The grumpy thread

My Allegro is being collected by its new owner tomorrow. Just taken the sheets off it in the garage and shed a tear. I've owned it since 2008 and spent thousands restoring it. Long hours at work and family commitments mean I never get to play with it and even if it was MOTd and on the road I'd never get to drive it. The lack of time I get to play with old cars has really got me down over the years so I've thrown in the towel and sold the lot. Apart from an EX BT ldv Pilot I'll be shiteless. Of course I have no time to work on the pilot so that will probably get cubed in 12 months or so.

Mrs Lankytim doesn't work as we have young Lanklets and has also gone back to Uni to follow her dream of counselling, she becomes fully qualified this year. The job of funding everything falls on my shoulders so I'm always at work. Initially I was told that she'd be able to get a 30k or 40k a year job but she now only wants to work a couple of days a week so this has been downgraded to £100 or so a week. I was planning on cutting down my hours so I could enjoy my hobbies of shite and hopefully go to Uni myself to qualify in something useful but those plans have been postponed indefinitely.

Kinda annoyed about the whole thing but there we go. I work and everyone else "follows their dreams"

Yeah, feel for you Tim. Your scenario sounds all to familiar.

Except this time. Screw it, I've dropped out for a while and I'm retraining for a new and completely different career path. Screw it, it's upset so many and I've never been so mentally scarred by the backlash but I'm seeing it through.

Also Shiteless too, hence my total lack of posts of recent times. You all wouldn't want to hear about a fairly shambolic but cheap Alfa 147 diesel.

I have some crap skin on my leg which some cream has been treating.

You have my sympathies Jon.  I've been fighting shit like this for 40 years.  There doesn't seem to be such a thing as an easy answer, or even an answer at all, sadly.  Not a lot of help, sorry.

Tangoed mk3 panda is getting a back axle from a 500 - they're the same item apart from a slightly different offset - which shouldn't bother the panda on skinny steel wheels.  Picking it up from wakefield tomorrow and driving it to cleethorpes garage, collecting mum and back home again.  Could do without that the day before collecting the Y10 - I shall rope her into dog sitting duties though so I don't have an hours walk to get the train on Saturday.

Oh and I took out the money to pay for the part and the Y10 cashback and think I'm skint, had an automated call from the bank which was ignored, let's see how many DD's get bounced then....

The crap leg skin I can cope with. The resulting reaction rendering my bollocks analogous to Deadpool's face is not something I want to repeat ever again.

I have always held the NHS in high regard but in Cambridgeshire, they're hopeless. Thanks, local drop in centre, but I was already taking antihistimines for the swelling.

Some, erm, parts nearby have swelled and are burning as a a result. Like bastards.

I've had to knock cars on the head for the past few years too and haven't bothered with a boring thread about a scruffy 1.3 Fiesta that seems to refuse to die. Can't say I've really missed it to be honest.

Old cars kill A LOT of time and money and in the end you often don't have much to show for it. When you're doing the married with kids thing there's always something more urgent to spend money on or someone to spend time with so any sort of time you spend spannering or spending money on your old crock can make you feel guilty, which sucks all the enjoyment out of old motors I think.

I've had an offer of a donor section so hopefully that will mean it won't take too long to fix.

I was driving down the dual carrigeway this morning and a deer ran out from the central reservation it was spooked by a lorry travelling in the other directon and in a panic it charged out in front of me....

The damage is mostly confined to the top of the drivers side wing, but it has also damaged / bent the suspension which I causing some very unatural camber, but having had a quick look I've not immediately been able to spot the cause.

The Mrs and I are going to a concert tonight that neither of us wants to go to, purely because she doesn't want to waste the money I spent on the tickets.

Surely, if neither of us want to go, the money is already wasted and there's nothing we can do about it. We'd just be adding insult to injury by wasting time, effort and £20 in pez on top of the £40 tickets.

Nope. she still insists we go. FFS

Hey there, indignant cyclists,

Instead of mouthing off saying I didn't leave you enough room on a narrow country road, how about you ride single file for ten fucking seconds rather than three abreast?

You all saw me coming I slowed right down. I left you room to move into file, but no, you ignored me - all of you did. You were all too important to deviate an inch from what you were doing. Riding single file for ten seconds or less would have seen me past without any issue. But no.

With the road narrowing, I backed off in the end and sat behind you, and you moaned about that as well. Hey - you know that bit where the road was wider than a hippo's clunge? You know, that bit where I gave you ample opportunity to file down for ten seconds of your precious, delicate time and you ignored me? Yeah, that.

What else did you want me to do? Loved the passive aggressive little wanker gestures you all managed when the carriageway went into double lanes and NSL. Had I waited any longer you'd have probably taken up both lanes and slowed the traffic to a crawl.

So, in summary, fuck you. I did all I could to give you room and your pig-headed attitudes made things ten times harder than they needed to be.

I try - I really fucking try to give cyclists a wide berth on the roads; you lycra clad twats ruin it for the rest of the cyclists who realise road safety's a mutual effort and not a 'FUCK OFF THIS IS MY ROAD FUCK YOU WELL I'M SAVING THE PLANET ME ME ME ME' type affair.

Amen to that. I used to turn the clag on in the xantia for moments like that!

Could you not rent one for a week and swap the braking system?

If you can rent a 10 year old ST then sign me up. It might accidentally get stolen in the night though

I think it was about that (not seen the receipt) but it was all the fitting and other shit that came with it.

End of the day it's mainly Mrs shrimps car. She wanted it fixed and although doesn't as such want to pay she's the kind of person that if it needs it its having it.

Router 10mm off the underside of the new top where the pipes are, a circular saw works as a router by running it sideways, worktop drift yo.

/\ basically the rigid pipe is set 10mm too low for where the hob connection will now sit in the 40mm worktop , mate reckons with a bit of "manipulation" it'll be reet

I had a 70s one and they are truly and utterly shite, never have I ever driven on so many empty roads - well at least in front, the poor feckers behind were in hell. I sold the pile of shite as I could no longer accept the damage I was inflicting on fellow humans.

Have you got an easy to access shut off valve in line? - adding one of those would gain you the 10mm you need and a bit more.

Be sensible and check for leaks when you're done, soapy water bubbles when the gas is leaking.

There were loads on the roads on good Friday, I think I overtook a record number - in the 2cv!
