FOUR AND A HALF HOURS?!?  In a Sierra Cosworth?  Did they stop for a long lunch at South Mimms?

:D

Bare in mind, I'm going on half remembered bullshit from 'Fast Car'.

Posted

This "advert" is not a one off, in fact if current trends continue then every driver in Bradford will be "covered" on the same trade policy by late 2018.

I guess that's what happens when you replace police with cameras, someone will find a way round the system that a copper would detect in 0.02seconds, YH AM ON MA UNCLES TRADE POLICY M9

Someone is going to get a nasty shock when one of those cars gets in an accident, it's actually possible to end up in prison for insuring a car which isn't in your care and control...

Must've had tea at Clackett Lane too. It's only something like 108 miles round. (117, I checked)

Yes probably, but I would bet that many of these policies are operated under fake details or via people on the inside.

I've never been asked to prove my identity to take out an insurance policy, they take your money and ask questions later.

So as a moneymaking scheme:

1. Buy trade insurance in fake name for £2000 or whatever

2. Charge as many people as you can £70 a month to go on the MID

3. If someone crashes and policy is cancelled, ditch burner phone and goto 1

4. Profit.

Good point. I'd assumed someone had the bright* idea of subletting their trade policy rather than outright fraud.

Only remotely hard bit to fudge would be the bank account paying for the insurance.

Posted

Without trying to sound too much like I'm running one of these scams myself, I would imagine it's paid upfront via prepaid debit card, or the account of someone daft enough to allow it for a small fee.

Someone should send that screenshot to Tradewise....

I'm happy for anyone to do so. I had a quick look on their website but they didn't have an obvious "report scammers here" link.

I'm pretty much at the end of my tether at the moment.

Can't remember what sunlight is, I leave for work when it's pitch black, come home and it's pitch black. If I'm not at work, I'm at college or doing college work. Regretting the course as it's dull as fuck and pretty much just hammered home that I've had no interest in IT since the late 90s. But hey, I'll never have the balls to change career so it's going to be a dull few decades 'til retirement. It's year 2 and I've sunk in 8k so got to keep going really.

On commuting, some twat manages to crash on the A1 seemingly every single day, if it has rained or is a bit cold or whatever you just know it's going to take an hour and a half plus to get to work. I travel 12 miles each way, BTW. An hour and a half minimum to get 12 miles.

The real issue is that my upstairs neighbour retired last May and I've never had a good sleep since. Up at any time from 4 AM, banging on moving furniture, doing DIY, playing the fucking harmonica one day. Spoken to him about it til I'm blue in the face but might as well just talk to yourself. It doesn't help that the other side have visitors often til 1AM who have absolutely no consideration for anyone - modded cars loud enough to wake the dead, slamming doors, shouting on.

My parents have offered for me to move back in with them, it's getting more tempting by the day.

To top it off, this POS laptop keeps playing up so it got chucked, now I've got a laptop with a smashed screen. Well done.

I'd thought of both of those ways but didn't want to add to your diy guide to insurance fraud...

I'd love to know how that guy can get your car on the MID instantly when every single insurance company takes 10-14 days.

Trade insurers tend to sort it in more like 2-3 days to be fair

If you’ve got trade insurance you can normally go into a portal supplied by the insurance company that puts its pretty much directly onto mid.

The cheapo one I had you had to email them. Which was a pain in the arse.

Ah, didn't really think of that.

Hopefully no one here is planning to start a criminal enterprise in the insurance fraud sector.

Anyone who does, my commission is just 5%, to be paid in bitcoin.

Why is it when you need to sell a car you can’t get anything like the money you want for it but when you want to buy a cheap one there’s fuck all out there?

While driving down to the central belt and back, I noticed an astounding number of people who:

1: Don't seem to use the cruise control on their very highly-specced moderns that surely must have cruise control

2: Don't understand how average speed cameras work.

For point 1 I was using my cruise control for almost the whole journey each way, and would overtake / get overtaken by the same cars several times every few miles.

For point 2, I would be cruising at an indicated 70 through sections of average speed cameras, while some utter flange would go stomping past at 90+ then stand on the brakes for every camera. That's not how average speed cameras work, mate.

Utterly mind-boggling. I guess it doesn't make me angry / grumpy, I just despair for those people instead.

Had that very same discussion with my son-in-law when we were up in Inverness.  We came to the conclusion, not unreasonably I thought, that the best thing to do was laugh at these people.

Posted

Aye, I was mostly just doing that.

One person in particular didn't make me laugh. You grey-haired middle-aged bint in the Merc E-class estate, you know who you are.

It's pretty shit driving to overtake a car that's on cruise control by going 2mph faster than it, pulling in front of them without indicating, then side-stepping the throttle to the point I had to swerve round her as she'd lost 10mph rather quickly (going uphill). I then stared across at her and shrugged, and she just sat there staring fixedly straight ahead, ignoring my very existence as I overtook her still doing the exact same speed I was doing when she overtook me about 5 seconds earlier.

I... I just don't get it. What's so difficult about hitting a button to set the cruise control and just leaving it alone?

My online one is nearly instant

I just ring my lot up to update the mid as I rarely have to add anything. Putting the 202 on I checked it when I hung the phone up and it was on so they do it instantly. Tradex who I used to be with years ago were the worst though, they charged 50p for a text to change details and still didn't bother updating it for weeks. The copper who pulled me up for no insurance said I should of billed them for my time wasted in the hope that they might sort themselves out.

Getting on the train. Why is it that as soon as the doors open, the person behind starts gently pushing you, even although you cant move until the people in front start to get on?

I wonder how likely it would be for that person to fall flat on their face if I let them push a little harder before I lunge forward out of the way :)

Tit in an A3 was stuck behind me this morning, I was stuck behind the council gritter. Ok, so it did seem a bit slow but then again the road was a bumpy, twisty, turny, narrow country lane and it was only just daylight.

So A3 had to pass me, then on his third attempt passed the gritter. Did I say the road was covered in ice, mostly the black sort? S/He'd obviously splashed on a new set of winter Contis, and just had to make use of them. No, he didn't crash, but by the end of the 3 mile section was about 400 yards ahead.
