The grumpy thread

In his earlier lives he was a Royal Greenjacket, and then a prison officer, possibly IOW; somewhere in the south anyway.  Might you have known (or known of) him from those days at all?

Builder still pissing about and I am still stuck in hospital.

I will see my arse ( and a solicitor) this week...

Extremely grumpy yday as missed out on a Rover Streetshite for £200. Dealer advertised it as a PX spesh on eBay, spotted it at work, couldn't ring because at work, so dropped a message to say I'm gonna come over Saturday morning (train ride away). Got up yday, checked to see if listing live - gone. Oh well, fair enough, someone else got lucky, good for them....

What really pissed me off, however, was seeing exactly the same car pop up on Gumtree yesterday evening for £600..... (although cunning photos were presented with the reg numbers slightly out of shot, and obviously taken at the dealer's home address, mileage now including the exact number of miles from the dealership to this person's home address)

Perhaps they realised the error of their ways, but a 300% markup is a bit steep....

Thing is, it's still a good price for a 11 month MoT, 67K mileage car, so do I just suck it up, do we think ?

Nope, because you'll always be thinking about how He made 400 out of you...

Unless you go in hard, telling him how you know he only paid 200 for it,so you'll offer him 300

Depends how much you want a shiterover I guess

I need to stop thinking about my builder. I'm raging.

"I didn't see it leaking when I was there"

Well, I'm *telling* you it's leaking, the floorboards are wet, the plaster is wet and there are brown stains on the ceiling below.

F*cking ARGH!

You could go in with total honesty - say you missed out on this for £200, and see what he'll take? It's quite a strong bargaining position - but then he did get lucky and it's everyone's right in live to make a few quid out of being in the right place at the right time. Personally I wouldn't hesitate to buy a complete bargain and then mark it up to what I think I can get for it.

He's clearly already hacked off with you, and he's probably telling all his builder mates that you're a proper moaner and he keeps having to go back out blah blah blah. There's forums dedicated to builders whinging about customers - sometimes for good reasons, sometimes not.

Just Trading Standards his ass. He already don't want to fix it so you're not ruining your chances now.

Don't get me wrong, I don't begrudge the seller making a few quid to drive it a few miles closer to Nottingham for me (it's now in a village only accessible by bus), but 300% ? Greedy...

However, there has just been an unexpected development - it's now been reduced to £450 ono !!!

I love it when sellers self-haggle. I think I might be on a journey soon - if I can get it for 350-400 sovs we should both come out all right at t'other end, and I won't feel quite as indignant....

Maybe the seller is on here, and knows you're onto him....lol

Greedy, or maximising profit? Outside of AS (where I've sold stuff cheap just for the ease of transaction) I'd always try to get as much as possible into my gin and biscuits fund.

The drop to £450 is promising though.

FFS. My FiL's car insurance is due for renewal (he drives the ex-SiC Scenic)

Letter from a certain red phone insurance company says "thank you for insuring your car with us for the past 18 years"

The quote? £650 - three times what LV quote him.

Rewarding your loyalty.

I'm off to see the specials and Toots in Leeds but have been struck down with a bug. Feel feckin awful. Currently sat in Courtyard trying (unsuccessfully) to drink my way through it.

You lucky sod, that'll be absolutely mega (concert, not sickness)

Yeah I'm calming now, been out and forgot about it for a bit.

Got another builder to come and look he says we aren't being unreasonable so that's put my mind at rest a bit.

Warm olive oil should do the trick as long as the ear is not infected.

I tried this for a good 3 weeks the last time my ear was blocked to no avail. Had to go to the clinic and have somebody blast it full of water, a few days later my hearing gradually returned.

My grump today is some concert tickets I ordered have been posted to my previous address, naturally they were sent out the day before I contacted the supplier to tell them I'd moved. My old address was deemed too unsafe to deliver to so that means my mail will be at the local sorting office which is 200 miles away from my current abode.

I love getting my ears blasted, it's such a nice feeling! Shame I have to lie to get an appointment..

"have you tried ear drops for 7 days? "

Yes...

" olive oil? "

Yes

Plus other questions.

Main grump is I've just been into the loft to get George down for shitefest plus some other bits and I'm sweating my bollox off now! It's quite warm up there

Fucking ear!

Last night I felt it wanting to block up, so I went to try and wash it out and made it worse, now my right ear is blocked up. Didn't use cotton buds, just water.

Chemist reckons it'll be a few days, probably a week before its cleaned out.

Hydrogen peroxide works well but is a bit dramatic - tip picked up from Leonard Cohen who's mother used it on him.

Must be catching because I've got faceache/earache/headache today, but I think mine may be related to a possible abscess the size of a small country under one of my top molars.

Got some time off work soon, so will book meself into the nearest NHS shite dentist and no doubt get shafted royally for loads of treatment I don't remotely need.

First world problems and all that, but I'm sat here watching Mrs timolloyds Bini not sell for the umpteenth time. Think I'm asking well below asking price for similar examples, it's a convertible, it's hot outside again...no interest.

Had that money allocated for some serious chod splurging. Looks like that isn't happening now.

In terms of ear drops, I never look past the sodium bicarb ones...

You're selling privately and most of these bini punters will want a dealer that can sign them up to some dodge finance deal, even if the screen price is £2k higher.

The amount of tyres I've seen with the screw head ground nearly off just screw it in flush and put the wheel on the back...

Driving along today in the pickup truck, busy highway with no shoulder and all of a sudden there's a deceleration. Look at the gauges, all are at zero. Screen reads SERVICE AIR BAG.

Knock it into N, judge the oncoming car/semi truck coming the other way and decided to dive across oncoming traffic into the only safe space around.

Put it in P, twist the key. All lights go off upon twisting the key. Fan blows just fine.

Check battery terminals, those are fine, pop the cover off the fuse box. Eyeball the descriptions, pull a couple fuses, all of which are fine. Decide to start swapping relays. After a few minutes the engine is running again, without the parking lights circuit operational.

Drive to the auto parts shop, now soaked in sweat because it's 34C out and the engine bay of the truck is like a furnace and there's no shade.

That's not really the grump.

The relay I needed, some pissant little thing was $27.

What the hell. I have to think what the dealership price for one is...

FUCK!!!!!

Those bastards need charging with murder.  In fact, get them a daytrip to Barrow.  Justice will apply.

Edit: over-reaction?  Maybe, but I really really hate bullies, and anyone who tries to defend or minimise the shit they perpetrate.

I had pisstaking as an apprentice - sent to the stores for a long weight and myself and my fellow apprentice chucked into a Grundon bin etc.

But that was harmless enough, and both Mark and I ripped the piss back.

I trust the service manager at the Audi place will be getting the bullet soon.

I am NOT prone to Daily Mail outbursts but that cunt in charge wants locking up too.

Duty of care?

You saw that shit happen and shrugged it off?

I have not been able to tolerate bullying since I was at primary school.   Leave people the fuck alone.

Fuckers! Just taking it too far .

A garage local to me got dragged over the coals because the mechanics cable tied the apprentice to a chair and put him up on the 4 poster during dinner . Obviously a stupid thing to do but the lad struggled and tried to get down and fell off the ramp and cracked his skull !

I've been on the receiving end of plenty of workshop banter and practical jokes when I was an apprentice and I firmly believe it's character building but some people don't know when to stop
