I'm moving house and I have to move a few tonnes of firewood and loads of bits of massive furniture etc. T25 pickup has chosen this opportunity to shit it's water pump. THANKS M8!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly this. A few years ago on the blue forum I started a thread called ' You've ruined that!' just because of these idiots.

I was at a local autojumble and show, Thurton for anyone who is in the Norwich area, and went to talk to a bloke about his MK1 cortina, 2 litre pinto, type 9 box etc etc.

I said 'nice car,' he looked at me glumly and said 'they don't think so ' indicating a couple of blokes walking away.

Turns out they'd been berating him for modifying it!

I got pretty annoyed, and said ' well who did you build it for,?!'

When he said himself, I said so screw anyone else, it's your car to do what you like with.

I hope I left him a bit happier.

I'm not a concourse restoration bloke, that's not my bag, but I'm glad there are people out there who are rivet counters.

Alternatively there are a few cars out there that I don't like, but I can still appreciate the work that's gone into them, and I wouldn't dream of telling the owner/builder that they'd ruined it

My ancient PC finally shat the bed today.  Housemate helped me set up the laptop I bought off them recently and that's got me back online and able to do some damage control.  Trouble is, some items that were due to be backed up are currently locked away in the hard drive on the PC and I can't access them until the external hard drive adaptor thing arrives so I can transfer everything on to the laptop.  Bad timing really.  No warning with the failure either, looks like the graphics card has probably failed since the computer seems to boot up okay but it won't put anything out to monitors.  The monitors test fine hooked up to the laptop so at least it's not those.

This PC has been waiting for replacement for about four years, things just kept getting in the way, and then when I finally had the money I had to move house and the money went on that instead.  Was hoping to squeeze just one more year out of it but no, it's dead, Jim.

Get a second hand gfx card for pennies and swap it over? Takes 3-5 screws, 0-1 cables, 1 press on a tab, and 5 minutes of your time?  It’s literally plug and play, you can’t get it wrong.

Something like RX550 or such shouldn’t be more than 20£.

Does the motherboard not have a monitor output for basic VGA display type stuff? 

They might not these days. I've not been up to date on PCs for sometime...

Why are DHL such a PITA to deal with. Waiting on a parcel from them, tried to deliver on Tuesday, if they knocked they obviously didn’t do it very loudly. Asked them upon redelivery today to leave with a neighbour, according to my neighbour they didn’t even attempt this. So they’re going to try again tomorrow, why are they so painfully thick? I’ve no doubt tomorrow despite my strict instructions to leave it by the gate they’ll not do that either. 
 

Everyone else knocks Evri etc but at least you actually receive the parcel. I’d love to see what the aptitude test for a DHL driver is…

Apart from on here, I don’t get into discussing cars with people. They wouldn’t get what I was on about, they’d mistakenly assume I was interested in Teslas it’s just best talking about something else. 
 

Completely understand you with car shows, full of people who don’t have any social skills or self awareness.
