Couple of screenshots here from a late 80s documentary about the Ffestiniog Railway - there are two cars I'm struggling to identify...

The ones I'm unsure about are the yellow coupe (I think it might be a VW Passat or Scirocco) and the dark blue estate on the left - I initially thought either an Allegro or VW Variant, but now I am thinking Renault 12.

Coincidentally, a 12 saloon goes past a few frames further on!

Yup, yellow 5 door hatch is facelift Passat B1 and the estate is a VW 412.

A missing 18 year old has been found after 57 years when the car she and her boyfriend were in drove into a lake an hour north of me he got out she didn't. This summer the car was found with her in it but what car is it? I'm pretty sure it's American and maybe a Plymouth or Dodge?

And I think you're right. It's a 1959 Oldsmobile, possibly an 88 like the ones in the pictures bellow?

From a credible source, a photo have now emerged of what is supposed to be this car taken in the 1960s before the accident. And it's a 1959 Oldsmobile 88.

No photo, because there can't be one, but wondering if anyone has got an opinion about a little puzzle.

I've just started reading Dangerous in Love, Leslie Thomas (1987), which is part of the Dangerous Davies series of comic detective capers.  In the book, Davies's car is named as a 'Vauxhall Vanguard', which is a model I've not heard of.  The internet hasn't heard of it either, suggesting that the car is purely fictional.  Why that should be, however, is a mystery.  It can't be to avoid copyright, given that Vauxhall were and are a real entity.  It also wouldn't seem to be in pursuit of Brechtian alienation, as the book is straightforward realism with a humorous bent.

The Vauxhall Vanguard is described, too, as being a bulbous sort of 1950s car with typical 50s features and very little performance.  Perhaps they, author and publishers, just got it wrong and confused Vauxhall for Standard.  Or perhaps the Vauxhall Vanguard really was an obscure model.  Anyone know?

I had no idea WTF this was as I was snapping it going past.

It's a Subaru Leone Coupe and appears to have come all the way from Sweden to visit Radwood. I remember the saloons and estates but don't think I've ever seen a coupe before. Were they sold here?

I thought that I remembered them but that would have been the Standard Vanguard.

Wonky memory.

Great spot! Yes they were, I remember one in our village but we did have a Subaru dealer (ex-BL/ARG) and I think it belonged to one of the owners.

From my John Powell archive:

1988 Subaru 1.8 4wd Turbo Coupe, E192 LAD (2005)

Blimey, that brings back memories, read them all BITD. Yup either a Standard Vanguard, or possibly a Vanguard model of a 50s Vauxhall was in his (dirty) mind

Thanks to you and @myglaren!  I'd have thought nothing about the matter if the 'Vauxhall Vanguard' was a one-off mention in the book, but thought to question as the damn things virtually a character in itself.  It's there as part of Davies's fifties-man persona - sure you remember that from reading.

I've got Tropic of Ruislip on the shelf somewhere, and possibly some others, but generally more of a Tom Sharpe girl.  Got most of his, one way or another.

Dangerous in Love came free off one of those book-swap shelves.  I always have a look and take anything pre-nineties that's hanging about.  Surprising what turns up!

Not saying that's what's in the picture but I can lay claim to having had a lift in an RO80 from a mate - he called it The PowerSledge - we just called it terrifying

My first thought was NSU Prinz, but it looks like the 'boot' surround curves up to meet the wings, like the Volvo P1800.

The yellow sign on the front of the coffee & cream decker is to denote vidamat a metal box on the panel behind driver under the stairs that you dropped your change in ( exact fare) & it printed it out on your ticket.

The photo must be from the change over period from the old cream with navy blue stripe ( Sheffield council) to the coffee & cream SYT ( South Yorkshire Transport )livery in the second half of the 70's.

Would that be related to a 50s Consul? That’s what it reminds me of.

That was my first reaction but the grill doesn't match any that I can find on-line.  Local version perhaps?
