Interesting.  Just had a poke around and can confirm this is a thing.  Previous/next and the numbered buttons work, as does the last page button.  The first page button though just reloads the current one.  That's an odd one.

I've been having this issue as well, however in my experience the (mobile) back button doesn't work, the "PREV" button doesn't work, the "<<" button doesn't work, inputting the page number doesn't work... the only way to return to page 1 is to edit the URL or click the Autoshite logo (or the "Autoshite" back arrow just below it) and then click on the subforum again.

Its a bug in the forum software (I mentioned it above). There is a fix waiting to be applied but I've held off for a week or two. As things have settled down to being fairly stable and I don't want to cause too much disruption again just yet. If it's a problem that's really bugging people, I can apply it. Just will take the forum down for an hour or so while it's done.

Search function is driving me potty, it just doesn't find threads I know exist. Home made pick-ups today.

Don't want anyone to think I'm having a dig, just reporting what doesn't work correctly

Yeah it's restricted to a year at the moment. That's because I turned off the bigger search service that used to run but didn't behave nicely with the other services.

If I extend this current service to more than a year or two then the searches take a long time (tens of seconds). Problem is that a search engine (like Google/bing/etc) will find the link on this site and try indexing them. If enough queries at once (which it does) then it overwhelms the server.

I intend to bring up the original search service but I wanted a period of stability before changing things around again and risking instability. Too much instability in a short time gets infuriating for users.

@bunglebus I've found that googling what I can remember of the thread title often works a treat. I see you found the home-made pickups, but maybe worth a try in the future. Works for other sites too.

That's definitely worked for me too

Not sure if it's my connection being glitchy (as I was messing about with our local network earlier today), but the forum feels to be being quite laggy on opening threads this afternoon.  Opening this one to post this for example involved a solid five seconds pause before it opened.

Ditto this, the forum has been feeling like its running on 3 for a while (from about the time I posted about the Mazda blue tube in my thread funnily enough)

It's slow for me too. I also have a big problem with the read threads coming up as unread it is very annoying.

I'm guessing it's from everyone holding F5 on all the current threads going on.....

Couple of new tyres should sort it 😉...

Crikey it’s slower than a Talbot Express towing a Hummer tonight!

Yep, slow recently and slow as treacle this evening. 10 - 30 seconds to load a page.

My offline message from a moment ago:

I know you're all on here trying to avoid EuroVision, but the sheer amount of users on here is making the server struggling to keep up.
In the last few months we've gone from ~400 users to over ~600 at peak times.
I'm currently upping the server specification right now. Its going to cost more, but I don't think there is a choice right now as its so slow, its almost unusable.
Longer term I'm going to have to find a different hosting provider as the current one is pretty pricey at these levels.

Sorry for the sudden take-down.

I'm off back out to finish tidying the garage! Hopefully things will be a bit better, even if I need to sort out a cheaper long term solution.
I.e. shop around for a better value hosting provider that is able to take up the increased load the site is now under. There are a few options out there - chief favourite is Hetzner that was recommended by a good mate who also hosts a busy forum.

Thanks for the effort. If Talbot wants to do a funding run again I’ll bung some in to help running.

I thought it was just me, but I have a gigabit connection so was slightly wondering.

Should be considering the extra cost! 😅

The next tier option up is double the amount of CPU cores and RAM. Unfortunately that is also double the amount of compute cost.

Previously was looking at around €78 pcm but now that extra cost will bring it to €110 pcm. That cost is split between compute/storage/backups. Roughly 40%/40%/20% but now will be 60%/30%/10%.
Really not ideal - hence why I need to investigate a better solution.

Coming to summer so more people posting, admins/mods/etc have been getting through the user approval list and I guess possibly good threads that have been referred from other places/found in Google searches?

All good things and contribute to the health of the forum. Most users are lurker but that's completely normal on any web based social platform.

Do you think forums in general are starting to pick up more traffic again or is it just this place not following trends? When I had a look around RR a while back it seemed a shadow of it's former self from a decade previous. Lots of other car forums have gone down the pan as interests seem to have shifted to antisocial media.

This place, in contrast seems as busy as ever.

UKSaabs used to be a very social forum, like this place with many meets etc. Then it died. Then it started to tick over as a technical resource. Recently it has become busier than ever with our three highest users online figures all being this year. This place is unusual as the social side seems to have survived and is growing, but the surviving technical forums seem to be having a resurgence, probably because it is impossible to find anything on facebook, including manners!
