More on this car here: http://autoshite.com/topic/33660-1980-talbot-solara-16-gls/ and here: http://autoshite.com/topic/25384-talbot-solara-gls/ Good points: *Very rare - only roadworthy 1.6 GLS left in the UK according to howmanyleft and 1 of about a dozen Solara's remaining. *Lots of new parts: plugs, leads, cap, rotor arm, fuel pump, fuel filter, etc. *Oil & filter change done last week. *MOT'd until August 2019 so can be driven. *Nice reg with original raised rivet number plates. *Complete and original apart from exhaust. *Comes with some paperwork, old booklets, and many keys. *Starts every time and goes really well if you want it to. Bad points: *Running issue: intermittent spluttering at low revs/light throttle and sometimes stalls when coming to a stop as the revs can drop below idle, still not sure what is causing this. *Tatty appearance all over with rust, mismatched paint and filler in places but completely solid underneath, a real survivor car. *Passenger controls for electric front window does not work, but ones on the driver's side do. Also, passenger rear door doesn't open, handle seems to be stuck. *Lets in water somewhere at the front, luckily this collects on the shelf below the glovebox after a heavy downpour so doesn't get to soak the carpets or anything. *Has an aftermarket backbox so might be loud to some although I quite like the sound. Didn't really want to sell this but at least one of my cars has to go due to a lack of space/money and this isn't being used much now because of the running issue. I would like £1000 but if you want to make me an offer, feel free and I'll consider it. I'll most likely be listing it elsewhere so might sell at any time. PM me for any questions/offers.   3. Okay so I looked at the slow running/idle jets again today and also the 2 emulsion tubes in the carb to make sure they were properly clear using carb cleaner and then blowing them through. I put it back together and went for a run in it afterwards but it's still spluttering unfortunately. I've spoken to a knowledgeable Talbot enthusiast who owns a Solara which is ironically suffering from the exact same issue at the moment and he is also unsure as to what to try next. My parents don't share the same love for it as I do and are sick of seeing it stuck on the driveway so I'm probably going to put it up for sale to see if anyone wants to take this on, I'll put up a separate for sale post.

Did an oil change on her the other day, bloody freezing outside but I booked the day off work and it needed one... hoping to look at the carb again soon and fingers crossed it's just the case of the jets/tubes being blocked up causing the splutteriness. One thing I thought was odd is the drain bolt which is unlike other cars I've had, hex shape cutout (inside a cicle) instead of it being the head, so it involved buying some specific hex bit sockets.
  6. Yeah it did look a bit tatty but I really liked it, must be interesting to drive with the tuned engine, sounded quite fruity albeit not running right as it was backfiring, even saw a flame! The interior looked alright, went with the rest of the car, I did take a picture of it:
  7. It was one of the last lots, I bid 750 even though I had no space for it and it went for 800... Probably a bargain given the rarity and mods, dateless reg etc. Most of the stuff went for way over their value as usual in this auction.

  9. Thanks, there's someone I know who would be happy to look at it so I may well do that. It's a combination of a couple of things really, somehow I've ended up with 3 cars so now haven't got the space, also funds are a bit short so one of them needs to go. Out of the 3, this is the one I would like to keep most so hopefully I'll be able to hang on to it. I'm having second thoughts already so will probably withdraw the post shortly!
  10. Also, I may have to put this up for sale soon as I've got 3 cars and nowhere to put them! It's not nice seeing this sat outside either as the rust is only going to get worse until I get around to tidying it up which won't be until the Summer. If anyone's interested, please send me a PM.
  11. Also changed the leads for a new set before doing this but that didn't help. I still doubt it's the coil as it starts every time providing the battery has juice in it. Not sure if I trust myself taking the carb to bits yet

  18. Yeah, I bet it's the carb. Just from previous cars I've owned, pretty much every one with a carb, had carb issues of some form...
  19. Just a small update. I've changed the spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor arm so far but this hasn't helped - the spluttering/stalling suggests it could be the coil as the leads look fine to me but I'll order new parts of both anyway and hopefully that will sort it out. In the meantime though, I've bought another car as I needed something to get me to work and back and didn't want to use the Talbot whilst it's poorly.

  21. Cheers for the ideas, much appreciated. I have a new pump on its way which I'll fit that to see if it makes any difference as it looks like the original one on there at the moment, was only £15 so worth a try! The rockers are still quiet but it does pop and backfire a bit on overrun. The fuel hoses all seemed okay but I'll check them over again, same goes for the electricals. Will also see if I can get the AFR checked, luckily I know of a local mechanic who said he is happy to have a look at it. It's running on a Weber carb which I understand is fairly new.
  22. Thank you, some helpful tips there, will definitely refer back to it. I have a couple of ideas as to what might be causing the hesitation and stalling at idle... I've read that it might be vapor locking given it was only happening when it warmed up, but I took it out last night and it started doing it when fairly cold as well so that kind of rules that one out. I'm thinking along the lines of maybe the carb being too lean or a weak fuel pump perhaps? I might have a play around with it in the next few days.
