What is am nhs dentist? Haven't been able to register with one at all since Oct 2020...

I managed to get one but every visit I was needing so much work it couldn't get done fast enough.

So I'd have a checkup, require fillings, first of two appointments would be 6 months from then. I'd go to that and have them done but be told that as well as my second appointment works (in 6 months) I'd need MORE work afterwards.

They also insisted I got a filling in a rear tooth that's previously been filled 3 times and over half of it is missing. Regular ones fall out within days of getting them, apparently composite ones bond better but are £££.

I asked them to pull it and they refused.

Then COVID happened and that was that. Had an appointment in Nov, they said they'd phone me to arrange the next one but it'd be June time. Chased them in June and they pushed it back till January. At that point I just gave up - I can't afford the volume of works required anyway.

Just changed the oil on the C1 , 7k and it's black ,and the engine rattled like f@@@, so in went some Redex stuff on offer at 12 notes a 2l bottle , on offer from 18 notes !! , New filter and the engine is quiet .. normally the car has done some 3k a year but this year it got hit with 7k , so I think the 10k service is a bit stretched and it will be a 6k service in future !!!!

Why could they not have made me a more competitive offer in the first place?

Only started rattling since you started driving it. 😂

Not grumpy. Sad.

The miniature pony centre on Dartmoor is closing due to rising costs. Went there a few times when the boys were small.

It won't be the last.

And yet the number of people who give money to donkey sanctuaries in their wills far out weighs any other charities

I'd like to see your spreadsheet on that.

If you hate people it's the best way to piss them off when you die.

I think telling them that they will get nothing, which might make them incredibly angry and dysfunctional or might make them blossom into model citizens is one thing. Given that they will be mature grown up adults, and long before he's old he'll be able to tell if they are parasitic knobheads, or well rounded and successful in their own right, I'm guessing that he might not actually do that.

Mind you, if I was his child, I'd like to think that he would do something useful with his money whilst he can actually see the positive impact it might have.

Also, it's not strictly true that the kids have "Made their own way". I bet they went to the best schools, and had some fantastic childhood experiences, and mixed in the right circles.

Like any (decent) parent he will have tried to give them the best start in life.  Probably.

I’m a good few million behind Sting so apart from a collection of tools and a clapped out Focus I’ve not got a lot to leave them. I do hear a lot of people hope upon receiving a windfall when said relative carks it which doesn’t sit right with me. It’s no good living your life on the off chance you get left something, after all you’ve nothing to work for if it’s handed to you on a plate?

Today can get in the sea.  Nothing car related, but absolutely everything I've tried to do today has absolutely fought me.

Plus we now have the in-laws staying (they're looking after the house for us over the weekend), so I'm now trying to get everything organised while my thoughts are being continually drowned out by menial quiz shows at 83756583dB on the TV and the absolutely choking reek of cigarette smoke.  Neither of these factors are doing anything to improve my mood.

I'm about where I'd hoped to be about 1500 this afternoon, have a load of crap still to do but am rapidly running out of energy - and have a six plus hour drive tomorrow so need to not overdo it today.  Argh.

How inconsiderate, in a non-smoking household. Unless they've been given permission, of course.

Why are you letting them smoke in the house? Fuck that.

They're not - however absolutely *reek* of it.  Like to "I can smell it before they open the car door" levels.

They've been here for about three hours and I've already got a headache that's trying to turn into a migraine and my lungs feel like they've been through a cheese grater.

Spoke to my dad on the phone earlier and he told me that someone had side swiped his car in Tesco Car park and fucked off. Theres a big grey scuff right down both offside doors so he says. I'll get a look at it on Saturday night but it sounds like a bodyshop job.

Some people eh.

Worth speaking to Tesco, they will have CCTV plus probably ANPR on the car park to stop people overstaying. Whether they’ll release that to your car insurance on the other hand.

The successful* denture repair I did between Xmas and New Year has just failed. Not due to get my new set until next Monday, so will have to get the glue out again tomorrow.

A kitchen fitter, told me, that he reckoned, 50% of kitchens (where the home owner hasn't recently moved in) are paid for by an inheritance.

About 10 years ago somebody did that to my prelude. I parked in a space with nobody either side of me, went in to grab milk, came back out and some bastard had creased the car on the passenger side from the rear arch to the front arch and then immediately fucked off. Asked the store about CCTV footage and got the polite equivalent of ‘no, fuck off’.

I feel sorry for your dad, it’s gutting.

He's not a car person a such but whenever his car has been bumped before he's always really annoyed about it, understandably.

Its a decent car too, a 2017 Volvo V40 Crosscountry 2.0 diesel. Not like my old cars where you can just go on ebay and get 2 doors for £100 or so.  Thankfully they have a decent bodyshop just down the road who does smaller jobs like this. They made a good job of my mum's Corsa when a similar incident happened.

I'm still hoping that when I see it that the grey scuff is in fact paint transfer and I can cut it out with the DA.

If there's footage you have a legal right to a copy of any that may include you.

My BiL is like that.  Father was a partner at one of the big law firms, boarding schools, etc. etc.  Since becoming an adult been gifted sufficient cash and property to not have to work but it's left him (and them, wife's sister also hasn't worked in years) completely directionless and not very happy.  They've now put their own kids in boarding school (at grandfather's expense) and sit about doing nothing not even looking after their own kids.

It's sad, but they're also insufferable twats so I don't feel that bad.

I don’t think it’s very good for you to have nothing to work for, you just wouldn’t appreciate it. It’s a difficult concept to get your head round when the alarm goes off again at 6:30 but what drives you mad drives you on I guess.
