The grumpy thread

Another grump, light mist this morning, excellent visibility and I've got dicks flashing their lights as mine are turned off. FFS if you can't see me you really shouldn't be driving

I'm with them on this one. To be honest, especially as DRLs get more widespread and my Honda is black, I tend to light up whenever the weather is anything but sunny. Grey cars are almost bloody invisible in mist.

Really?

I may have to test this out.

Let us know the results!

My grump is that I did not get the job in Newcastle. Booooo!

Oh well, on the positive side, the future of the 316 is secured for a while, and the Civic Aerodeck project shall continue!

Another grump, a good friend of mine who can never seem to get a break is now at risk in the next round of redundancies at his job. Yes, he's in oil.

Yup. Except then you get the main beam of DEATH because they think you've done something wrong.

Then they get the hazard flashers/middle finger of FUKUPAL, as appropriate.

I use cruise control 'cos I am a  lazy bastard, if held up a quick press of 'resume' and it's back to speed, so much easier than all that tedious pressing the throttle nonsense :)

Also discovered (reading the handbook is quite enlightening!) that the turbo is restricted/not used until the engine is up to temp which is why some days it feels a bit flat after the one serious chicane on a steep hill. I really should:

A, read the fucking handbook sooner than a year after purchase...

B, use the bastard car more so it actually warms up!

Lights: my car has 'automatic lights' and they come on if the brightness outside drops below the need for sunshades and factor 50 sun-block! They are a bit 'keen' but, again saves the need for all the strenuous turning of a light control if it actually gets dark/dim :)

Does the car not come with a butler for all that tedious physical exertion?

My missus is watching some old dross on the telly where rich, clever conmen make gullible buffoons believe they can speak to the dead.

Can't fecking stand the x factor either.

Looks like the buyer for the flat in Edinburgh has fallen through. Been waiting for him to sign the missives letter, which he hasn't done.

Bugger

Posted

Well some arsehole must have either hacked us or got some of our details from a website we used.

Received a few emails this last week.

Couple from a London hotel annoyed at us for not turning up for a reservation made via Laterooms, nope know bugger all about it, LR have my correct name address telephone number and email address but fortunately not the right credit card last 4 digits, all sorted out now, feel sorry for the hotel, they'll be receiving a call from some poor innocent sod whose credit card is getting a £200 sting.

Then more emails from Uswitch who are flipping us onto Sainsbury's energy that we didn't ask for, again uswitch have all the right details, thats all sorted too.

Have a funny feeling i'm going to end up changing me main email address, thats going to fun*

I reckon it's about time I took my main email address around the back of the barn.

Had it a fair few years now, and the amount of dodgy spam it's getting has been on the increase lately. I mean spam that's getting past the filters and into the inbox.

The CPS have decided not to prosecute the thieving traveller scum who scammed me out of nearly 2 grand. The mealy mouthed, tree hugging, liberal bastards.

Posted

Can you appeal the decision? It might be complete bollocks but I read somewhere that they're so stretched lately that they're turning down loads of stuff that they think is borderline doable and only really sticking with dead certs. They're relying on people appealing to pick the cases where people are a bit more motivated so there's a better chance that usual that they'd reconsider.

They are stretched- like all other public services. Thanks to this wonderful government.

Sadly the public are not bothered until it affects them directly.

I was having the same problem with spam on my main address, piling in and apparently BT's filter is next to useless

So I had a look at the addresses it was coming from, nearly all addresses ending in .nl or addresses which start with a random number.

So I created a couple of rules to drop any email without notifying the sender if the address began with a number or ended in .nl

Down to almost zero spam again.

WRT the above, I had this proper crazy idea the other day where people and companies are taxed a little bit more, so that public services had enough money to properly care for people, enough money to educate the kids properly and enough money to keep crime down. I'd happily pay another few % more tax if it meant that my country was "nice" to people. I'm by no means rich nor am I a mega lefty liberal tree hugger, but why does it all come down to the bottom line nowadays? what have we become?

If people were treat better, they would be happier, better educated, earn more money, pay more in taxes and generally be healthier and commit less crime. This would then mean you wouldn't need to spend as much money on benefits/NHS and the criminal justice system and things would balance out.

As we are in 15 years we'll have a generation of thick, angry, fucked up and unhealthy people entering an already poisoned job market where the demand for manual grunt work is plummeting because robots will be able to do it all, and what kind of maniac pays and angry idiot to do a job that a robot will do a better job of for free? They'll be unemployable. and the state will have to continue paying to feed, house and water these people for most of their life.

What a fucking.shit.day Monday has been...

First drop off this morning was fine, easy drop off, sign off, even got dropped off to the station. Then into Tamworth I go to pick up my next car, a Mazda 3. Now usually it's a case of; inspect car, note any damage/fuel/mileage, get signed off, off ya go.

Nope, it was; works tablet falls out of pocket onto ground and smashes the digitizer screen, so outside screen is fine, internal show screen is fine but there is a big bloody smash on digitizer.

Can't get on with inspection so gotta call office, office advise me to use my own phone and download inspection software, but...phone isn't interested in working on mobile data, I switch mobile data on and it carries as if nothing has happened. Mess about with settings, still nowt. Great.

Phone up office again, gotta go to office. SatNav has decided not be a SatNav anymore, it wants to be an inanimate object devoid of any use.

Get lost on way to office as it's not area of Brum I'm familiar with. Scream and shout all sorts if obscenities whilst trying to get to office. New swear words were created I think.

Get to office, apologise for carelessness, get new tablet (I know I'm gonna be charged for the old one, thats all I need) go home because I wouldn't be able to make drop off.

Stop off at Cash Generator and CEX on way home to see if they have any cheapie SatNavs, nope, all are £50/£60+ and I don't have that kind of dough spare. On way home, traffic seems to be dawdling, try to take shirt cut only to have dawdlers fly by because; traffic lights system. Can't beat 'em so I'll join 'em.

At home I find out a sim card hasn't been supplied with my new tablet. Great.

This day and all its shittyness can FUCK OFF.

That is a shitty day but I can't help but smirk when I think about what the garage / car hire place is thinking .

Silly twat came to collect a car then couldn't pick it up cos he dropped his tablet then fucked off to get a new one and didn't come back 😀

That is exactly the car  It's off to Ely by Ipswich tomorrow. Nice car, got sold to Ely garage for around £2500 or around that mark.

Are you trade plating Lord Sterling?

I am indeed. Just switched company as the old place was doing my nut in with being away from home for days on end and hotel bills.

Who said I didn't take the car? Who said I couldn't come back? I did take the car anyway which they were happy for me too without a signature from them. All they were concered about was whether the garage whom has bought the vehicle had actually paid for the it, which they had, eventually.

In a slight turn of events, I actually successfully updated my other SatNav which had a file corrupted during a previous attempted update, but I'm a little more out of pocket. Also, a sim card is waiting for me at office, so all should be back to normal, if a little out of pocket because SatNav and broken tablet.

There is only a couple of car dealers left here now. I wonder where it is going.

£2500 is a bit much for the cheapies and probably too cheap for the Kia dealer.

Anyway......

it's an 08 with just short of 80000 on the clock, a great lacquer killer handprint on the wing from my daughter (no idea what toxic substance was on her hands that day), standard OEM Mazda alloy wheel corrosion, 6 months mot and a mix of dealer, local garage and self signed by me history in the less popular saloon variant so I can't see it making £2500 personally. We only paid £4000 five years ago with 45000 on the clock in mint condition. We got £1800 trade in which I thought was top money for it.

Criteria Cars, Littleport.

It's actually already advertised;http://www.criteriacars.co.uk/mazda-mazda3-3-takara-6107825

looks a lot better than when we had it. I wonder if they have noticed/ fixed the utterly fooked CD player as if they have I would like my cds back (but wasn't going to pay the £150 Mazda wanted to sort it). I think it may well sit a while, we got it for 4K as I made a stupid offer after it had sat six months with no interest and then waited another couple of weeks before the garage finally gave up the will to live/ sell the doom blue shitbox. Did it still pull badly to the left or had they sorted that?

Driving to High Wycombe this morning (from Reading) was the absolute pits. I have never had such an ordeal of a journey. To make matters worse I had to park in the Eden Centre for over 8 hours too, meaning I was charged £20 for the privilege*.

Also, being kicked out at the end of the week, despite me arranging housing for the mid-end of November. Nothing like moving to remind you of all the crap you have.

Drives and pulls fine, no left pullage so must be sorted. Still got the suncream handprint which I had to note down, alloys are shedding thier paint, interior hasn't been hoovered or valeted but it appears to have had a quick wash and tyre shine slapped on so quite a presentable and likeable little car.

No CDs found in player but I haven't tried putting any CDs in, will look tomorrow.
