I'm never going to worry about driving a V8 and its impact on the environment again, just watched the grand tour, they're in China, they've pulled a graph up showing car production worldwide in 2017

Japan 8.35m

Germany 5.65m

India 3.95m

South Korea 3.74m

USA 3.03m

China 24.81m

I wonder what emissions controls they have

My 30w CFL bulb died this evening. Had this for must be at least 10yrs now. Nice and bright (once warmed up) and daylight colour was useful when doing electronics. One of those lighting technologies that didn't last that long (thankfully). I imagine many have been chucked out from people getting fed up waiting for them to warm up.

Sad times. d6e8e5c7a7a477b6131f6dfb18ab9cb3.jpg

I have one of those left. Bought c 1998 from southern electric. Expensive for the time but I suppose it’s lasted.

Deforestation contributes to global warming, forests soak up heat.

China though.

Someone far away murdered someone so I have impunity to commit a mild stabbing here.

Get ready to feel old because...

the first prototype C* FLs showed up in 1976 and then hit the market in 1980, thats almost 40 years ago now! (Fuck I feel old now...)

The All Mighty Philips SL lamp :)

Philips%20SL18.jpg

admittedly those where rather big and bulky (so not very compact) and somewhat expensive (when compared to normal bulbs) lamps, but they where bloody awesome solid reliable things rocking magnetic control gear

known as Jam jars on account of their weight and glass construction

but they lasted well :)

shown above is an early production, black base example, I have some later white base examples  (my oldest from 1989), but no black base ones sadly (really need to rectify that at some point)

(I remember getting my first SL lamp when I was about 8, got it off Amazon for a few quid, had mum bring the package straight to school when she came to pick me up, and I opened it there n then and ran around excitingly showing it to all the teachers, ahh good times :) )

admittedly, "affordable" CFLs only showed up in the late 90s to early 2000s and in that regard they only really had a "heyday" of about 15-10 years

Things are just a bit shit at this moment

Can't get a unit anywhere to start up my own thing, landlords are like a mafia that won't allow even partially affordable rent, council are sitting on units empty for decades, their solution? Build more and price them even more expensively then just demolish useable units rather than rent them out at an affordable price, Which in turn means private landlords don't need to compete and prices just keep going up.

https://www.eveningtelegraph.co.uk/fp/life-beyond-waterfront-dundee-council-effort-fill-vacant-commercial-properties-across-city/

Car wise... i have nothing on the road now, i can't do anything with either of the ones i have without space and can't sell them either. Cinquecento too specialist and my location means i just get folk from Liverpool offering a Mars Bar for it, so really i need to get it MOT ready to be able to have it in driveaway condition. Discovery as mentioned, rotten, can't find a genuine buyer, the few semi sensible offers i've had all timewasters who were clearly just testing the water to show up and offer about half what was agreed.

So basically i'm in limbo... Can't really get anything until the Discovery is gone (sitting on the road with no MOT, still taxed and insured so should be ok to be parked), can't get anywhere to store or work on anything to get either car gone, can't afford anything to progress life/career, despite being financially "ok" at the moment. All markets are just haywire and only getting worse.... just like housing market, even people financially comfortable easily priced out of getting on the bottom of the ladder in many areas.

And now Monday i need to attend a "course" i've already been on twice just so some pricks behind a desk can tick boxes.

The road network and scale of construction is staggering 86,000 miles of motorway since 1988 , theyre building 6000 miles a year through mountains and round them

That site is run by scammers...it's £2.50.I nearly got caught like that..........apparently, no-one seems able to shut it down. Go in via Gov.uk, and you'll get the correct site.

This again. £2.50 ought to be criminal but that’s what it actually is.

Cheers for that. I checked when I went round the in-laws earlier and gov.uk said £2.50.

Still not value for money, particularly going to a county i try to avoid due to psychotic ex

Is it a 2cv?

No, it’s something a bit more substantial.

More to the point, I can’t afford a 2cv at Australian prices.

$15,000 minimum for a rough tin snail? I don’t think so!

Fuck me. If I want something American and interesting according to ebay I had better be prepared to spend many thousands.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Thought you were done with buying ?????

I vote we ban cows from farting.

I demand a meaningful vote on this issue too!

Maybe I should get the kids to stay at home in protest?

I think we should let the cows decide, it's their world too.

I still have one, bought from Makro about 20 years ago to fit in a vivarium, used for 12 hours every day.  Replaced by not-long-lasting fluorescent tubes that cost as much now as that did then.

Still have a few CFCs, mostly Ikea ones but others free from British Gas for buying a Daewoo fridge freezer 16 years ago from Comet - got a £150 check from them and half a dozen CFCs every few months.

I wasn't even with British Gas.

I can testify to them lasting well. This one has been doing solid service in a back bedroom, now my wife’s office, since the mid 80s.

And global warming etc.
I recycle only if my ordinary grey bin is full and generally do fuck all about being green.
Why?

Because I live under the paraffin trail of EMA,
Anything I do is rendered a total waste of time by the Ryanair that circuits the airport constantly,
Never mind the ones that are actually going anywhere.

and that is why I dont believe in Global warming ,

if we are in such dire danger ,

things that cause damage should be banned  , not taxed

That's because we have people in charge who make allusions to caring about the climate and ecology but are really corporate shills who put the burden on individuals, and would happily set fire to the planet for their personal gain.

Thought I'd done quite well with the not buying. Apart from the Rover 45 and the Dolomite.

The i10 is up for sale though!

I can't see that post lasting long either. We're all equal but some are more equal comrade.

Don't you dickheads have a rape crisis line or anything to bully this morning? Please shut up for the sake of my sanity, this towbar won't fit itself and you aren't helping matters.

No - that way madness lies! And also lack of storage space.

I think you've confused 'care about' with 'believe in'. Just say you don't care about it.

Is it time for the AS virtual flat roof pub? Members allowed to make fools of themselves rolling round on the grass/ tarmac outside, provided they both shake hands and buy each other a drink afterwards?

Nope, but I'm glad I'm not fitting that towbar.
