I think for most under bonnet jobs on a Mini, it's easier to remove the front end and sometimes the engine just to get access. On the plus side, that doesn't usually take as long as you might think!

Idiot neighbors again

Building has a no smoking policy, both indoors and on the general grounds. I don't know  who it is as there's about 3 main suspects to my mind and it's impossible to trace it, but late at night they are often smoking the most unpleasant substance known to man :(

I'm not convinced its "the green" but it smells like a very strong mix of cat piss and regular tobacco, maybe it is, not certain 🤷‍♂️

I don't really care what it is they're up to but I wish they'd just fuck off somewhere outside so that it doesn't interfere with anyone else.

There's someone that kept playing extremely loud music indoors (could be heard indoors 3 doors down!) But that's stopped recently since everyone clubbed together and asked them to stop, maybe it's the same person smoking this stuff now in retaliation

I wish people would just fuck off with their pleasures and enjoy them somewhere it doesn't interfere with anyone else

Rant over :(

From watching hoovies garage on you tube his recent Maserati smells of cat piss. Apparently it’s crystal meth. Other than that it’s Sauvignon blanc, but you can’t smoke that.

I don’t know why the housing association put up with tenants like this, should be three strikes and you are out.

Sadly I have neither the room nor equipment to do that. Bigger garage or a dolly on which to drop/crane to hoik out the engine and yes I would.

Fucking wisdom tooth has been growing sideways out of my gum for about a year with no issues but in the last week it seems its got infected so now i can’t open my mouth properly. And its eid so everywhere is shut all week.

AND it turns out my health insurance provider has just cut all the decent dentists from its network so it’s pay and reclaim FFS. This could be spendy. They’re cunts for repaying out of network expenses.

What’s worse is i’m in the middle of some practical dive training sessions and i think i’ll have to postpone at my cost once i’ve had the tooth removed while it heals.

Yesterday was the first time in 45 years I think ever seen my dad in tears. Apparently he'd been getting ready to go out fishing with my brother and his kids and had opened the gate to take his gear out to the car. His dog (a collie) suddenly started barking so he went out and saw a couple with a whippet walking in the lane. His dog does have a fairly poor track record with other dogs so he motioned at them to stop so he could get her in but they didn't and she went for their dog. No serious harm done, but a lot of fur flying.

Once the other dog owner had finishing kicking the shit out of my dad's dog (not unreasonably) he then went and started threatening my dad who, whilst not in any way frail is a smallish bloke in his mid-70s. According to my brother he was right up in his face, swearing at him, vowing that he was going to call the police and inform the council, that my dad's dog was going to be destroyed, and that this would cost thousands in compensation. I could put this down to him seeing red but my dad later received an phone call to that effect. My mum and dad's neighbour meanwhile was fanning the flames by inviting the dog owners wife in (who was hysterical) and telling her that my dad's dog is always doing this.

My dad is well aware that he is in the wrong and is perfectly willing to meet any reasonable expenses arising from it, but it the dog owners manner that really shook him.

Alternator was supposed to be with me by midday. It’s just coming up to 2pm and I have other errands which need running.

According to UPS it is still at the Southampton depot, but I bet my bottom dollar as soon as I go outside the brown delivery van leaves an out card for me.

I which the Focus would decide if its dead or not ..  or I will .

last week it did 140 miles , on theM6 , up and down hill , did not miss a beat ..

went out today and as soon as I put my foot down , the clutch slipped ????

all I did was park it up and use another car over the weekend  ..

has it got a monk on or somat ??  , is it fooked or is some hydraulic gremlin at work   :confused ?

anyway the snazzy new Napa battery is now swapped out with some generic 063 clone  , ready to replace the Halfrauds special in the C1 , which going by the date codes appears to be the oldest battery we own despite being the newest purchase .    it also has the lowest CCA and capacity .

Surrey. Hampshire. Fucking hell man, sort your roads out. I've seen Argentinian* runways smoother than the tarmac around some of your most affluent areas... no wonder the residents all drive Range Rooneys, I really did worry about breaking my car on some of the potholes and that's strong coming from a Sussex resident!

As a resident of Hampshire I agree entirely, although I think Berkshire, particularly Reading, are even worse. On a recent Cornwall trip however, the roads we travelled were wonderfully smooth and hole free!

I was passing through an affluent Sussex village, there were potholes aplenty and someone had gone and drawn a penis around every single one in marker paint 🤣

Thankfully, there are precisely zero interesting things in Berkshire, so there's absolutely no reason to drive through it other than to get out the other side to Oxfordshire.

Alternator arrived at 18:30ish, halfway through dinner. With ‘by midday’ sticker clearly visible. No apology from UPS driver on the delay.

Hopefully tomorrow madam can have her car back.

The roads around me are quite bad too, the council decided to resurface one of the best roads for some reason and leave the bad ones, they have only just resurfaced on of the worst roads in my area which has needed doing for years, it goes over the hills, and they think that patching potholes every year is better than to do it properly and the cobbles are smoother than the patch work they have done.

Nope, mostly A30, did Hayle, St Ives, Penzance, Lands End and Newquay on the way back. Just felt miles better than around here 🙂

Oxfordshire roads are absolutely piss poor. I had forgotten how bad they were until I visited my mate there the other week.

Another mate lives in Corby. Roads there are even worse, potholes everywhere. He reckons Northamptonshire County Council don't bother maintaining the roads in Corby because they can't be arsed, Corby is too shit.

Maybe the clutch isn't fully engaging intermittently, i.e possibly sticking somehow. Whether that's master cylinder, slave cylinder, pressure plate etc is a different matter, could be anything in the system

my first thought was a blocked vent hole on the shared brake  fluid container , but that would affect the brakes as well ???

did some research and it is not unknown for the CSC in the middle of the clutch to play up and jam , either way up its a new clutch thats not going to happen .

peddle travel is good and the initial bite point is in a good place ..

apart from the worn rear brakes , the cracked screen , the dodgy clutch , the cambelt roulette , the oil burning , the eml complaining about the cat , the cars ok ...

mot is up in June and I can offer any parts before its scrapped ...

It's a separate system, the clutch take off is before the brakes so an issue with the clutch may not strictly come hand in hand with brakes.

If it's biting ok sometimes then it definitely won't be the clutch disc itself so I'd concur it's an issue elsewhere, as you say probably within the clutch kit anyway

What year is it? If it's a 52 plate or older an EML won't affect the MOT, but if it's on for cat performance it would likely fail on emmissions anyway

I hope for you that it holds out until June!

Nipped round to the shop for milk. Coming home as I engaged 1st gear the clutch made a comedy noise, as I engaged second it made an even funnier noise, the clutch engaged, but the pedal stayed on the floor. How I fucking laughed...

Maybe if you called it by its name more often, it wouldn't get so grumpy?
