I wonder what the top speed of that is uphill into the wind? 2.0 pinto auto, with 'mobile library' cab...

45mph?

Definitely well into the “fucking woeful” category. Probably not as slow as our old Luton bodied Mk1 Transit that had a Perkins 4-pot in it. That regularly saw us dropping down into 2nd for anything more than a gentle gradient; but I doubt it would be bothering many speed cameras.

Is the HG really 'preventative maintenance' @Yoss

on those they pretty much are.  They are a known weak spot yet an easy change

Yes I raised an eyebrow at that too! I have known HGF on them, though never had any trouble myself. But you certainly wouldn't change one if you didn't have to. For a start there's no guarantee on the quality of aftermarket gaskets (and I very much doubt they used a genuine Škoda one). Still, it looks decent enough for a grand.

The fact they are easy to change is all the more reason not to do it unless you actually have to. That's the way I see it anyway.

I guess maybe the worry about the head warp if it does go. .Mine had a HG and skim at 17,000 miles so if it went and overheated again it might not survive another head skim. That said I haven't changed it !

No, this is the "compact" which is the shortest of the three versions of the Citan.

Designed to carry AAA  batteries , tic tacs and m6 nuts .
