The grumpy thread

Indeed. There's all this talk of 'crap threads' that rears its head roughly every few months. This place has ALWAYS has a 'rose tinted' view of the past, when it was apparently awesome. I wonder if you go back several hundred pages, whether you get as good a mix of content as above?

I have been on this forum for over a decade now and it still seems as good as it's ever been. I find it telling that of all the other forums that either fell by the wayside or I grew out of I still return to this place. It's the people that make a forum and I have met in person a whole ton of awesome people via this place so long may it continue!

I was in the queue at the co-op yesterday. I overheard a conversation and I DID NOT agree with what they were saying.

Aaaaagh fuck them, fuck the co-op, I'm never going back there again. I may stand outside for a bit ranting though

Its sure healthier than some other forums I know that are dying a slow death!

Long may AS continue.

I may have been guilty of posting a "what should I buy?" thread a short while ago - I wanted to pick the AS Collective's brain about what to expect from the V8 and TD5 Discovery 2 engines before shelling out my hard-earned dosh. I didn't put it in "Stupid questions" because I'm not convinced everyone reads that thread regularly (I certainly don't).

But in one regard, isn't that what this place is all about? Getting advice from like-minded people about motoring issues?

The content thing is a bit annoying when you put a bit of effort in to write up a few jobs and it drops off the page straight away, but it's not the end of the world. There are some really good threads that could be missed just by the title if you start being too selective. The "how much shite is too much" is a prime example of this. By the title you would think it was the usual stuff about how many Rover 75's you can fit on a driveway but if you read it you will find it is very far from it. I won't spoil it by giving the game away but it did surprise me. Although I am always asking myself why I bother doing threads about my old French crap, but I will probably keep doing it if just to remind myself what I did to them before punting them off to a new home.

Could maybe the threads be listed in order of most read or most likes, rather than most replied to?

Will vouch for that! The Rover 416 needed industrial levels of washing to remove the Edmonton detritus from all flat surfaces once home. Some serious contamination there! London pigeons must have stomachs (crops?) like nothing else on earth. Maybe they eat road tar and gravel.....

Oh jeepers. Have you considered giving it a rest? I think your point was made several pages ago.

Yeah but I've only just found that meme after two days of hunting my hard drive and didn't want to waste it.

I'd like to put myself up for being a knob annoying myself again.

I don't drive my 950 enough. Took it out today and after a bit of jumping (just cold as opposed to no fuel or something) it drove very well. Thought it was pulling to the right but it wasn't.

I need to drive it more!!

Sodding thing is in danger of being neglected. There's patches of rust (small but big enough) on the arches at the back and now a couple at the front.

I think I suffer the same as a few others on here in that while I have space to store cars I don't have e the room to actually work on them. Like none of my garages let either door open wide nor does the driveway. Don't think I'll be getting a giant shed any time soon...

^ This is very true.

I love shite old cars. However, it's not easy to devote as much time to them as I'd like to, because work & other life stuff takes up much of my time.

Also, lack of guaranteed access to indoor spannering space combined with cold, wet weather can mean that months go by without me being able to generate interesting spannering stories. Especially around this time of year... I find that it's easier to apply the jump leads to my shite mojo when the days start getting warmer & longer.

I bet that rings true for a lot of people in here.

Same here.

I usually hang my spanners up this time of year as I'm not a fan of getting cold and wet laying outside under cars.

I've now got a garage but that's full of Capri parts at the moment so totally unusable.

Once the weather warms up and drys up in about April I start doing stuff again.

Well said m8

"lack of guaranteed access to indoor spannering space combined with cold, wet weather can mean that months go by without me being able to generate interesting spannering stories. Especially around this time of year..."

.... sadly, for me, lack of controllable screen demist fan in this Icy weather had me lying in the footwell - in the street, freezing, between downpours :(

Mojo uplift achieved tho... :)

Argh. I have done a sad because of Dave not feeling the AS love any more.

On that note, I won't be round too often, either - not at least until next year.

Got a lot happening outside the forum which I need to sort out. Nowt personal; I'll still be logged in a fair bit, but not doing/saying a hell of a lot.

HALLELUJAH!!

I have a rant about this every few months but lately my annoyance has been replaced by antipathy. I'm just losing the will to care about this place anymore. The sheer volume of worthless threads is overwhelming. Whether it be the 'what should I buy' threads or the single statement threads (I'm getting a bit tired of/have too many/not enough old cars) or the threads with just a link to something or the threads which are a question (eg; why is my car making this noise/why isn't my car making this noise), this place is now full of people who just like to hear/see their own voices/words. Try fucking off these non-threads into the threads that were designed for them (News24, stupid question, etc,) or even better, just try fucking off and take your self importance with you.

Awww, are we a Mr Grumpycat today?

I feel the same. Must be the grade A shit weather here.

Besides, I found five fucking pages of stupid pub style sub bag Range Rover slagging marginally more entertaining* after I had bought one.

Now we're getting this kind of horseshit when someone merely opens a thread to announce his intention.

So 10% of the top 30 threads - not bad Mr V.

You would definitely make a couple of appearances on the Now that's what I call Shite albums.

Do I get a trophy, or is my reward the uncomfortable realisation that I'm doing something popular for the first time in my life?

I'd hesitate to say that anything done on a niche forum in a beige corner of the internet could be called "popular"

Unless you mean "popular" in the way of Fiestas/escorts back in the day :)

My fears are slightly assuaged.  Thanking you.
